Sorry if Kana seems like no fun, but I checked and she only takes risks when there seems like a good payoff. :P

Psh, not at all! Greed will probably take advantage of that to irk her in slight ways. He's kind of an ass. :D

Which I can only see as a benefit to the party at large.  :p Good luck to Kana and Dirk.

Speaking of, I have the feeling someone doesn't know this is up...

I can't afford it right now, between jobs and all, so I've been contenting myself with watching day[9] play. I'm mostly entertained by screaming at the screen over him deciding to not pick up items he could so very easily later sell or use or something why not just pick up the DAMN ITEMS GODDAMNIT DAY[9]!

Yes, I'm one of those players who loots for fucking everything. So sue me.

I tend to min/max my inventory. "How much does it weigh vs. how much it'll sell for?"  ;)

Still, haven't gotten to play nearly as much as I'd like. Regardless, those dragons are tough, but I keep getting mauled in 1-2 hits by wild bobcats of all things.  :shakefist

I feel like I'm cheating at skyrim myself.  Whoever decided that you could get your unarmed attacks up to 110 damage a hit when a daedric greatsword hits for 26 needs to be shot...
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: VennDygrem on November 15, 2011, 09:12:01 AM
How's that work? There's no unarmed (hand-to-hand) skill in Skyrim like there was before.
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: littha on November 15, 2011, 01:20:24 PM
There is a heavy armor perk that adds your gloves armor value to your unarmed damage, +68 for legendary dragonbone gauntlets. Then there is an enchantment that gives up to +10 damage that can be put on gloves ring and amulet and an additional +15 from being Khajiit.

So this thing is invisible, but it has Greed inside of it, meaning we can basically tell where it is at. Are we still going to suffer a 50% miss chance to hit it? I have a flask of torchbug paste. Is it worth using that? I'm thinking yes, it is...

So do I. And I think hitting it sooner so I can pop out is better than later.

Cause I really don't want to be in here long.

In other news, I think this means it dissolves my clothing? *Begins plugging in subwoofer*
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: littha on February 01, 2012, 03:23:44 PM
You should be fine as long as you attack the square greed is in, you dont know which others it occupies other than it is large and cube shaped.

Your clothing should dissolve pretty quickly if it is made of animal or plant products...
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: Flay Crimsonwind on February 01, 2012, 05:47:00 PM
On the one hand, that should screw my vest of resistance and steadfast boots, unless magic items have magic protection, and definitely eats the handle of my maul.

On on the other hand, all greed will be left with is his chain shirt and his gauntlet, and he has a 10 cha coupled with a lack of necessary decency or shame. So, that's funny.

This is actually a great prank to pull on a party, especially if the ooze dissolves when killed or can teleport away. I will have to remember this use...
Title: Re: OOC Thread

Is there any specific ruling on use of strikes in a grapple?
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: littha on February 04, 2012, 01:25:22 AM
Quote
Any maneuver that involves an attack may be used while grappling, as long as it’s made with an unarmed strike, natural weapon, or light weapon

Other maneuvers and stances can be initiated normally while grappling unless something intrinsic to the maneuver indicates otherwise. (For example, a maneuver that requires movement can’t normally be initiated while in a grapple because the grappling character can’t move freely.) Many maneuvers and stances are designed for use by grappling characters, and it seems counterintuitive to restrict those options. A grappling character is somewhat limited in his physical mobility, but to prevent him from initiating a maneuver or stance seems unreasonably limiting.

Sage advice and for once actually reasonable.

Littha, could you look over my character sheet?  I've discovered some improper math and I can't figure out where my extra +1 on the Ranged Attack bonus is coming from.

Also, does anybody know where the Crossbow Focus feat that I wrote down I want to take is from?

Lastly, I'm not two-weapon fighting so my attack roll gains an extra +2 though I doubt it will matter.   :p

Edit: And I seem to have one too many skills.  WTF?  :???
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: Nanshork on February 18, 2012, 04:05:57 AM
The extra +1 is because I'm small.   :facepalm

The crossbow focus question still stands, as does what you want me to do with the fact that I have an extra skill.  The improper math was me writing down a wrong number in a note but had the correct number in my equations.
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: littha on February 18, 2012, 07:41:55 PM
I cant seem to find a Crossbow Focus feat... Hand Crossbow Focus or Crossbow Sniper sure but as I explicitly allowed a whole load of homebrew here I have no idea.
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: Nanshork on February 18, 2012, 10:47:36 PM
According to the old board I wanted to go Crossbow Sniper, so that's what I meant to put in my sheet.

So, did you check over the math on my sheet?  What do you want to do about the fact that I have too many skills?
Title: Re: OOC Thread

You have 5 skills with 8 ranks which seems right for an int 10 human in a 4+int skills class.

There are two crates, the one with the defective guns lacks the maker's seal on top but otherwise they are identical.

Edited my post. You only mentioned there being one crate with us, so I felt I had to ask. With this new information, I've changed what Kana would have said.

Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: VennDygrem on April 16, 2012, 11:28:40 PM
Well, I brought up the fact that Talrick said he was going to inspect any guns we brought him. If we give him defective guns, he may set us up to be shot because of that. Alternatively, we could plant the idea in his head that the best way to see if the guns are truly effective is to test them, leading him to try to test them on us, leading his men to get blown up potentially

Alternatively, I can try to plant explosives on the wall behind us, and maybe sleight-of-hand the transmitter to blow the wall so I could detonate them at just the right moment. That would give us the blam, and a way to escape. Though, with only disoriented attackers, and not no-attackers.

Future-telling makes for exhausting strategic reasoning. Good thing I'm not in a campaign dealing with time travel or anything. No sirree, no plot holes or time paradoxes or anything confusing like that!  :P
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: phaedrusxy on April 17, 2012, 12:12:11 AM
Well, I brought up the fact that Talrick said he was going to inspect any guns we brought him.
Littha also said that we couldn't tell the bad guns from the good ones, even with close inspection. I doubt Talrick could either. Otherwise, he wouldn't have sent us here, or have been as upset about the faulty guns. That's my guess, anyway.

Won't get to make an official post until after work.

Until then, can I make sleight of hand or hide checks to hide some of my gadgets (ie: a couple bombs and at least one shatter bug) on my person during the walk back to town? Technically the checks won't matter unless someone tries to search me, but if I make high enough rolls, I'm hoping nothing will be suspicious enough to search. I mean, I assume they'll confiscate my haversack and other sacks like the first time, since they likely know that's where I keep my bombs/weapons.
Title: Re: OOC Thread

Since we're planning things, what are the group's thoughts on Kergis hiding one of his pistols on himself.?  Or any pistol really.
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: phaedrusxy on April 19, 2012, 03:10:25 PM
I think it is a great idea. Maybe Dirk should try to stash a holy symbol somewhere, too...

Hmm... is there some way we could put several items inside something, and then hide that and retrieve it later? Maybe Dirk could have an Unseen Servant precast and following us around, and have it carry/drag around an invisible sack full of our gear just before we enter the city gates...
Title: Re: OOC Thread

Attempting to hide pistol now...
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: Nanshork on April 19, 2012, 04:41:58 PM
Wow, that was a really crappy roll.

I don't suppose that I could say that I just took ten instead?

Lastly, just so that this isn't hidden away in a spoiler and forgotten, Kergis stashed his second Bandoleer somewhere (like wherever he lives) and is currently running around with one hidden gun and one holstered gun.  He's also at half ammo capacity which I'll note in my sheet.
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: Flay Crimsonwind on April 19, 2012, 10:50:31 PM
I would suggest hiding something on my person, but what the hell have I got to hide? No way I'm hiding the maul, and the rest is clothing or not for combat. I suppose I'll do fine. I suppose they'd take my gauntlets too, but..... meh....

He WILL make sure he's morphed a set of teeth, and claws on his hands, though. Yay morphic weapons!
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: phaedrusxy on April 19, 2012, 10:52:36 PM
Yeah, Dirk is an unarmed swordsage, so he can do decently well without weapons as well. Yay for unarmed swordsage! :D

I still think we should go with the Unseen Servant + Invisible sack trick to sneak in any other gear we want. We could put one of Kergis' guns in there...

And let's say we spent a day chilling out in the woods, so we can burn some healing spells to cure up. Dirk doesn't have any wands for that kind of thing...

Edit: Done updating my prepared spells and maneuvers. I prepped Unseen Servant. So does anyone have a Haversack we can turn invisible, and put our stuff in for the Servant to carry for us?

You know that the god this particular sect worships is devoted to absolute law. He is supposed to have created the arbitrators of time, space and magic according to their doctrine.

The effect seems much to powerful to exist inside a magic suppressed area so it is most likely that the item generating this effect is more powerful than the field itself, most likley an artefact of some sort.

What magic-suppressed area are you referring to?

Anywhere near the cities, rewriting reality like that is generally equivalent to a 9th or epic level spell.

Now would be a good time to spend any money you have or sell those guns. In addition you all get 5000 xp (which should be enough to get you to level 6).

A crate of guns like that is probably worth about 8000gp to the right buyer.

I had originally planned to go into Garryl's Twilight Mystic PrC next... but man, it is hard to pass up 3rd level spell access... I'm thinking of instead just taking another level of Cloistered Cleric.

I'd wind up ultimately going Cloistered Cleric 6/Swordsage 2 and then into Divine Trickster (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9623145#post9623145) (qualifying with Assassin's Stance). As much as I like Garryl's class, faster access to higher level spells is worth more than advancing maneuvers, really... Gah, the curse of the multiclass caster...

Any objection to Dirk entering the Church Inquisitor PrC? I think it fits his theme pretty well (he's a snitch, infiltrator, spy, etc, for the Watch, at least in his background). The prereqs technically say you have to worship a LG deity, though, and he is LN and Rebukes. Otherwise, he meets the mechanical prereqs.

Edit: Assuming that's OK, he's leveled up except for purchasing gear. For that, I'll definitely be getting a Wand of Lesser Vigor and maybe a Healing Belt.

I'm mostly done leveling, but I realized that I never made up more than one Lesser Bright Idea. I'm going to put homebrewing new classes on the back-burner and come up with some Bright Ideas for you to look over. Luckily I already had a couple more ideas that I just never wrote down.

Eh, I'd rather keep Detect Evil.

Also, I'm done leveling up. I went ahead and used the 2000 gp from my split of selling the guns to update my gear.

Anyone have a problem if we say we sold them to the City Watch?  ;)

Cool. So I could trade them my blades for a set just like them that's enchanted, and just pay the difference in cost to enchant them? Now I just need to decide if I really want to spend that much money for a +1 to hit and damage... when I could buy something cooler and/or more useful. :P

OK, so I've prepared Chain of Eyes, Disguise Self, Know Vulnerabilities, and Detect Thoughts to help with infiltration/information gathering. Dirk also picked up Darkstalker to make him more of a sneaky bastard.

So what I'm thinking is I sneak up and try to get Chain of Eyes on someone heading into the camp, and then we wait while they pass the "sensor" around for a while from person to person to gather as much info "remotely" as I can. I'm not really sure how to land this without being caught, as the range is touch. Maybe I could cast it on one of you guys (and you voluntarily fail the save), and then you go to the camp and pretend to be a lost traveler or some nonsense, and touch a guard before you get kicked out?

Then after we take a look around, we can hopefully get a better idea how to use Disguise Self in the best way to get close enough to their "fearless leader" (without suspicion) to hit her with Know Vulnerabilities, and while I'm there I can scan around with Detect Thoughts to try and see if I can learn anything about this group, her, and their ritual that we don't already know. If Dirk is sneaking around in their camp, I'd appreciate it if you guys were nearby, in case anything bad happens...  :bigeyes
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: littha on September 15, 2012, 09:55:56 AM
Clever :D.

The camp is a mile or so north of your position and fairly obvious even from here, there are a whole lot of bonfires and torches laid out. Approaching shouldn't be that hard but there is a clear perimeter with what you can assume are guarded entrances along a palisade wall.  You cant really pick out much more from this distance though.
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: phaedrusxy on October 16, 2012, 02:39:53 PM
OK, so now we wait for Greed to get back, while Dirk follows whatever the guy with the Chain of Eyes sensor sees for a bit, and gives a play-by-play to his partymates, in case they "notice" something he misses as important.

Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: phaedrusxy on December 17, 2012, 12:00:49 AM
So... I have no idea... any plan I can come up with seems completely hopeless... :P

I think to have any chance, we're going to have to sneak in at night and/or have Dirk pretend to be one of the soldiers. If he pretends to be a soldier, he could bring the rest of the party in under some pretenses (most likely would be prisoners that he found lurking around).

To do this, we'd probably need to capture/kill the guy Dirk is impersonating. Otherwise, he might bump into "himself"...

Once we're inside, would it be feasible at all for Kara to just try blowing the whole tent where this psychobitch is at? Maybe we can try to steal her shield/amulet/sword first...

Hmm... perhaps we could use the  mobile alchemy workshop used to fuel the main armaments on the ship (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=980.msg93524#msg93524) to make a big bomb?  :D

Hmm... I did notice that she's set the shield down on an altar when I was scrying on her. So there might be a chance of hitting her while she isn't holding it, if we time it right... The shield is the thing that allows her to "rewrite history", as far as I could tell from my earlier research.

I still have no ideas, except trying to set off a giant bomb (made from our alchemy workshop on the ship) at the same time that we somehow steal her shield...
Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: Flay Crimsonwind on February 05, 2013, 05:04:15 PM
Yeah, we're gonna have to get her away from the shield and then hit her hard. If we can separate her, I can tie her up in combat while someone jacks the artifact. That's about all i can do, save for go back to the camp again as an interested party who will not be denied...

Could at least provide a moment of distraction that way.

So what now? I think we're on our way in, right? Dirk is walking up in Disguise, with a Mindlink on Kara and Greed as his fake prisoner (we should probably have some fake/real shackles  on him or something... now that I think about it... I will take care of that with his Shapesand, which can be conveniently removed when needed... or hell, turned into a weapon for Greed to use :P ) And Kara and Kergis are setting out to plant bombs (and hopefully won't become real prisoners.....)

Right?

It's Kana, by the way.  :P

Also, how big of an explosion do we need? My bomb has a 10' radius and a small cluster of blasts as it is, so one should be pretty big and noticeable, though I could always do two or three. Is the distraction meant to draw them to a specific direction, or cause a ruckus? I can't quite recall.

I think the idea is that while Greed and I are in the bitch's chambers, I'll give the mental signal and you guys cause 1 or more explosions. Then hopefully I can go "wow, what's that?" and while she looks away, I can grab her shield.

I'm also thinking of trying the old "switcheroo" with a replacement shield fabricated from the Shapesand in Greed's shackles, if I have time. :P

So, wrote a post, and then hit a small snag. If I were to charge, does the melee attack post charge (or conducted during Charging Minotaur) qualify to initiate a grapple? It makes sense in my head, and I think the rules allow for it, but I'm checking.

Fairly sure it does qualify. Grapple attempts just require an attack roll (you can do them several times in a full attack after all)

So okay, confirming, i was under the impression you needed to start a grapple by hitting with a melee attack, then succeeding with an unarmed touch, then the opposed grapple. If this is true..... then I hope dirk has a way of holding her in place, cause sure as hell I'm gonna have trouble with that armor.
Title: Re: OOC Thread

You gotta love it when some of the top posters on an optimisation focused board don't know how grapple works properly... says something about the grapple rules at least.

Anyway, according to the SRD its
1. Attack of Opportunity (unless you have the feat)
2. Melee Touch attack
3. Free action opposed grapple check

That said I am sure you can also do it with a normal unarmed attack... or was that touch spells?

I don't think you can (unless you have the Improved Grab special ability, or Scorpion's Grasp feat). You're thinking of touch spells.

If you optimize for it, it can work pretty well... until the enemies start getting FoM. I've played a lot of grapple specialists, actually (but they all could do other things, of course).

And here I thought she'd be up and about! Weeeeell then!

Oh I hope to god her dex score is shitty.....

Cause if I hit, that grapple is nice. If I missed, I'm gonna kick myself.

Btw, what's the plan if all goes well? Do I just strangle her to death with a crappy 1d3 nonlethal a round, or try and get through her AC with naturals?

Also, I've been back and forth on these boards and games for a while, but a quick question; is she a bad person, really? We know she's hyper dangerous, but the only reason we're killing her is because a ganglord told us to on pain of death. A gang lord we don't like. I'm just trying to recall our motivation for killing her. Not that Greed cares, this is just me wondering.

And as for what to do, just hold her while Dirk tickles her kidneys. :P He's got a Silence effect going. So no worry about the screams. :D

Well I'll be damned... I don't think I've ever seen a tie! I had to look up the damned rules on it!

Quote
In case of a tie, the combatant with the higher grapple check modifier wins. If this is a tie, roll again to break the tie.
:shakefist

You can try again with any other attacks you have, but they'll be at a lower bonus (unless you're TWF or something, I guess...).

How big is that table?... Could Dirk feasibly lift it, or at least turn it upside down (on top of the shield)? :D His strength is 10, and he is small...

Edit: Also, how the hell is she touching that shield without being burned up? Does any of the rest of her gear match it in appearance? (I'm thinking this thing is like Thor's hammer, and maybe she has to have a certain pair of gloves to hold it or something...) Is there some kind of check which might help Dirk get a hunch about that?

Knowlege arcana I suppose... but you don't see anything about her armour that suggests something special.

the altar is dark brown on the map, its quite large and made of stone with a red and gold cloth on top.

Red and gold cloth, you say? So the shield is presumably actually sitting on that? So Dirk could conceivably just yank that off the table (or if he's feeling brave, pick it up by wrapping the cloth around it...)? Hmm...

You should have beat it by 3 more than that actually, you can oppose trip with either strength or dexterity if I recall. it helps I flubbed the Str check though :D

One thing I forgot, all the squares she threatens are counted as difficult terrain due to one of her class abilite. That I forgot is sad considering that Bulwark of Defense is the only reason anyone takes knight levels. You easily have enough movement to get to and grab the shield but I don't know if you have enough to make it all the way out of the tent.

Looks like he'd make it to be standing in the doorway but still inside the tent, if that's the case...

Did I say I was going to try and burrow toward the direction the tent was supposedly in? I thought that was part of the plan, but can't honestly remember. If Kana had been burrowing since right after the detonation, and spent all of her action resources just moving, how close could she have gotten by now?

About 3 rounds worth. We really haven't moved all that far chronologically since the bang.

Bang > Run into Tent > Surprise Round > Current round.

I had planned to have you dodging patrols at this point but then I realised how fast this was panning out and realised there wasn't enough time for a patrol to even get near you by this point and there wont be unless this combat goes on for 10 rounds+ so I am at a bit of a loss for what to do with the guys outside the camp.

So, we're getting owned by Evil American Dream nix her invinci-shield, and none of our plans are working. I, the muscle, am having a hell of a time out muscling her, and the sneaky can't get past her.

I really hope the outside group doesn't get captured or anything.

She hasn't even hurt either of us yet, right? I thought her attacks missed you. So far it's actually not going that bad for us... I am just trying to make damned sure she doesn't wind up with that shield...

Considering she basically has no feats unless she is holding a shield and several of her class abilities are non-functional without said shield this surprises me greatly.

Please don't. Especially if you can follow Kana through a tunnel to near where we are.  :lmao

That's a good question.  Can I follow Kana or am I being abandoned?

Generally you cant follow a burrowing creature, it does depend on the source of the ability though because I know of at least one creature that leaves a tunnel behind.

While, as a rule, most creatures don't leave a tunnel, some do. Saboteur allows leaving a tunnel through dirt, but not stone.

If I couldn't, there would be little reason for me to head in the way I am since I couldn't rescue Greed and Dirk via burrowing. If Littha decides leaving a tunnel isn't allowed, I'll have to go with Plan B.

Title: Re: OOC Thread
Post by: Nanshork on September 18, 2013, 03:19:49 PM
Kergis is just following along in the tunnel so his turn is pretty much known every round until he can pop up out of the ground and rain fiery death upon everyone.

Dirk has an area of Silence around him... which I've been regretting pretty much since first putting it up. :( So I think you'd be inside it, and unable to speak/be heard.

I'd have probably cast an Invisibility on Dirk and/or the shield if it weren't for that...

My work schedule coupled with a wealth of fun (sarcastic use of fun there) has pretty much killed any amount of time I spend online anymore. With that in mind, I am stepping out (or down, whichever the case may be) of every game I am currently involved in, including this one.

If any of you know folk from the other games I'm involved in, and I haven't copy/pasted this into the OOC thread for that game, please let them know. I'll only be stepping out of this site for an undetermined amount of time; I simply don't have the time to keep up with and compose messages for the games I'm in. Which sucks, because as you all might have picked up from the number of games I dive into, I enjoy pbp. So hopefully I'll be back soon.
More specifically to this game, I am VERY, VERY sorry. I suppose Greed could easily be arrested/lost somehow, but I know this comes at a shitty moment. If I could promise any time at all, I'd try and see out the fight, but I can't guarantee that. :(
