Thx! I've only left the house a couple times for groceries, and food a couple times. But I'm planning on groceries only from now on, once every other week or so.

Also, distancing when dealing w a couple workers (one window replacement person and one lawn aeration guy). Both are dealing w billing online, so no paper exchange.

.

One of my "cousins" in a another state tested positive, and I've heard he is on the tail end of it. He just got back from a big trip to Europe (Scotland, Ireland, England, Germany, Budapest, and Prague).

One of my best friends is a murse at University of Michigan Hospitals, and 2 of his coworkers tested positive. He's doing fine now, but is freaked out about the next month+ and how overwhelmed they will be.

.

What about you, Vizzerdrix?

Earthquakes here. Fortunately only minor damage and no injuries. Easily recoverable.

One of my relatives is an elementary school teacher who deals with a lot of refugee children and children of multi-national families. It was required that they get tested as they were showing some but not all of the symptoms. So we were quarantined in place for a time, but fortunately, the tests came back negative.

Who would have thought that asthma or allergies or possible bronchitis or possible pneumonia would be a preferable condition? In any case, they are feeling mostly better, so we will see how it goes from here!

I joke with my family that we are, "Shaken, but not stirred, haha!" ^^

Everyone take appropriate precautions, stay safe, stay healthy!

hey y'all ... (ping)

Somebody either smart or random took a look at the census data around the time of the US Civil War, and discovered probably an extra 125k people died from that war.  The approach was amature but accurate.  Then it got vettted by the grumpiest bunch of old people.  It worked.  The argument won.

Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico and officially almost no one died.  Which was known b.s. from the start.  NYTimes did a quick study and got roughly 1000 dead.  I forget did a study and got 3000.  And a PSU demographer did a peer reviewed paper, getting a number around 4000.  Real good stuff (except the dead part).

The death toll of Covid-19 isn't being represented by the official stats all that well.  When the locals get overwhelmed, they just lose count.  I found this writeup of Italian and Spanish sources ; neither of which I could otherwise read, write or verify. ( The site itself is left-of-center ... but I already led with arch-conservatives.)   So :

Physicist do not make good Demographers, and vice versa.  Still it's a start and very much less wrong.

I don't expect good numbers for 3+ years.
Be safe everybody.  Viva le C.O.!!
