The Dark Eye

Anyone have any experience with this game?  It strikes me as an intriguing system, mostly because it just seems to be so different from Warhammer and D&D.

Which edition? But the main difference to DnD is that (almost) everything is a skill (each weapon category and each spell has its own skill). Magic is still better than everything else.

I found out about it through the Drakensang video game, so I'm going to guess 4th.  Also, I'm kinda OK with magic doing it better in Dark Eye, because each and every individual spell is it's own skill and keyed to it's own set of attributes, compared to general Talents with broad applications or weapon Talents that can be supplemented with Special Abilities, in addition to an even further expanded applicability with these skills when we look at how the system handles related skills.

So, yeah... Magic does it better, but you pay a lot for the privilege of being better.
