Nintendo Campaign-looking for new players (D&D 3.5)
« on: March 01, 2014, 02:18:58 PM »
As the title says I'm looking for fresh players for this campaign.

The basic premise that started this is playing on a setting that combines as much of the main Nintendo franchises as we could, split along different worlds/planes. So we have a medieval fantasy world for Fire Emblem and Zelda and the Mushroom Kingdom, then sci-fi worlds for Star Fox and Metroid, "modern" Earth for Earthbound and Pokemon, etc. You can find most of the developed fluff here. As a rule of thumb, we also cut a little back on the sillyness and try to make things more serious than the original material, altough humor is still welcome.

As another example, during the campaign the party ran into this set of (nonmagical) scrolls:

(click to show/hide)
(click to show/hide)
(click to show/hide)
(click to show/hide)
(click to show/hide)

We're using regular 3.5 rules tough, refluffing and reskinning as needed. Altough there's quite a bit of Nintendo-based homebrew already done, like Sufficiently Advanced Technology is Compatible with Magic for Metroid stuff and Heroes of Hyrule for Legend of Zelda stuff. My Monster Classes were also used for stuff like a Great Fairy and Donkey Kong.

The game started with some 7 players, but currently only 2 are active, so we could really use new players.

Interested? Then start posting here!

Character creation guidelines
-32pb.
-Standard WBL.
-Up to two flaws and one trait, those must be from the srd only.
-6th level (seems to be the most popular option so far and is generally a good starting level)
-Max HP at first level, then either roll or average (if you roll, you can't pick average).

What kind of characters are already there? Of the active people anyways.

I'm kind of real interested in some of that Heroes of Hyrule stuff you linked...

Current Party consists of
-Rabbit the space pirate, kinda of a jack of all trades with a bunch of high-tech gizmos, prefers to shoot stuff with his laser pistol.
-Jeremy the young child medic pokemon trainer that considers the rest of the party his pokemons to buff up and patch up as needed.

And then there's Anomander, who had been missing for quite some time but just popped back on the forums, who plays
-Pha the Great Ice Fairy. Specialized in area Cold damage and a bunch of extra manipulation tricks. Also an intimidation specialist.

Edit: Aaaand I have no idea what to play.
Some kind of tank that can take hits and dish the hurt in melee is probably what the party needs more right now. You could play a brutish Kong/Koopa/Pokemon, or some kind of FE/hylian warrior.

Masqueteer looks really interesting. I really love Majora's Mask too...

Where are those wonderful pieces of art from, anyways? I've been wondering for a while now, but never thought to ask.

How many more players are you looking for?

Hmm... I'd like to try the Pokemon idea, probably. Now I just need to find out how to mimic it...

Perhaps... hm, I'm liking the idea of making a Goodra as a tank. Maybe I'll crib stuff off of one of the Dragon Monster Classes..?

Hm. Pokemon is hard.

Well there is an actual Pokemaster homebrew and I've actually had the chance to play test it in a game. It actually turned out to be pretty decent, not overly powerful, especially considering it was not a homebrew game I managed to play it in. So it could probably work pretty well in this after review. It's fairly simple and makes an easy conversion to count any normal D&D monsters as Pokemon.

Funny, because that's the class  Nanshork  was playing. It is allowed, but the pokemons included with it will be handled in a case-by-case basis, since their quality varies quite a bit.

One arrangement I did with  Nanshork was that you could use monster classes as pokemon to better represent them leveling up bit by bit.

Oh, and I also ruled that D&D  dragons can't count as pokemons.

EDIT: Ups, missed Garryl's post there

3 players. The pics were found at random in the net, in a videogame chan if I remember correctly.

It's obscenely tempting to try and just write a class for Goomy/ Sliggoo/ Goodra, a la the improved monster classes.

I'll post a build for what I think I want to play later tonight.....early tomorrow morning. Or something. Actually sitting at a game atm so...:p

But I'm definitely thinking Hylian Warrior->Masqueteer.

Edit: Hmm....maybe not...I don't know anymore.

Edit: Okay, here;s a hilarious idea. Can I be a Deku Scrub?
And then, if a way could be found to do so, could I be allowed to do something like dual wielding hand crossbows, throw multiweapon fighting into the mix so I'm shooting three weapons (hand crossbows + the virtual light crossbow from the Spit racial ability), and abuse sneak attack by finding a way to threaten & flank with all these crossbows to fullattack with sneak attack on every shot? Toss your Shadow Creature template into the mix and general tactics would tend to be hiding in shadows to move into position, popping out and unloading from flanking position, then scuttling away to hide again because oh my gawd I'm in melee range get me out of here -_-' (and maybe I have to reload I dunno yet)

Yes, Prime32's LoZ races are allowed as well.

Triple crossbow sneak attack sounds like a good plan, if you can somehow cram all the needed stuff to make it work in 6 levels. :p

Well, I have a bunch of critiques for that.

First, Goodra is the last stage of a double evolution. Where are Goomy and Sliggoo? It just feels wrong to compact such an high level evolution into 5 levels. Speaking of which, it just learns moves too fast, they should be handed out at a much slower pace, 2 moves at first and one extra every other level. That would help with the first problem, you could easily make a 10 levels class with the material you posted there, just spread out the moves and secondary abilities a bit more (like one level you gain blindsense, then later on blindsight). Defensive abilities options would also be learned one at a time, and so on.

Valid; I was trying to mix them, but their abilities and moves are all the same for each evolution. :/ I'll rewrite it to ten levels, I guess.

I probably can't get it all into the first 6 levels, but it's something that'd be getting worked towards.
I found that it pretty much requires a feat from Dragon Magazine though; Ranged Threat.
Because Arrowmind spell doesn't work on crossbows  :shakefist

All printed books (note: Dragon mags aren't books, handled in a case by case basis). I reserve myself the option of banning/nerfing stuff that's too cheesy.

Bwaha! A build! Somehow I'm going to make a Deku Scrub work because I freaking love Deku Scrubs  :lmao

I'm completely done.
