Gaming Advice / Fused armor destroyed: what happens?
« on: November 14, 2013, 10:37:38 PM »
At 8th level, a bone knights bonecraft armor fuses to their body. What happens when this armor is sundered or disintegrated?

Min/Max 3.x / Dungeoncrashing Dervish
« on: September 10, 2013, 09:46:15 PM »
This was originally an idea posted by someone for the Iron Chef contest that had Dervish as the Secret Ingredient.

The basic idea is using Knockback+ Dervish Dance to move with the enemy around the battlefield after you bull rush them. You don't technically need dungeon crasher but it's awesome for bull rushers so why not add it in (plus helps for Dervish prereqs)?

Any ideas on how to take advantage of this combo? You'll probably want to finish Dervish to get maximum number of Dervish Dances per day. Since you're doing that, Leap Attack helps to take advantage of the bonus to Jump checks the Dervish gets. Any other thoughts?

Gaming Advice / Any PRC's like this?
« on: August 30, 2013, 09:03:32 PM »
Are there any PRC's that fit these requirements?:

Has Skill requirements that can be met by level 4 or less

A BAB requirement of +3 or less.

Can be entered by Shadowcasters if it requires casting

Advances casting and only loses two Caster Levels (at the most).

Has full or 3/4 BAB.

So far, the only class I could find that meets these requirements is the Ruby Knight Vindicator (if you use the adaptation that makes the Shadowcaster divine)

While I like the concept of dragonmarks, the execution always seemed a little lacking. Why do the dragonmarked houses hold so much power when the abilities of their dragonmarks really aren't anything special compared to what a sorcerer or wizard can do? E6 helps with this problem by restricting the levels of spells spellcasters can gain access to but also stunts dragonmarks since the better ones require prerequisite ranks in skills that you can't take at 6th level.

I'm wondering if it might make more sense if you removed the skill prerequisites for Dragonmarks in E6 Eberron? Obviously the players would have to agree to not take them since that would make them unequal in power to the non-dragonmarked characters. Still, lesser and greater dragonmarks can give characters with NPC classes access to 4th and 5th level spells! Why does House Orien hold so much power? Because some of its members can use Overland Flight or Teleport! Why does House Cannith hold so much power? Because some of its members can use minor and major creation! The least marks are still kind of crappy but NPC's with them have he potential to get better marks. What makes this even more special is that the NPC's that have these feats don't have to be exceptional. They can take the feats while being in NPC classes and having crappy stats.

This rule also helps justify the fear of aberrant dragonmarks as well. Imagine a first level human commoner in some remote village getting the least and lesser aberrant dragonmark feats. He would be able to use Charm Person twice per day and Bestow Curse once per day. That's actually pretty scary.

And of course there are the many feats that give more uses, options, and abilities for your dragonmarks.

I'm pretty sure there are problems with this idea though. Feel free to point them out.

EDIT: I put this in Talespinning since I was primarily thinking in terms of the fluff impact on E6 Eberron. Mods, feel free to move it if you don't think it fits.

Gaming Advice / Touch of the Shadow Sun + Stormguard Warrior?
« on: July 13, 2013, 06:31:42 PM »
The Touch of the Shadow Sun ability of the Shadow Sun Ninja PRC allows you to deal negative energy damage equal to your base unarmed damage + your Wis modifier. If you use the Combat Rhythm tactical option of the Stormguard Warrior feat before using the TotSS ability, does the +5 damage that is added next round to the ability count as "base unarmed damage" (so would you deal 5 or more points of negative energy damage with your unarmed strike than normal or would it be lethal/nonlethal damage)?

Both of these builds were made by JanusJones on the old WOTC boards. I can't find them by way of the WayBack Machine though. All I know was that The Casio was a warforged and that Oddjob was an evil factotum. Does anyone remember anything else about them?

Min/Max 3.x / What to do with 500 ft of reach
« on: June 05, 2013, 03:39:04 PM »
Drunken Master 4 gives reach equal to the length of the improvised weapons you wield. A Spool of Endless Rope gives you 500 ft of rope (technically you could take a bunch of mundane ropes and splice them together with the Use Rope skill and get even longer lengths. However, I'm not sure if that counts as a single improvised weapon). Sadly though, you can't enchant it as the rope from the spool isn't masterwork  :(.

So what can we do with this enormous amount of reach?

Min/Max 3.x / Good PRC for variant Casu Marzu?
« on: June 03, 2013, 12:02:14 PM »
I'm working on creating a variant build for Case Marzu build ( http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=12990102&postcount=151) that was entered for Iron Chef: Shadow Sentinel. The build is quite MAD and I was looking to reduce that. However I've hit a bit of a roadblock.

My first step was to get rid of the ranger and Impure Prince levels. This reduces Wis dependency and also gives less skills (which in turn lessens the pressure to be a skillmonkey. This means less Int is required). Combat reflexes probably isn't worth it so we can safely reduce Dex as well. So now I'm down to 3 stats (Str, Con, and Cha). Since both Shadow Sentinal and Shadowcaster have Intimidate as a class skill, points into that would be good.

Now the only problem is what to replace Impure Prince with. Ideally it would be something that can advance shadowcaster casting, has Intimidate as a class skill, and has full BAB. Is their any PRC like that? I'm fine with Dragon content.

Off Topic Fun / Missing posters :(
« on: May 19, 2013, 10:16:36 PM »
After about half the time after the move from the old boards to here, I started noticing that a lot of posters seemed to be missing. I know that Gnorman is just busy with juggling school and work and that Akal Saris just got back to the optimization scene after a few years of absence. Jaronk is moderately active over on Gitp. Dictum Mortuum posted on his blog last month.   But what about people like Carnivore and  SolEiji and Lycanthromancer and Tshern and X-Codes and Caelic and many more who were extremely active on the old boards and when the new board was new? They haven't been active since last year! These guys are all great optimizers. Where did they go? Does anyone know? This has been gnawing at my mind for a while.

Gaming Advice / Imp Grab into the ground?
« on: May 16, 2013, 10:05:46 AM »
If a character with the Earth Dreamer PRC is using its earth glide ability to move underground and then uses Imp Grab to pull an enemy into its square while underground what happens?

The Ghostwalker PRC (from Sword and Fist) gains the ability to Shadow Walk (as per the spell). The character travels at a rate of 1 mile in (11- number of Ghostwalker levels) minutes. Therefore, at the 10th Ghostwalker level the time is 1 mile in 1 minute. However, the Legacy Champion can advance it to 1 mile in (negative number) minutes. My question is: what happens?

Gaming Advice / Ways to become a devil?
« on: February 06, 2013, 08:29:22 PM »
The Mark of X feats from the FCII seem really cool and unique. Unfortunately one of the prequisites is being a devil. I know a lot of ways to become an Outsider but I'm not sure how to become a devil specifically. Obviously I'd prefer an option that doesn't suck (like taking a devil monster class for example).

Help?

Min/Max 3.x / Optimizing an Eye of the Xanathar
« on: February 06, 2013, 08:26:43 PM »
Recently re-found this cool little Prc (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/prc/20061107b). It seems really flavorfull and you don't really lose anything much by going into it from rogue. Some thoughts on it:

It's really MAD. It needs Wisdom for its perception and eye ray abilities and Charisma for save DC's. Wisdom is not that great a stat to boost (for rogues). Is dipping monk and taking Ascetic rogue worth it (obviously taking the invisible fist ACF as well)?. Does anyone know of any Wis to x abilities that would benefit a rogue?

Since you have to take Iron Will why not take the feat Hardened Criminal? It fits thematically and more importantly allows you to take 10 on any checks  for one skill with it even under conditions when taking 10 would be impossible (oh and it also makes you immune to Intimidate). UMD anyone?

Since you need Charisma for save DC's and since you're taking ranks in Intimidate to get in, you might as well invest in some fear optimization. The only rogue friendly Prc's I can remember that specialize in fear are scarlet corsair, dread pirate, and avenging executioner. Do you guys think they would be good options?

Would the various SLA feats be worth it for this build?

Hmmm...what about spelltheif? That would allow you to steal unlimited uses of your eye-rays.

Thoughts on the PRC?

Min/Max 3.x / Best savage progressions in e6?
« on: October 26, 2012, 10:20:53 PM »
One of the things I really like about e6 is the opening up of optimization opportunities that would be closed off in a normal game (being able to play a drider and not suck for example).  The savage progressions in SS are mostly crap but I was wondering if any might become great in e6  :???.

Off Topic Fun / Your Pet Peeves
« on: October 14, 2012, 09:32:09 PM »
Exactly what it says on the tin  :).

I absolutely hate it when people say to another person (that they believe to be wrong on something) "you do know that [INSERT INFORMATION HERE]". No I do not know that. If I knew it I wouldn't be SAYING IT IN THE FIRST PLACE :fo.

It just comes as so smug and snooty. I always imagine that the people saying it are saying it in a "valley girl" type of accent.

That's it really. More may come to me later but I am not a naturally peevy person  :).

What are your pet peeves?
