Introduce Yourself / So, uh, hi again.
« on: May 14, 2018, 02:33:38 AM »
So, uh. It me. After... *checks* 5 years.
... My life imploded, and then I had some serious anxiety about coming back when it felt like I had left so many things in a flux with how I disappeared.
But... Here I is, for those who remember me.

Thank you very much guys. I think I have a pretty ample list now.
I think my favorite is going to be helping other people meditate / concentrate by playing Alestorm. (Seriously, 'Pirate Metal'?... What?  :thumb)

Would a statement from Oslecamo saying something like "pure metal can make metal bows because it's awesome, so there." suffice as a D&D example?

... As the person who is effectively the writer / developer in this instance, yes, it actually would.

FWIW:
Can you make a bow out of pure metal?
Hmm, sure, why not? Fire Emblem has Iron/Steel/Silver bows after all.
That settles that (finally).

Can Athanasia craft pure metal weapons (specifically, a bow of some sort) for the party for cheap, or would we need to pay full price?
I don't like limiting peoples pre-game crafting, since that just motivates them to stop everything and do their crafting as soon as the game starts anyway. However, when it comes to crafting for other party members, I tend to be recalcitrant about it unless the characters knew one another previously.

So, getting it at crafter's price would depend on that.

Those work because real world physics. However pretty much all area effects in D&D work by magic, that doesn't give a single shit about real world physics. However one day mundanes discovered real world physics don't work on them very well, like a guy that charged 1000 feet having the same extra cinetic energy as the guy that charged 10 feet. And guys with training in blades and war cuting down stars if they got a sun burn. And thus the mob/unit template was developed to allow groups of tiny men to take area effects head on and somebody surviving.
:lmao
I wish I could upvote that.

The mob would still be affected by hard terrain, however they also would just throw their comrade's bodies into the cracks to fill them and walk over.
Agreed, that's what the grots and squigs are for.
(seriously, this is reminding me of how the mobs in a Waaagh! work)

- but I doubt I'd be able to find any sources supporting their existence in ancient Greece.

I'd settle for D&D examples.

As a archery hobbyist, yes, some modern bows have metallic cord in the string, but these are with very modern alloys, and are pretty synthetic bows overall. What we can do with modern tech is not applicable here.

You can now craft Pure Metal items (any metal weapons if you have the ranks in Weaponsmithing, any metal armor if you have the ranks in Armorsmithing, all metal options if you have ranks in the two skills).

Bows aren't metal.

Unless you can cite otherwise.

dragonforce through the fire and flames
I can't believe I forgot Dragonforce.

Rammstein - Ich tu dir weh (These guys are known for their pyro (at live shows))
Yeah, I'm also using Engel as one of my "Pull them out of Frenzy" songs.

Dethklok- Awaken (MustaKrakish)
Slipknot - New Abortion
Static-X - I'm With Stupid
Nirvana - Tourette's
I liked the show when I watched it, but I don't really like Dethklock much due to the Nathan's lack of melody. These other three I actually listen to.
(Actually, the fist time I worked a Shotgun Suicide as an EMT, and the more experienced Medics wouldn't leave me alone about "Are you handling this okay?", failing to understand that I grew up with that stuff, I just started answering by singing Nirvana. I got through two albums because they just wouldn't stop asking and take a hint.)

"You'll have to forgive me if I save my actual magics for situations that demand them"

With that, Arthur let out a line of electricity towards the grouping of bandits that Maurice zipped past the lightning then bursting into a sphere that encompassed the whole group.

What happens if a mob fails a save against the insanity induced by Pseudonatural Creature?

Mosh pit!

Am I correct to assume that Pure Metal arrows can't be fired from magical bows?
I would say that the bow just wouldn't grant any magical bonus, counting as mundane. But ask Osle.

Hmmm. You familiar with Blind Guardian, Demons & Wizards or Cryonic Temple?

I have now listened to two songs apiece. Re-listening to Eternal Flames Of Metal.

Right, I've got some Iron Maiden, Manowar, Turisas, and BOC (just 'Reaper', which segues into Hymn Of The Immortal Warriors when he uses his resurrection ability). Also, the soundtrack to the movie Heavy Metal.

I need more, and I'd like to know more modern stuff.

Also, I'm looking for some that go with some of his abilities.
A collection of 5-second guitar riffs for when he's putting on his 'Pyro show' (any enemies caught in said show are purely coincidental).
Something to play to pull someone out of what is basically Frenzied Berserker Frenzy. (IM: When The Wild Wind Blows is one, but I'd like to have a range of options for effects I'll use often.)

Basically, to put his abilities this way:
Inspire Confidence
DFI
Inspire Competence (Which is much more useful in this case, but still, boosting out of combat abilities)
Pyro show (basically, a 'Lesser Orb of Fire'... possibly several. Not much damage, but passable)
Rez.

Except the Rez, I'd like multiple tracks for each thing.

Okay, since we are Off-Topic as heck here, I can ask my question and not feel guilty  :D

Basically, I think certain people here in this group might be the ones who have the knowledge I need over here.

(I have no clue where else to put this, I need help with song selection.)
I am making a bard-like character for a game.
(Not D&D, but: he plays music, and things get easier for other people to do; he's a social master in a non-social game; he can work other, basic magics, but less than what the actual mage can do. Bard.)

I want him to be fluffed very heavily as a metal-head (or other very hard rock, I don't get too hung up on genre classifications). Yes, the game world is basically near to modern earth.

I don't know anywhere near enough metal, in part because I only like the stuff that is still melodic. Turisas and Manowar comes to mind.
Because so much of metal lacks melody, I don't listen to much, and that means I don't even know much of the stuff that still does have melody. Heck, Turisas I only know because of Questionable Content.

So, I need the help of others on these boards on finding good music for this guy to play.

Yeah, and Bulky.
And you can't have a haversack.

Of course, if you buy a sack and throw the whole Athenian temple in it, I might even start to notice.
Otherwise, IGNF's.

I've got 28,000ish remaining. I could use suggestions also.

You also have no ammo for that bow of yours except that single arrow.
You have stat increasing items that could be improved upon.
Various defensive item properties exist. Surviving is always a good investment of money.

@Fire
I'll just leave this here for you.

@ RD
Your main problem with spending money is that you haven't yet gotten any more of the Pure Metal items beyond your base equipment. Vials of Powder and Shackles have already been mentioned.
Again, Mythril Powder removes enchantments, and Stheno is immortal.

I also mentioned other, useful, mundane items are out there.
I'll just leave this here for you to get some inspiration.
I mean, just because you don't need the Anitoxin + Auran Mask ("special wet cloth"), doesn't mean you can't buy some and hand it out before the Hydra.
