I would say that wouldn't really fit - the restrictions at the start were beginner guide only options.

Also everyone would try to kill you because you're a monster.

For this game, I would like to stay grounded and within the bounds of the PHB. In another game I might be more open to wacky stuff, but here I'd like the silliness to stay at "gnome clown" and below.

Fair 'nuff.

Remind me which character creation rules we're going with real quick so I can get that sheet started?

[ peanut gallery ]

suggestion for Kuroi's Paladin in Basic could go
Elf and pick Shocking Grasp as a healy sub get-away ability
Fighter 1 pick Protection , and for Con save
Cleric 1 pick Guidance , and for general paladin-y-ness
then either Fighter +X or Cleric +X depending
requires minor attention to specific frontline tactics
aim for 8-14-14-14-14-8 stats, whether rolls pointbuy or array
Dex for +fighter, Wis for +cleric, Con 16 at some point after

back edit for Kuroi ---- no worries, it was worth thinking about.
