The helmet gave resistance, but with a swift jerk Matsu managed to remove the artifact from her head. There is a sizzle of flesh and a smell of burning hair, but Magana seems to be mostly intact. However, the whites have her eyes have turned pitch black, and the runny tar is dripping from her eyes.

Magana is shaken for 1 minute. The eye corruption will fade with time, but may last a few days... and something else more subtle.

"My god... I have seen the artifact reject others, but nothing like that. That was... much more violent. Are you still with us woman?"

Magana slowly noticed reality returning to normal. Mo...fo.... she said (as she (weakly) reached out for the helmet). (she remains shaken)

From the ceiling of the chamber, having clambered off upon their entrance and unable to discern any useful details about the device, the spider shook its head as much as it was able, "The experimental method is not proposed for magical items of unknown provenence."

"That was a foolish idea woman. Obey me next time." Drossel critiqued harshly, taking back the crown. That fool, it may be too dangerous to wear the helmet now. The thing was still active, angry, it would take time to cool. The rat stood staring strangely at it as if concentrating on something, with no visible effect.

But it wouldn't matter now. They were out of time. The scouts were more effective than he imagined. There was the sound of squeaking alarm, and a scraping noise and the rumble of moving rock against rock. And hundreds and hundreds of small tapping noises...

"They're coming! At your ready!"

Above the spider escaped to higher ground. The ceiling in this room was quite high, but it could reach a closer "roof" (30 ft high) in the form of the rafters. It wasn't along here, because here where the suspended cages lay were dozens and dozens of rats equipped with makeshift javelins, and a few near where the cage chains were suspended, possibly to try and loosen and drop cages. They didn't seem too pleased with the spider's approach, but their aggression seemed limited to grimaces and jittery clicking noises.

You have 1 round before the forces breach through the traps and door to prepare. A map will be provided by tomorrow so you can place yourselves.

Roll for initiative.

Matsu says "I have a telepathic network over which we can speak, and I can use my powers to aid allies. You three may join if you wish." And then the spider, the toothy-girl, and the rat-leader all feel a tingling in their head, kind of like a psychic hand knocking on the door to their minds.

"I assume Axejack wants to be enlarged again. Would anyone else like to become larger for the upcoming battle? If so, join the network."

The door creeks and shudders with the sound of bodies slamming against its locked wooden frame, the surface visibly buckling under the pressure and a few dozen fingers worming through the cracks! Positions everyone!

With a loud bang, the lock gives way and the door flies open. A wave of severed dog-sized hands come flowing out, and awash within the mass was the bloody and tattered frame of the scissorman.

The party is ready, Magana especially! The fight begins!

Magana charges in, trident in hand, but finds that her future meal might be a bit more tough and gamey than expected. The trident hits hardened calloused skin, and carved off a bloodless wound. MISS

(it wasn't undead, was it?) He's using Unwilling Participant as a move action (expending psi focus). DC 17 Will save to resist, or it becomes part of his collective.

Sadly you do remember that the scissorman is undead (the snake-arms weren't, but no telling if these new gian hand companions are mindless or not... they at least appear alive).

You can recant, since you'd know this.

It's worse than snake arms...

Let's hope these things don't grab you and transport you back to the start of the dungeon.

Good news though, they're not mindless nor immune to mind effecting. But will they fail? Somehow... it didn't, it's primitive but present mind shrugging off the unusual psychological waves. Well... crap.

Drosselmeyer will try and help! "Dread fiends, begone! Pjiby-egkpq-ukto!" His voice rumbled like thunder, exploding overhead the packed together swarm of monsters. It didn't look very powerful, but in an upset it seems to have been enough to knock the scissorman on its ass. Minor damage, scissorman is prone.

You know, Drosselmeyer is entirely too close. He's gonna do the shuffle back a bit. And just in time as the hands spill forth and great number, focusing on Magana in front of them and some even some climbing over one another to reach Axejack. Orange provokes from Magana in the process. Other hands go for the next closest target, Drosselmeyer, but are forced to double move to catch up with the escaping rodent. How fortunate for the spider and the psion to be out of their range.

The scissorman is forced to get up and move forward slowly, breathing heavily even though it is clearly dead. What was it, oh right... the scissorman had been cutting the hands off women.

Well, there was only one lady here. One lady currently being swarmed by hands. Looks like it's miss, hit, miss, miss. And miss vs Axejack. Still, Magenta hand does 2 damage and probably grapples you.

The slow terminator walk did nothing to ease the nerves, and as it approached Magana felt a dread chill in the air. It may not be able to reach you, but it can terrify you. If it succeeds on its intimidation (likely, he can't fail) you will be rendered clumsy. At least it's not frightened.

Lasers rained from above! Direct hit! The scissorman tanked through it well though, it looks like it could probably take a lot of firepower. Keep it up!

"Screeeee!" cried the rats above. They were waiting for this, and broke into an attack in great number with their makeshift bows, slings, and javelins. The quality of their weapons, the size of their muscles, and their lack of training did no favors, but the unthreatening swarm had numbers on their side, whose volleys equated, effectively, to a mass debuff. In this case, they decide to debuff all the enemy attack rolls by -2 through a harassing spray of suppressive fire for this round!

Axejack, jack them up!

The critters having done the favor of coming to him, Axejack had little need to do more than swing at the 'Orange' hand-lookin' crawly thing. Swing a lot.

The hand shaped aberrant beast leapt for Axejack's face, only to be met with two axes swinging like a pair of scissors which cleaved the creature in twain, dark purple viscera splattering across your chest. Disgusting, but orange has been slain!
