Alright, thanks.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Eldritch Blast vs Hold Person
« on: February 25, 2024, 01:06:41 AM »
Eldritch Blast is a spell-like ability. I believe SLAs do not require any verbal, somatic, or material components; i.e. they're a purely mental action. Hold Person paralysis its victim, but mental actions are still allowed. So can a person being held still use eldritch blast?

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Skill tricks & familiars
« on: October 14, 2023, 11:56:56 PM »
I reread the skill tricks section on the srd. It does always call it skill points and not ranks. I just always considered it as having 2 ranks in the skill trick. And it's been a while since I've had a familiar. My weasel can live without it. Thanks for the reply.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Skill tricks & familiars

Familiars get ranks in skills equal to its master's. So if the master buys a skill trick, am I correct in assuming the familiar also gets that skill trick?

Quote
Skills: For each skill in which either the master or the familiar has
ranks, use either the normal skill ranks for an animal of that type or the
master’s skill ranks, whichever are better. In either case, the familiar uses
its own ability modifiers. Regardless of a familiar’s total skill modifiers,
some skills (such as Craft) may remain beyond the familiar’s ability to
use.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Bonus hp question
« on: August 20, 2023, 09:41:41 PM »
Thanks. The monstrous scorpion makes it clear. Other creatures with 1/4 d8 +0 (cat, lizard, weasel, monstrous centipede) all have 2 hp. So 1/4 d8 +2 = 4 makes it obvious the entire +2 is added.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Bonus hp question
« on: July 03, 2023, 01:16:44 AM »
Summon Monster 1 allows you to summon a fiendish raven with 1/4 HD, 1hp.  CON is 10.
Augment Summoning boosts the CON to 14, which gives +2hp/HD.  But it doesn't have a full HD, only a 1/4 HD. Does it still get the full +2 hp? I assume so, especially since the alternative is half a hp.

Sounds interesting, but plants are a type of creature.

PHB, p306
Quote
creature type: One of several broad categories of creatures. The
creature types are aberration, animal, construct, dragon, elemental,
fey, giant, humanoid, magical beast, monstrous humanoid, ooze,
outsider, plant, undead, and vermin. (See the Monster Manual for full
descriptions.)

It's an 8 years old torrent link, 8 years is like forty-eight aeons in internet torrent time.

4th edition came out in 2008 - 14 years ago. I doubt Dragon has added any 3.5 prestige classes in the last 8 years.

What Obelisk is this and what's the proper link to access it?

Thankee!

It's in Expedition to the Ruins of Greyhawk.

Gaming Advice / Re: High level dungeon advice needed

Most importantly, I have a deal with a genie that grants me a wish once a year in return for epic tales of my adventures she can share in her master's court.

This reminds me of a webcomic I just saw yesterday. A guy gets 3 wishes from a genie. His first wish is that the genie can't count :)

Baatorian Green Steel - Fiendish Codex
Blended Quartz - Arms & Equipment Guide
Blood Glass - Secrets of Xen'drik
Blue Ice - Frostburn

The 3.5 FAQ (date 6-30-2008) references the ELH

Quote
Several armor and weapon special abilities have fixed
prices instead of a bonus equivalency. Do these abilities
count toward the maximum +10 bonus in enhancements?

    No.
That said, if you’re using the guidelines for epic magic
items (page 123 in the EL), any fixed-price abilities should
count toward the 200,000-gp market-price “trigger” to
determine if an item is considered epic.

Dieties & Demigods hints at it on p28
Quote
Create Magic Items: A deity of rank 1 or higher can create
magic items related to its portfolio without any requisite item creation
feat, provided that the deity possesses all other prerequisites
for the item. The maximum item value a deity can create is a function
of its divine rank (see the table below). The item’s cost and creation
time remain unchanged, but the deity is free to undertake
any activity when not laboring on the item (see Creating Magic
Items in the DUNGEON MASTER’S Guide).
Divine Maximum
Rank Market Price
1–5 4,500 gp
6–10 30,000 gp
11–15 200,000 gp (any nonartifact)
16–20 No maximum (including artifact)

Weapons of Legacy
Quote
CONVERTING STANDARD MAGIC ITEMS TO LEGACY ITEMS
Using the standard item’s abilities as a guideline, it should
be fairly simple to map out a progression for legacy
abilities. The item’s base price determines what legacy
abilities the item has: If its price is 18,000 gp or less,
it has least abilities only; between 18,000 gp and 72,000
gp, it has least and lesser abilities; and between 72,000 gp
and 200,000 gp, it has least, lesser, and greater abilities.
If the standard item’s cost is more than 200,000 gp, use
the rules for epic legacy items starting on page 218
.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Sneak Attack & Magic Missile
« on: December 15, 2021, 01:37:01 AM »
Cool.  Magic missile doesn't require an attack roll, so it wouldn't get SA.
And Complete Arcane mentions that a spell that allows multiple attacks, only the 1st gets SA.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Sneak Attack & Magic Missile
« on: December 14, 2021, 12:31:33 AM »
Thanks.  Not applying SA to spells makes everything simple.

16
RAW, I'd say yes, you lose your prestige class powers.

The whole cavestalker class seems to be about making your way easy through deep dark dungeons, so it seems natural you'd need darkvision or some way to see in the dark.  But I would ask the DM if it has to be "natural darkvision", or if a spell or magic item would be good enough.

Good luck!

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Sneak Attack & Magic Missile
« on: December 13, 2021, 05:12:41 PM »
PC may soon get magic missile, CL3, which means 2 missiles.
He has 1d6 sneak attack.

Assume he wins initiative, so the target is flat-footed, and sneak attack applies.

1) Ami I correct in assuming SA applies to magic missile?

2) Would SA apply once total, or once per missile, or once per target?

TIA

Does magic suffer the 50% miss chance when used against ghosts?

Eg, does a fireball automatically hit or does the miss chance apply?

What about spells that require a touch attack?

Medium damage is 1d6.  Longbow does 1d8.  So you get a +1 to hit and -1 damage (average).
Shortbow does 1d6 and has a shorter range, so compared to a shortbow, it's better.
