I'm considering a bladesinger in AL play soon.

If piercing damage resistance/immunity is a common thing, would I be better off choosing scimitar as my weapon of choice? I could still key off of dexterity, but I'd be trading 1d8 damage for 1d6.

Is it worth it?

Almost everything that resists piercing damage also resists slashing damage.  Treants are the only creatures I can think of that resist piercing damage but not slashing.

It doesn't hurt to have a secondary weapon.  A scimitar is only 25g.

Unfortunately, the bladesinger archetype only grants proficiency in one type of weapon. So it's rapier or scimitar.

Blade singer has to be elf or half elf in AL, doesn't it?
Do you do get other weapon proficiencies.

Go rapier then.  It's a fringe case to worry about.

High elf gets short sword, so picking scimitar gives you a slashing weapon and a piercing weapon.
