Remnant Organizations

The League of Alborard

Remnant magic is so often overlooked that it is only natural for remnant casters to try to find groups of people who understand them and share their appreciation for remnant magic. It is out of this need that, after the death of Alborard the Sage, the first great Remnant Mage, his disciples founded the League of Alborard, devoted to advancing the lives of remnant casters.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Skills: Spellcraft 4 ranks
Remnant Casting: Able to cast remnants from a class list or see Special below
Special: Non-remnant casters can become members if another member vouches for their genuine concern for the well-being of remnant casters.

The League has factions all over the world, which communicate by Message spells and remnants. A DC 10 Knowledge (local) or Gather Information check in a popular area should be sufficient to find the branch nearby, if one exists. Going there and declaring the wish to join, along with fulfilling the entry requirements, will guarantee entry into this inviting order.

League of Alborard Benefits

Members of the League are generally the most knowledgeable producers of remnant items, so the connections that membership brings can be helpful when acquiring them. League of Alborard members can purchase any craftable remnant item from other members at 75% market price. Remnant items can also be sold at 75% market price to other members of the League.

Missions and Duties

League of Alborard members are expected to stand up for a fellow remnant caster whenever she is being ridiculed or is unfairly denied access to magical resources and institutions.  League members occasionally protest and put on displays of their magical abilities to increase public awareness of remnant magic as a legitimate style of magic.

Occasionally, an evil remnant caster gives remnant magic as a whole a bad name in the eyes of the common people and traditional magic community, and the League of Alborard will organize a large adventuring party to vanquish her, while the rest of the League is put to the task of conveying to the public that the evil caster's actions do not speak for all of remnant magic.

The Shadowed Order of the Magicians

The Shadowed Order of the Magicians is a global sect that admits only remnant-casting Magicians. It has very little purpose other than to forge connections between normally isolated magic-users and to perpetuate Magicians' reputation for secretive mystery.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Class: Magician level 1

There is no way to find the Shadowed Order. Spread a rumor around a large enough town that you wish to join their ranks, and they will find you. In black hoods covered with strange, silver runes, they will approach you and ask you to follow them. At the end of a neglected allyway, they will draw your attention to an imperceptibly tiny silver glyph scrawled on one of the walls, touch the glyph, and mutter an incantation. A large black portal will expand outward from the rune, and you will be directed forth through it, into Alakaz, the base of the Order.

Shadowed Order Benefits

Members of the Order are able to learn secrets from other Magicians, granting them +1 to the maximum value Magician's Secret they can learn. In addition, they receive a vial of dust that, when broken as an immediate action, will cause them to vanish in a puff of smoke and reappear in Alakaz, unharmed. This magical vial is free for new members, but once it is expended, it costs 10,000 gp to buy a new one from the Order.

Missions and Duties

Each member must contribute 1% of their earnings (from adventuring, their profession, etc.) to the Shadowed Order of the Magicians, although what the group actually spends the money on, like everything about it, is shrouded in mystery. Other than that, the members are largely independent and are seldom called on for special missions.

Alakaz

Alakaz is a small demiplane created ages ago by a powerful Magician whose name remains unknown to this day. A single grand building fills its entire space, and only foggy darkness can be seen outside its large windows. The building is full of halls with domed ceilings framed with torches, and along the walls is a row of silver runes that open gates to every corner of the world. The building also stores a massive library of hidden knowledge on all things magical. Its resources are free to use for all members, providing another benefit to joining the Order.
