As the monkey lands on a particular spot in the midst of the tunnel, the floor between the monkey and the party gives way, a ten foot wide chasm opening up as the trap is triggered. It collapses inwards with a loud roar, one that echoes up and down through the caverns. A quick glance over the edge reveals that it is almost certainly 15 feet deep, if not 20, and spans the tunnel wall to wall.

Hanner strokes his beard and adjusts his hat, then turns to the rest of the party with a twinkle in his eye.

"And who among us has the utter gall
to test their legs, and leap their way across?
My words can speed your flight - you should not fall,
and you can bring a rope. We'll find a hawse."

Belegol gives Hanner an awkward and confused look.  "...hawse?"

Well... I could summon another creature, perhaps an owl this time - to fly across, carrying a rope end - but I do not know that I would be able to have it successfully secure it on the other side.

"That isn't an issue. I am one with beastkind- and I can alter my form and carry the rope over. Getting the rest of you over is the true issue."

Vidar takes the rope. Then, concentrating for a moment, his form begins to shift. He shrinks considerably in scale as feathers sprout from, and then conceal, the furry hide of his natural form. In the matter of a minute, the transformation is complete, and in Vidar's place stands a hawk which takes off across the pit. Safely across on the other side, he quickly returns to his original shape.

"See? Not so difficult."

Lilith had been staring at the gap for what felt like months. It reminded her of the gap in her abilities. After such thought, something suddenly seemed to click in her mind and she felt like that gap was now a little smaller.

She positioned herself at the edge of the pit and gripped the edge, lowering herself as far as possible. A fall of ten or fifteen feet wouldn't be so bad. It would hurt, but it wouldn't kill her. She let go, hitting the ground making a light "uff!" sound. She really wasn't the athletic type...

Feeling only minor pain in her legs, Lilith decides to save her energy. She waited for Vidar to lower to rope, grabbed it, and began climbing up.

As the heroes make their way along the short remainder of the tunnel, the air ahead of them begins to glow with a soft blue luminescence.

Lilith looks around, using her hooded lantern to illuminate parts of the room.
"There's likely to be some silver in that hollow from the looks of the wall. Given the cables, it might have been in recent use, too. Might be a clue."

"We knew there would be silver, of course. Cables? I don't know their relevance to mining. Then again, I don't know mining very well, either. Let's investigate."

Vidar journeys further in, checking out the western wall and the cables which hang from the hollow within it. Finding anything of relevance, however, would likely fall to someone else as he had no idea what to be looking for.

As Vidar begins his approach to the cables, a small host of kobolds pop up above the lip, crossbows already at the ready. The four at the front immediately fire at the Totem Master, their accuracy rather surprising for a race with such a poor reputation. Above the noise of bowstrings can be heard the shouting of a thin, reedy voice, but it's shouting in a language that the heroes cannot understand. Despite that, it's possible to tell they sound rather frantic and disturbed, an edge of panic tinging their speech.

Lilith, on the other hand, is still out of range and out of sight of the kobolds, and so safe for the moment.

The kobold leader can be heard giving orders, but for the moment stays safely out of sight over the ledge.

Vidar makes a run for the safety of cover behind one of the larger stalagmites, having decided it wasn't worth taking on all of those kobolds head-on all at once.

Lilith sees her friend run out of her healing range as quickly as possible and curses under her breath.  She takes a deep breath and dashes to a safe spot closer to him.

One of the visible kobolds risks a potshot at Vidar, although it skips off of the stone pillar shielding him. The other three can be seen frantically sawing away at the ropes with daggers, with occasionally the glimpse of another snout or two from behind them.
