Background

Cyrus was a rather typical child growing up under atypical circumstances.  As a Xeph, he wasn't looked upon with any particular affection by his peers or any of the other closed minds he encountered.  He knew, in fact, that the only reason he wasn't being hassled by the watch was because the power inside of him was still dormant.  Manifester, Psionicist, Mutant, Freak, and many other words were all synonymous, so for his part he tried his best to make sure that those particular aspects of his nature remained buried.

Not having many friends, Cyrus made a hobby out of exploring what was, perhaps, the safest place worth exploring: the sewers.  He would duck and weave around obstacles as he ran through the pipes underground, totally heedless of warnings and forbiddance for the general citizenry to enter.  Indeed, there were a few pretty vicious rats in the sewers, but they were ultimately just rats, and Cyrus made sport of hunting them.

It was all pretty tame until he caught wind of something strange that the rat catchers found in the sewer.  He wasn't able to pick up any details, but apparently the watch was all over it.  Cyrus decided that he would go and check it out himself.  He knew which access points the guards were covering, and figured they probably wouldn't cover the ones underground.  After crawling through the sewers a while, he eventually found something.  It looked like a small section of the sewer had caved in and opened up a tunnel.

Ducking into the tunnel, he cautiously started exploring this new area.  He wasn't sure what was down this way, it looked like nobody even knew it existed before the collapse.  Eventually he got into a small opening, at one side of which was a strange, glowing crystal formation.  He had a strange sensation running through him standing near the crystals, like a tingling starting in his hands and running through his body.  Almost as though in a trance, he inched his way towards the crystal.  The glow of the crystal intensified slightly but steadily as he approached.  Eventually he finally made contact, and the tingling sensation turned into a burning one.

The next thing Cyrus remembered was waking up in a heap on the ground.  His head felt heavy and his brain felt like it was on fire.  Blood was splattered all over his face, and a drying stream had run down the side of his head while he was unconscious.  He then heard the voice for the first time: "Hey, are you awake now?  It's about time you woke up!  I think someone's coming.  With any luck they'll be able to help."  Cyrus's first thought was it was probably the watch coming, not anyone friendly.  He wasn't supposed to be here, and did his best to hide himself in an out-of-the-way crevice.  Without the glowing crystal, they probably wouldn't spot him in there.

It was only after escaping from that situation that Cyrus realized that he was communicating with a voice in his head.  Perplexed by his situation, he decided to head up towards the water supply so he could get some clean water to wash his face with.  He couldn't go around the surface with blood all over his face.  That's when he noticed it for the first time: a fragment of the crystal had embedded itself in his head, like a shining third eye right in the middle of his forehead.  "Yes, that's me." the voice in his head responded to Cyrus's reaction.[/i]

For a while Cyrus was able to get around using a cloak to cover his forehead.  In addition to a strange gem sticking out of his forehead, Cyrus's psionic abilities had fully awakened.  He would hide both as much as he could, but eventually these changes become known to the watch, and he was forced to hide out in the sewers and sneak around town whenever on the surface, avoiding the watch, earning him the moniker of the "Three-Eyed Rat" among the guard and the rat catchers.  Despite his best efforts, being caught and exiled was inevitable.

   Enthrall (Ex): If a puppeteer is in physical contact with a person it has charmed (the puppeteer establishes a physical hold by means of slender infiltrating tendrils), the subject acts as if dominated. (Puppeteers often seek to charm victims first and then “ask” to be picked up.) So long as the puppeteer remains in contact with the victim, the domination remains in effect, even if a check would normally indicate that the effect is broken.

   Hide Mind (Su): A puppeteer cannot be identified as psionic by divination spells or clairsentience powers.

Tetch is a small purple looking sluglike creature only a few inches long, and that is how he likes it.  He learned early in his career how to link minds with others and enhance their healing and combat capabilities.  This helped him to choose to "ascend" into the form of a puppeteer, all the better to infiltrate the city-states.  Specializing in stealth and subterfuge as well as healing, he performed well in this role.

Tetch is softspoken, preferring to hide is presence from those he doesn't trust instead speaking through whomever/whatever he is currently controlling.  However, he is very protective of those he trusts, doing everything he can to help keep them alive.

Tash - Kalashtar Outlaw

History:

In a world where psychic ability is feared and hated, one of the worst situations in which you might find yourself is born into a race of beings that naturally develop and emit psychic energy. Tash was born a kalashtar, and thus found himself in this difficult and not-so-envious position. Born outside the city, as his parents had been exiled long before his conception, he was raised in the harsh and intolerable world outside of the safety of the "gates of civilization." Raised strong and honorable by proud parents, he still watched as his family struggled against difficulties imposed on them by those who feared them. As a child, he blamed his race, and cursed the people he was born a part of, that caused his family to suffer. But as he grew, his opinion became more centered around the unfairness of banishment based on the insecurity of people who didn't have his glorious power; in short time, he came to dearly hate those beyond the walls, those untouched by psychic energy. He joined a resistance movement against the cities that heped integrate the exiled into their new world, but also plotted the breaking open of the cities. Tash hasn't personally decided whether he wants to ever be a part of the city, but he knows that beyond anything else, he wants them to know his world. He strives to break the walls and enter, unwelcome and smiling, into their sheltered place.

Tash is actually a nickname he adopted to save his more pacifistic parents shame, as he sees acting against their wishes as disrespectful as their son. Instead, he left behind the name out of respect and love for them, and adopted the general suffix often attached to male kalashtar's names, -tash. He has three friends who share this character, utilizing the names Khad, Harath, and Melk; they have gained a sort of infamy among their organization as the "four swords" for their gang's past antics. They don't often work together, trying to spread themselves out and recruit like-minded individuals to the cause.

Tash has a very developed sense of honor and respect, and makes a conscious effort to insult and test the people he meets, exiled or no. He has an especially taunting interest in any who became exiled from the cities after living there, considering them less unfortunate than those who have never known the protection behind a cities gates.

But despite this roguish quality, he despises bullies and would not go so far as to be cruel to someone. At least, not someone who has suffered exile; regardless of his feelings for their personal loss or their personal toughness as a naturally exiled "hard-born" or a recently exiled "soft-born," he thinks of all exiled as one family, and does what he does to strengthen them and their bonds.
