Ever Onwards
« on: July 10, 2017, 03:14:04 PM »
We've made things even more classical than they were earlier today. That's right, the original Brilliant Gameologists is viewable once again as an archive. It's exactly the same as it was when it was originally archived, and users who had an account can still sign in and check the place out, although as before, no posting is allowed.

In addition, we've made a few minor changes around here as part of the ongoing forum update. You'll notice the appearance of an Archive forum in the meta section. It's the home of links to the Storm Shelter, Brilliant Gameologists, Retired PbP Games, and the BG Podcast forum. Like other archives, these are viewable, quotable, and non-postable.

Finally, with the updated forum software we are experimenting with reducing the anti-spam protections necessary, although they may return if the spam does. For the moment, users no longer need to post in the Noob and Introduce Yourself forums to join our community, making MMX a little bit more welcoming.

Query: How does one conveniently quote from one of the archive boards and retain the formatting/BBCode? My usual method, hitting quote and copying the relevant sections and quote header, doesn't work because, with non-postability, there's no quote button.

Q :  How to trigger a Google Crawl of http://bg-archive.minmaxforum.com/ ?

not A : I've noticed 1 ping and failed 2 attempts to log in to old+new BG by iffy named, probably google sourced things.  So yeah 3 hits total right now for the bg archive itself.

not Q :  It's not necessary to have a google crawl of http://storm-shelter.minmaxforum.com/I think it's a small enough database, to use the basic board search function and find things.  My opinion, but I'd guess that google would be more convenient for most.

Why can't I view profiles when logged into bg-archive.minmaxforum.com?

Why can't I view profiles when logged into bg-archive.minmaxforum.com?

I remember profile viewing got disabled in the later days of the original BG board. I don't remember if it was just before or some time after the move to MMX. Something to do with spambots, I think? The disabled profile setting probably got brought along with the restored forum database.

In detail, this is a question for the computer people (aka: everyone on the team who's not me), but I don't think there's a way to allow that without enabling posting again. Toggling the WYSIWYG editor and copy-pasting straight should help with most of it, though. It's the very rightmost button on the second line of the formatting bar, the blue mouse cursor between red brackets.

Haha, I remember all you guys! I never got quite as busy here as I did way back on the first iteration of the WotC boards where I had my massive "handy links" thread. Here, I think my only solid contribution left is the "lists of stuff" compilation.

As for what I've been up to, eh, life really kicked me in the tuckus a while back and I kinda withdrew from things. Burned way too many years in grad school, bought a house, took on more responsibilities running a non-profit in children's education... very humdrum adult kinda things. I haven't touched anything D&D related for years, but the other day I randomly decided to pop in and see if there were any familiar faces.

I actually tried a few days earlier, but I guess the timing was bad with the board out of commission. I was sad thinking everything was gone, but am glad to see it's all mostly restored.
