Well, you don't buy a rain jacket because you hope it will rain (at least sane people don't), but because you want to stay dry whether it rains or not.

Are you trying to say that Svetlana is just being polite now? If I keep insisting on the barricade plan will she eventually put down her foot and say she's not willing to take the risk?

"What do you guys think? Does an ambush sound like a good strategy? Personally, I prefer the siege strategy. If we didn't have such a good defensive position, I might warm to the ambush plan, or if our environment lent itself to an ambush. As it is, we lose a great deal of the fort's advantage as soon as it's penetrated by intruders. If we had an expert trapsmith, we could change the environment greatly to our advantage, but I don't think any of us have those skills."

Oleg doesn't have a well or nearby creek? I'm asking this question here because I'm assuming my character would already know the answer. I didn't get the impression we were in a dessert, but then again I'm not running the AP.

Vian chuckles on the inside while a smile escapes to his lips. He replies, "Milady, your offer is very generous. I think we would be honored to be of service to such hospitable hosts. How many hours do you think we have before these brigands arrive? This inn was once a fort, was it not? Do you not have means about the place to fortify it again? I'm thinking mainly wood that we might use to bar the doors and board the windows." Turning to his companions, Vian said, "Do you all want to go forward with this? Now is the time to air objections and also strategies. I think it would be a waste to not take advantage of this building's defensive characteristics, even if I am much more skilled at war on the back of my horse."

So does that mean keep the post as it is for now? Or do you want me to change some things?

Unless someone objects, I've implicitly added Gror and Konrad to our game, if only on the "fringe." If one of them later wants to join the game again, we have a faster way of adding them back in now. We now know each other; they only have to explain where they've been in the intervening time. (Though if I'm honest I mainly did this because I didn't want to have to revise my character's background again.) For now, however, we can proceed as a 3 player party. I have brought the second replacement in, so hopefully we'll have a 4th player before too long. Fingers crossed.

Vian sat at a table with the rest of his party, drinking ale and lost in thought. It seemed to him he could no longer wait for the other members he had hoped would join the party. Konrad and Gror would not be joining them, and if they tried, they would no longer find the party at Oleg's Trading Post, the point from which they had agreed to set out. Vian could not say he was surprised, but he was saddened nonetheless. Ever since that argument with Konrad in Restov, he had worried that Konrad would not be joining them. Konrad and Vian were similar personalities, which is to say they often butted heads. Vian could see in Konrad a definite ability to lead, much like his own. He had potential not just for greatness, but also for goodness. But it was a potential only, one that had been neglected, not nourished. Only his potential for greatness was fostered. Konrad wanted to lead, but his ideas of good government were very much at odds with Vian's. Vian had probably asserted his position too strongly and too harshly. Doubtless Konrad's pride had been affronted. Vian was not much used to failure in persuasion, but Konrad was too like him, too independent and strong-willed. Gror meanwhile had always been of a similar political persuasion, so it was no surprise that the charismatic Konrad had persuaded Gror to split ranks and join him. Join him where? Vian had a guess. The charter which Vian's party held was not the only one of its kind. Konrad perhaps had set out with one of the other parties to establish a kingdom where he would not be restrained by Vian and his morals. Whatever the case, Konrad and Gror were now beyond their grasp. The time had come to set off.

Vian was disturbed from his ruminations by argumentative sounds coming from Svetlana and Oleg. He observed the exchange between Svetlana and Oleg with amused interest. To the rest of the party, he murmured, "What do you guys suppose that is about? Clearly we have outstayed our welcome with Oleg." He did not say to the party what he thought of Svetlana. What is she saying with her eyes? Is she attracted to me? She wouldn't be the first. Many were drawn to his air of exoticism, doubtless from his fey blood, thin though it was. His half-fey mother was a celebrated beauty, and he had not fared the worse for it. Again he murmered, "Well, unless someone objects, I'm going to ask if there's any way we may ingratiate ourselves to Oleg." With that, he began to push out his chair...

It would seem our 4th player position, like the teacher of defense against the dark arts, is a cursed one. If LordHavelock goes inanimate linklord231, I would just start the game anyways. I think a party of 3 can handle encounters for a party of 4. This is, after all, the Min Max Boards. If he doesn't respond, I'll bring another one off the bench so we'll (hopefully) have a 4th player before too long.

If anyone wants to know, I've posted a full (and somewhat revised) character background at the bottom of my Myth Weavers sheet. It's not all that useful to know, and you won't know a lot of it in-character, but if you're interested, it's there. In this background, I meet Konrad von Holstein first. He's the new PC who will be joining shortly. His character fluff and crunch is done. He's just familiarizing himself with our forum and then he'll be good to go.

Gazzien, with my revised character background I actually pass right through Taldor, so that will be the specific place where Vian and Arella meet.

Alright, if Zook's online presence improves, he might join the party sometime after the adventure's begun. I've been asking around on GiantitP and found a replacement. It will take a bit of time, but I'll bring him on.

IDK what's happened to zook. He hasn't joined the Roll20 campaign, nor has he responded to this thread or the rules thread. Even if you did get the game thread started, signs are pointing to him not responding to it either.

I only decided a couple days ago. I didn't say anything earlier because there were no questions on this thread.

Well, thanks for the contributions guys. I ended up going with one of the Myth Weavers applicants.

For those interested, this game (Advent of Shadows) will be opening up again in a couple months once this prelude is finished. Sadly, it will start out low level. But for those who stick to it, I plan to progress to high levels, even epic.

At the moment I'm working from about 9 - 5 PST Thurs - Sun. On those days, I check the forum at least once in the evening. The rest of the week I probably check the forum twice daily.

Hey everyone,
So I find it's convenient for everyone to know the group's availability, that way we can make the most of when we post. If you want, post a rough picture of your availability here, that way we know what to expect.

Character Sheets / Re: Vian

Hey linklord231, is it alright if I don't use the default light horse from Bestiary I? The monsters represented there are just supposed to be standard monster builds, but not necessarily what they're all like. What I'm getting at here strictly is feats. Now a horse gets Run as a bonus feat, so I can't change that. But I was hoping to have Power Attack instead of Endurance. Is that alright?

linklord, sadly, I'm pretty sure the players can't add tokens: only DMs. I haven't found a way to give them that permission. So you or I are just going to have to pick the closest matching token we can.

If we were playing a traditional Roll20 game with everyone online at the same time, then I might worry about the preponderance of messages. However, as most messages will be posted on Min Max Boards, I don't think there will be a problem with the rolls getting burried. Just make sure to say what each roll is for with a group message.

Concerning Cass Talakhis, perhaps you traveled to Restov from Issian when you heard the rumors of the Swordlords' offers? You figured you could find one of the adventuring parties before they set off and offer your services? Let me know if it sounds plausible.

Now we just need a response from zook and we should have a party background.

That's fine, your color is easily distinguishable from ours.

I've added a line answering your question, Gazzien.
