Gwaedwen both blushes and balls her tiny fists at being referred to as 'little one'. She obviously gets no respect in her natural delicate and adorable form, and she needs to do something about it.

"So, before we depart to do the work of our lord and hunt down the Kier like the dogs they are, think the villagers could spare another cow for the sake of their safety and their purses?"

She would prefer to shroud herself with the sharp teeth and other trappings of a vicious predator like a dog, but assuming the endurance of cattle is still better to her than to be treated as a fragile dolly.

"I have an idea of what you do, surely. I have not, though, seen the end results of one of those." He gestures to the arbalest.

"I can imagine, however."

Looking past the group toward the gathered villagers, he scans the crowd.

"So it seems you have been here for some time, I must assume you have questioned these villagers. What do they know of the kier? Have they any leads?"

"Quite a mess, but you small folk tend to leave that anyway," Red answers with a shrug, hefting the arbalest once again and folding her arms. "We got here yesterday, I drilled the villagers in basic defence. The kier have been attacking like you'd expect but seem to have scampered after watching us in the afternoon."

"Hmm... Well then, I should set about checking for any traces of their recent presence. Where did your companion notice the Kier before they retreated? That would likely be the best place to begin. Perhaps once the mage has acquired her cow."

Seeing that the stranger is speaking with the rest of the party, and is apparently no threat, Jarn returns to watching for Kier, keeping himself hidden

"Last time we had a bead on the Kier has been yesterday late afternoon to evening. They were hiding in the tree-line north of here, but had already vanished when I tried to lure them out."

Madoc spends a moment recalling what he's seen over the past several days.

"That is good information... I will begin my search in that area. Oh, and if you need animal life, I can help you hunt for something. I am fairly familiar with the wildlife in this area, and know of some areas that may prove useful to you, if you wish for more than cows."

With that, Madoc nods to the group and heads to the northern tree-line in search of traces of the presence of kier.

After several minutes of searching, Madoc returns to the group.

"There is certainly evidence of Kier among the trees where you pointed. When your group is ready, we can go to hunt them down."

"I'll be with you in moment."

Gwaedwen walks off to buy another cow, lead it out of sight and return several minutes later. Her complexion looks much healthier, and her petite figure seems a bit meatier and plumper. Two small horns adorn her head, and she is fidgeting with the top of her dress to get her now milk-swollen mammaries into as comfortable position as possible.

"If the villagers want it, the carcass is behind the large oak and still good to eat. For our own journey provisions it would probably be a bit heavy."

Noting the flonha's physical changes, Madoc shrugs.

The yn gyntaf trots back over to the northern tree line and awaits the group.

Ebony follows the group into the woods, where nothing evil lurks....besides a few of them.
Hmm.

Jarn emerges from the grass and follows the group into the woods. He keeps to the back, making sure nothing comes up behind them

Madoc leads the group into the woods, stepping around trees and avoiding branches where possible. The Llethu wasn't going to make hiding the group's presence a viable plan, but the goal right now was to find the Kier. If they found the group instead, it would still result in dead Kier...just with the likely addition of greater wounds for the party.

Though he hadn't found the kier's footprints before, Madoc knew they had come through this way. Unless they scattered wildly, he had to guess they travelled a more or less straight path for at least a short distance. As the group makes their way deep enough into the trees, Madoc halts to check once more for tracks or traces of their prey.

It was clear that Red agreed fully with Madoc on the pointlessness of hiding her own approach--both for the more stealth-related reason of being a shifting mass of metal and casually-held weaponry, and the unavoidable other one from her size: so many of the branches in this forest were just too damn low. The eyes visible under the helmet were definitely frowning. It was inevitable that her approach wasn't the quietest...

... but at least she was making an effort.

Madoc's eyes narrow as he seemingly discovers the tracks he was seeking.

"The trail leads this way."

The Yn Gyntaf stalks to the northeast, following a set of tracks which he points out to the group.

The trail that Madoc followed wound through the trees, quickly becoming something that only the most skilled of trackers could have seen. The Kier, wildlings as they were, clearly knew the ways of the forest better than any but the beasts who lived there.

As they walked, around them the party heard the roar of beasts, the howl of something being hunted, and occasionally spotted movement, both on the ground and in the trees, but nothing ever approached. Perhaps it was the size of the group, or perhaps the size and the scent of Red Harvest, her oiled metal armour distinctly foreign to a place such as this. Either way, everyone was grateful that the local wildlife had chosen not to become involved with their mission against the Kier

Rounding a corner on the trail, now deep into the woodlands, Jarn stuck out a hand to grab Madoc and halt him, then carefully pointed at the trail before them. Resting across it was a very fine piece of cord, disguised with draping and dead insects to look as if it was merely a spider’s web. When everyone was safely away and the string was plucked, a log cut into spiked timber smashed across the trail where they would have stood.

Madoc grunts as the log crashes down. He nods to Jarn in acknowledgement.

"Looks like the Kier are craftier than I gave them credit for... But this only means we approach closer to our prey. Let us all remain vigilant, then."

Madoc steps around the log, and checks for further traps in the area. He then continues following the tracks.

While there were no traps in the immediate vicinity, in short order they began to come thick and furious, as a pit trap was followed by another tripwire device, and thence by a crude contraption that bore some resemblance in operation to the arbalest carried by Red Harvest. One had even been triggered by the local wildlife, and a startled deer lay impaled alongside the trail, having turned onto it in an unfortunate moment.

It was shortly after the nest of impalement devices that the trail split into two, supposedly equally used parts, one heading vaguely to the north, and the other in a somewhat west south westerly direction. Both carried footprints, or rather pawprints, that likely had come from the Kier.

"Hmm... A split path, both alike in Kier tracks. Let's see..."

Madoc inspects the tracks to determine whether either is a better bet to lead to Kier, or if one simply leads to a Kier ambush...

To Madoc, it seems that the left track, the one heading west south west was more appropriate of the two. He, therefore, took it.

Red looked at the log in irritation, then hefted the item up. She'd make sure to give it back to its owners when they met up.
