Rescue at Rivenroar (Game Thread Continued)

The motes of biting lights the spirit charged missile turns into, do little to harm the Hobgoblin as he swats them away.

Moving toward the iron spiral staircase, Res draws a bead on Tulugaq and unleashes another arrow at the warlock which past to shatter on the wall.

Tulugaq returns fire with curses, corrupting the Archer's thoughts and then burning his soul with cold radiance.

Dunor flies up from behind cover and takes another swipe at the hobgoblin archer. Though his hit does not connect, the threat remains all the same.

Res growls at Dunor for cutting off its escape but fends off his attacks with his bow.
 
Shandien leaps onto the low sarcophagus and attacks Res with a rumbling stroke of his blade that culminates in a thunderous boom but the magic is deflected aside with the blade by the frantic defense of the hobgoblin.

Peeking back around the corner to see that the hobgoblin was heavily engaged - and no more reinforcements seemed to be forthcoming, Galadren switched back to the offense.  Dashing into the chamber, he sets up by one of the sarcophagi, and leans out to snap off a shot at the hobgoblin archer after carefully sizing him up.

Seeing allied faces rushing past him, the Halfling relinquish his hold on the storm, letting it abate.
He re-gather his magical focus into his abdomen, stepping around the corner swiftly, the sole of his shoe making a thunderous note as he stops the ground.

As Theo lands, thunder batters down on the hobgoblin bowman.

The bowman tries to rush a gap between Shandien and Dunor, but realizes the feint too late and runs right into a spinning blade. Slumping to the floor the light leaves his eyes.

In the aftermath you notice an alcove with two marble alters with low candles burning. The stone sarcophagi look to have heavy lids that look so far undisturbed, either the hobgoblins have not been here long, they never thought to open them, or perhaps they were told not to open them.

There is also a hole in the floor in the rooms northern corner.

You also notice an inscription along the walls. It repeats itself every 10 feet or so. It is in an older form of common now used. It reads;

“Here lie the Rivenroars until the Day of the Black Sun. If you seek their monument, look at the lands around you."

Dunor picks up the fallen Hobgoblin's longbow and looks it over. He did not expect it to be of fine make, though it had put enough holes in him to be worth consideration. He decided not to disturb the sarcophagi- he had been seeing enough of the dead lately.

He looked over to the corner, where Dalanath peered down the hole. The northerner walked over to check it out himself, unsure whether there was any significance to it.

As Dunor approaches the pit a horrid stench fills his nostrils. It gets worse as he gets closer and is definitely coming from the pit. It sinks too deep to see the bottom but its clear that this pit served many disposal purposes for the hobgoblins. Perhaps some light would shed insight into why the deceased rogue would indicate looking down there.

Galadren is dexterous enough to extract the hobgoblin arrow from his chest and the goblin bolt from his arm without having to resort to the time-honored tradition of removing projectiles by pushing them all the way through and then breaking off the barbed heads.  Still, the experience wasn't pleasant and leaves the elf out of breath for a few moments while he fishes out some bandages from his supplies and wraps up his chest wound.  Feeling better afterwards, Galadren clears his throat and hooks his thumb back towards the corridor they had traversed with great difficulty.

"There's a painting in the room connected to that corridor.  Dunno if it's magical, but it was glowing and shedding light, and that's usually not normal.  There was a set of doors leading west in there too.  Where do you guys want to go next?"

Without waiting for confirmation from his allies, Galadren goes over to the nearby doors and listens carefully.  (Doors in K14 & K15).

Galadren grunts, and then since he hadn't heard anything else on the other side, decides to take a chance to determine whether these were garden-variety rats that were scared of everything larger than them, or giant monstrous rats that would eat anything they could sink their teeth into.

"Hey in there!  GET AWAY!"  Galadren growls, and none too softly, while he bangs on the door and rocks it, as if something large and hungry for rats is about to tear the door off its hinges.  Then, he listens again.
