Dark Sun of Athas
« on: April 12, 2014, 07:22:03 AM »
Dark Sun has always been my favourite of the DnD settings, but (despite reading all the books) I've never had the chance to play a game in the setting. I'm curious what the interest in the setting on these boards is like, and if there'd be a chance of getting a game set up here.

For those curious about what Dark Sun is, head on over to Athas.org for the official 3.5 rulebooks. It's one of those second party official settings that used to be owned by TSR but WotC spun out rather than deal with themselves.

Another place to find Dark Sun material is in Dragon Magazines #319, 315, and 351, and in Dungeon Magazine #110/Polyhedron #169.

And yes, I would be interested in playing in a Dark Sun game.

Well, that's two of us. And I think I have those magazines around here somewhere, although not entirely sure.

I think there's also a whole long series of adventures that starts at a low level as well, which is handy for a DM who isn't feeling overly creative.

I ran a Dark Sun campaign once, in that I transported some lazily contented players' characters there as a sort of wake-up call and put some fear back into them. It worked, and was fun as a DM to use. Lots of hazards and dangers at your disposal. :)

It's certainly sounding like we could have enough players for a game... which means we need someone with a sadistic streak to DM it. Which really just means we need someone to DM it  :lmao

We've got players... who's the DM? Cause I think one campaign is enough for me, especially as DS is a setting I've never run before.

I've GMed Athas before, and could certainly do so again, assuming you're willing to put up with me.

Given I've never played with you before, could you clarify why I should be worried ? :P

I believe I'm a bit late, but I'd be willing to play.

Well, I think it would just boil down to how large a party the DM is willing to tackle, since there's just about a large party's worth. Six people or so, by my count.

Although there's always the chance the whole party ends up as Defilers, because they're awesome.  :lmao

xD That's true.

... I kinda want to try a Templar/Shadow Templar/Swiftblade, to be honest...

I don't know Pious Templar off the top of my head, but considering that Shadow Templar needs your SK to die...

Revolutionaries against a sorcerer king? Didn't we do this story already? :P

Of course, it does make a huge deal when the story is set, whether there's the free city or not.

We appear to have lost our prospective DM for this. Or at least, he hasn't posted in several days :/

Anyone else feeling kind hearted and interested in Dark Sun?
