Elizabeth enters cautiously, keeping an eye out for anything living or moving. She warns the hunter with her:

"Keep an eye on any corpses you find, in case... they are something more."

She wants to clear the building, room by room, before looking for any clues. If it's clear, she'll take 20 on Search to examine the bodies, and then anything else of interest in the house:

Search = 20+17 = 37

Once you get a light you realize there's a trail of blood coming into the house (it's likely hidden outside by the recent snowfall).  You find the maid dead in her bedroom, skull crushed.  Your partner finds the youngest child murdered in his bed, with a bloodstained mattock next to him.  The family safe has not been violated, and still has their savings (which is quite a lot of money).  There are several pheasants hanging in the kitchen, and dirty dishes.  Whoever did this was obviously not a robber, and may have stayed at the farm several days after the killings.

Eventually examining the outbuildings, you find the rest of the family in the barn, either killed there or drug from the actual kill site.  Skulls also crushed.  The cattle are in another barn, and have fresh food.  Whoever did this is not long gone or may be coming back.  He could be watching from a distance now.

will save plz

"We should head back to the others."

Elizabeth closes the door. Is it still currently snowing? If so, and if there are any small branches available, she tries to obscure their tracks, so that new snowfall will cover them.

She heads back to the others, gun still out, in case she encounters anything on the way, or even back by the group.

Your mind holds on and you do not give in to fear, some of the men aren't so sturdy.  What do you do next?  Go back to checking for the lost party or back to town?

How many hours are we out from town, and how many until sundown? If we can press on looking for a bit and still make it back by dusk, I'd like to keep looking.

Edit: How much cattle is left? If there aren't any human inhabitants, it might be worth bringing them back to town...

Cattle aren't big in America yet, so less than a dozen (which is still a lot of money).  You can press on a bit and make it back if there's no event that holds you up.

I'd say press on, then try to swing back by the farm on our way back, and look for signs that whatever killed them has returned.

Your initial thought is that it was a person.  They weren't eaten, so it's not the Trogs.  It's not a monster, because they wouldn't need a farm implement for a weapon.  Doesn't seem like the natives either.

The snow is pretty thick, not much game out.  It makes the woods eerily quiet.  You spot the next farmhouse in the distance.  The door is audibly flapping in the breeze.

Elizabeth hoping one or more of the hunters didn't snap and do this.

Int check to see if she knows anything about the occupants of this farm house (1d20+4).

This house is the property of a man named Schittenbauer.  One of the hunters tells you there are rumors he is the true father of Grubers son.  There are also rumors he was being sued because he claimed the boy was the product of an incestuous union between Gruber and his daughter.

Elizabeth thinks it's odd that these people haven't had much of an issue from the trogs, but perhaps they've wandered in the wrong direction. She looks for any sighs of activity in the snow, but doesn't expect to find much due to the current snowfall.

Like the last house, she runs up quickly to get behind cover, takes out her pistol, and listens for any activity inside:

She'll peek in the window if she doesn't hear anything dangerous sounding:

It's difficult to hear anything over the wind and the banging of the door.  As you look in the window the smell of death hits you again, and you can see what you're pretty sure are a pair of corpses on the bed.

Again, Elizabeth clears the rooms, gun drawn. Once she thinks it's empty, she'll search the area, taking 20.

Search = 20+17 = 37.

As per the other farm nothing appears stolen, and a trail of blood leads from the door to the husband.  He has obvious wounds and blood on his hands.  The wife is clean but for bruising and smeared blood on her neck.

It looks like she was strangled? How long does it look like they've been dead? Is there any sign of activity in the house (food left out, coals in the fireplace, etc)?

You don't think they're older than the other corpses, which would fit what you know already (and with current knowledge it's hard to tell).

Elizabeth quickly scrounges for anything of value that would help the town survive the winter. She heads back and reports her findings.

If it's getting late enough, we should circle back, and she's planning on commandeering the cattle if it seems safe to approach the first farm.

The farm is safe, but you might be leading them back to town in the dark.
