Am I the only one that fucking hates the manufactured emotions of the holidays?  Like, Labor Day and President's Day are cool.  Any excuse for a 3-day weekend is fine by me.  But Christmas and Valentine's Day really piss me off.  Maybe it's just because I hate pretending to be part of a family with the assholes I'm related to.  Also, Christmas movies are fucking terrible and Christmas music is worse.  Ritual gift exchanges between adults are stupid and unnecessary.

Can we make a "no more Trump links" rule?  Because the more we click on stuff like that, the more the media pays attention to him, the more power he gets.

After years of waiting, I'm too broke to see Star Wars next week (as a big lifelong fan, this is a more crushing blow to my psyche than it might appear).

Mental health institutions piss me off to no end.  It's all fucking pseudoscience and placebos.  Like, my brother has a brain tumor and my mother has had chronic migraines her entire life and I have a mental illness, yet no one has ever given me an x-ray or brain scan or whatever to look at my head to see if there's something physically wrong in there.  Or maybe a blood test, to see what vitamins I'm deficient in.  I mean, is it too much to ask for you to have some real evidence before you give me an official diagnosis and proscribe me a drug?  Evidence other than the self-report of a mentally ill person?  Send me home with one of those FitBit things for a week, monitor my sleep and exercise habits, body temp, heartrate.  Maybe stick a mic in there so you can hear the sorts of things that are going on in my life.  There is a wealth of information you could be gathering to get an accurate depiction of what is wrong and how to correct it, but no one uses it.  And if your drugs take a fucking month or two to show results, maybe they aren't actually effective.  I mean, a lot can happen in a month that would make it seem like it's working, not the least of which is the placebo effect, or hey, maybe my circumstances get better and I feel better.  And then you chalk it up as the drug "working" so you can milk me for drug money for the next several years... Some of them have actual addictive properties, and you wonder why people are different when they come off of them.  Hint: it's not because it was "working."  Oh, and fucking therapy?  What a goddamn joke.  Please, take my money so I can vent about my problems to you and you can give me platitudes like a goddamn fortune-cookie dispenser.  Oh, you want me to come up with my own personal treatment plan and stick to it?  If I could actually do that I wouldn't need someone with a fucking degree in psychology.  Oh yeah, give me a fucking handout to read, as if I didn't already know what negative thoughts are.  And what if I need something more invasive than a simple "show up every week for an hour and bitch"?  And not something so invasive as locking me in a secure hospital wing where you're simultaneously treated like a child and a danger to everyone around you.  That will make me feel better about myself, won't it?  Doesn't anyone make house calls?  If I don't show up to an appointment maybe it's because I'M MENTALLY ILL AND COULDN'T GET OUT OF BED TODAY.  Or treat it like physical therapy where the therapist comes up with the treatment plan and we do mental exercises to strengthen my brain back into something useful?  FUCK.  I shouldn't even be surprised.  The system is set up so that they're incentivized to keep me coming back for more drugs and weekly therapy sessions until I either die by own hand or say "FUCK THIS FUCK YOU FUCK ALL THE THINGS I DON'T NEED YOU AND NEVER DID."

One thing to keep in mind about candidates like Trump is that it can be a clever bait-and-switch: You put somebody up there so outrageously horrifying that anything less abjectly terrible seems like a massive concession.

I don't think anyone is "running" Trump.  The GOP establishment is just as horrified, and it's pushing them to the left (which seems the opposite direction they would like to go).  I also doubt his sincerity, but his supporters are very sincere and that's what's terrifying.

It's entirely possible that most of the conservative support for Trump is just to make things like de-funding Planned Parenthood and attacking gay rights under the guise of "religious freedom" look more reasonable by comparison to the idea of turning the US into a glorified pillow fort with a sign out front that reads: "No Mex'c'ns or A-rabs." :rolleyes

Fixed that for you.

Two interesting viewpoints on "the Trump phenomenon": "The GOP is imploding"
vs.
"It's not a real movement"

it'd be better to break it down for crafting XP

Not a thing in PF.

Min/Max 3.x / Re: [3.5] Druid vs Cleric, which is "better"?
« on: December 07, 2015, 04:07:42 AM »
From an objective, holistic standpoint, Druid is a "better" class.  In a low-level, low-op, low-wealth, core-only game the Druid reigns supreme...at high-level, high-op, high-wealth, with all game material available, the Druid is still in the top 3.  Level 1? Druid is THE most powerful class.  In a jail cell, naked as the day you were born? Druid is the best; no spellbook or holy symbol required.  Everyone spends half their feats on Toughness?  Yup, Druid still comes out on top.  Core-only, no PrCs?  Eh, toss-up.  Druid is more versatile, at least.  Level 20?  Toss-up.  Slight cleric advantage at high-op.  High-op, with everything?  Toss-up.  Slight Cleric advantage at high levels.

I don't know what there is to say about it, really.  Unfortunately, with conservative hatemongering and unwillingness to pass any kind of gun control, this sort of thing is already common and will probably get even more common.

"Judge me from a size, do you?"  Magic is separate, and relates to the power of the caster rather than the size of the caster.  It makes sense that way to me.  I wouldn't want the small races to be utterly screwed on damage all the time for everything, nor would i want giants and dragons to do more magic damage from size when they already do more physical damage.

Siege weapons, however, are physical and mundane weapons.  Their damage obviously scales with size.  Think of them as a creature with a natural weapon.  The size of the object is the size of the creature, the damage is based on the creature having that natural weapon at that size.

Did you know that Siege weapons are special weapons, especially poorly designed?
They are categorized by item's description, not by size, meaning that a Ballista, Light, is Large Size by design, not by use.
When comparing siege weapons to any kind of other weapon, you will notice that the damages are only stated once instead of twice (for Medium and Small), just like bonuses or effect. That's because their damages are fixed and not based on their size (just like special ammunition, or sneak attack).

So, let's get to the point: with Shrink Item you can get yourself a really, really small weapon doing a lot of damage.
Use your siege alchemist and get crazy!

Umm...I think it would just resort to the regular size chart and go down 4 steps.

I already have an isolationist xenophobe but I want at least two more that I can play the party off of because one of my pc's plans on running, bless his heart.

The Militant Imperialist (to counter the isolationist) and the Richest Guy in Town.

Me: all of the above, except i'm unemployed.

Me too; that job is a volunteer gig.

Besides, I was about a month and a half early. :lmao

So then it's your own fault :p  Maybe next time you'll listen to your doctor and stay in there until your prescheduled due date.

Come to think of it, before we give advice someone should ask what kind of government/society exists now, and how many different pols do you need?

I believe the answers to your question are "autocratic oligarchy" and "at least 2."

This election was spurred by the untimely deaths of three out of the 6 members of the council. I already have an isolationist xenophobe but I want at least two more that I can play the party off of because one of my pc's plans on running, bless his heart.
I think the word would be autocracy. Everything has a monarchy feel though, one of the members that died was the last in a line of council members. One of the members (the only permanent elven resident) has been there since the council's inception. I've been kicking the phrase "rolling coin economics" around and made it clear that the money is actually small cubes of iron made to look like precious metals.

In another interesting development, it seems an Anti-SWATting bill has been put forward. Pretty making a fake 911 call is already illegal though.

Or the SWAT team could, you know, NOT kick the doors in with weapons drawn based on a single anonymous phone call?

Since when can you craft a wondrous item (magic item) and a scroll (also a magic item) in the same day? Did I just never see that rule?

Now that you mention it, I don't think it's RAW.  I think it's just something I've always gotten away with.

Any chance of convincing your DM to allow you to take 3 levels of a mundane class to bring your HD & saves up to par with your level 7 party? If so, I'd suggest doing so... perhaps take Artficer as those 3 levels just to make that crafting even easier... er wait... is Artificer available in PF?

There's a 3rd party version
