Possible trouble
« on: February 04, 2017, 07:13:14 PM »
I clicked on a link to a board page and Avast gave me a virus/malware warning.  May be a false positive as it has not happened again.

just popped up as q.dreniq.com.  Anyone know who they are?  A search says they're adware.

Two quick questions

Running any Addons/Tools that insert adds?
I've had a jackass at work add some when I wasn't paying attention before.

Are you connecting directly to the board?
q.dreniq is a pishing site, double check your auto-fill is typing in www.minmaxboards.com/index.php into the url directly instead of another url that pushes you here afterwards or relying on search engines.

I've been out a few days but the board has been running fine for me today. I suppose you can take that with a grain of salt through, Nan had some connections problems here recently while it worked fine for me.

Yup.  In the index at the top of this thread I link to the pages where I've posted images on photobucket (it's for an Arkham Horror expansion).  One of those links sets off the antivirus.

edit: ran various scans, came up empty.

I've never had that happen before. What exactly was the context for this, where and what was the link?

http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=1010.0  In this thread Im linking to pics of homebrew cards for Arkham Horror on photobucket.  In the index I've linked to the posts that have those pics in them.  It's clicking on those links that set off the warning, especially the Ally Cards, but it doesn't always do it consistently.

Sounds like some of the wikia direct linked images from braininthejar might be getting redirected sometimes from their hosting source. Not much we can do about it other than remove those images and suggest that they be rehosted though .

It's unlikely to be photobucket's problem or there'd be a bigger shitstorm.

Yeah, Veekie probably nailed it. Those links have a problem. It seems Braininthejar on the last page is just pulling images off google search, a lot of blogs/wikis use ad-based platforms and I can't imagine a website named "derpicdn", which tailors exclusive to my little pony porn, is going to have the best track record.
