Half Elven Races
« on: June 02, 2019, 05:33:54 PM »
Disclaimer I am interested in 3.5E Homebrew.

That being said I've noticed there is a Half Elf race in the PHB, and I have a rulebook for some Half Elven offspring from the core races, but what about those of us who want to be Half-one-race-of elf half-another?  Like half Drow half Wood Elf, is one example.

Are you asking about how to make new half races or if there are any published? I'm not planning on buying the book you linked, so I don't know what's in it.

Strictly speaking, it'd be pretty easy to make a bunch of half races with formulas. My biggest hesitation about this is that as written, the half-elf is probably the weakest race in the PHB. It has the problem of not really being as good as a human (no bonus feat) or as good as an elf. The only advantage it gets is a +2 bonus to Diplomacy and Gather Information.

But yeah, it wouldn't be that much work to create a dozen or so "common" half-elf races, balanced how you like. If that seems like too much work, or you want it to be robust, you could come up with a list of abilities that you always add as a half-elf. The trick would be figuring out what to remove from each other race to balance it.
