The Priest of Legacies [prestige]

THE PRIEST OF LEGACIES

That light I just made was formed from the same magical energy that slayed gods in forgotten times. You would be wise to fear it.
-Rilo the Pious, a Priest of Legacies

The Priest of Legacies is a powerful example of what one can do with access to multiple kinds of magic. They can combine divine magic and divine remnant magic in creative ways to outsmart or overpower their foes. Since remnant magic is relatively unknown to the masses and most of the magical community, those who take this prestige class often leave their enemies astonished at what they are able to produce with what seems to be nothing more than ordinary divine magic.

BECOMING A PRIEST OF LEGACIES
Priests of Legacies consist mostly of Clerics that also dabble in the ways of the Divine Shard. Occasionally, Paladins and Rangers that appreciate the magical aspects of their class more than most will become Priests of Legacies as well. Druids rarely take levels in this prestige class, sacrificing a part of their close connection with nature in exchange for raw magical potential.

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: The Priest of Legacies gains no new proficiency with any weapons or armor.

Casting: At each level except 2nd, 5th, and 8th, the Priest of Legacies gains new spells per day an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if she had also gained a level in a divine spellcasting class to which she belonged before adding the prestige class level. She also gains more RP per round, more Remnant slots, and an increase in caster level (and RP per day, if applicable) as if she had also gained a level in a divine remnant casting class to which she belonged before adding the prestige class level, except at levels 3, 6, and 9. She does not, however, gain any other beneļ¬t a character of either of those classes would have gained. If she had more than one divine spellcasting class or more than one divine remnant casting class before becoming a Priest of Legacies, she must decide to which classes to add each level (as applicable) for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster levels, spells known, RP/turn, and RP/day.

Pray for Change: At 1st level, the Priest of Legacies gains the ability to use her Prayer class feature in a new way. By initiating a prayer, she is able to choose one spell that she has prepared in a divine spellcasting class and substitute it for another prepared spell of the same level. This new spell must be from her spell list, but it does not necessarily have to be one that she prepared. She is treated as though she had prepared the new spell for all purposes.

At level 1, she may only affect spell slots of up to 1st level with this ability. At class level 3 and every 2 levels afterward, she learns to affect spell slots of up to one level higher than she could before, to a maximum of 5th level spells at class level 9.

Complementary Casting: At 2nd level, the Priest of Legacies learns to combine spells and remnants in new ways. Whenever she casts a spell followed by one or more remnants of the same school in a single turn, those remnants gain +1 to their effective CL. If she instead casts a spell after remnants of the same school in the same turn, the spell gains +1 to its effective CL.

At 6th level, this bonus applies to the DC of the spell or remnants in addition to CL.

Pray for Power: At level 10, the Priest of Legacies perfects her art of using Prayer to influence spell magic rather than remnant magic. She may initiate a prayer action and expend 2 uses of her Prayer ability rather than one. If she does so, she may restore one of the spell slots that she had previously spent the same day. The spell that she had cast refills the spell slot, allowing her to cast it again the same day. The spell to be restored cannot exceed the maximum level of spell that her Pray for Change ability can affect (5th at level 10).

PRIESTS OF LEGACIES IN THE WORLD
It is useful to build a wall, but it is far more useful to build two walls, the second using the rubble left over from building the first.
-Laran, a Cleric
Daily Life: Priests of Legacies are more respected than their arcane counterparts. Their devotion to their magic and their deities lend them a certain level of prestige among the masses, though often less than a Cleric of their level would receive. They spend a lot of their time praying and explaining the virtues of their craft, though few care to listen.
Notables: Berilon the Mighty was a powerful warlord Priest of Legacies. His tolerant reign and modest empire made him nearly invisible to common history, but in his time he was among the most feared of divine spellcasters. Very few knew at the time that he practiced the ways of remnant magic as well; perhaps this was why he was known for his uncanny versatility in battle.
Organizations: Priests of Legacies rarely join remnant magic organizations, preferring to remain with their more dignified clerical orders or paladin sects. Those that began as Rangers and Druids rarely belong to a community, and lose themselves in nature and in their studies.

THE EPIC PRIEST OF LEGACIES

Pray for Change: The Epic Priest of Legacies increases the maximum spell level of her Pray for Change ability at every odd level higher than 9th (to a maximum of spell level 9 at level 17). This allows her to affect higher-level spell slots with her Pray for Power ability as well.
