Jimmy glares at the others, then sighs.  What the hell did he get himself into?  "I'm Jimmy."

Robert gives the newcomers a polite nod. "Robert Jenkins," he says, finally taking Eric's proffered hand and shaking it. "And perhaps the proper way to induct these gentlemen into our little dinner society would be to go on another camping trip? Or, barring that, a more thorough introduction from the start?" He tips Constable Jones a pointed look.

Harry gives a snicker at Robert's comment, shrugging at Jones after a stiff look. "Both of you should know me by now; Constable Harry Dresden. Just call me Harry though."
I'm here and ready to keep confusing the hell out of everyone I meet.

"IF I had given you a thorough introduction, would you have agreed to go with me?"

"The quiet gentleman in the corner is Will McQuillen.  We would also have Thomas Martin with us, but he has apparently disappeared.  Jim perhaps you would like to give those of us who weren't present for your conversation with Constable Dresden a more detailed story of your encounter and the reason that brought you here?"

At the mention of his name, Will gives both Jimmy and Eric a nod. He turns to Jones and in a soft voice, though still audible by the rest of the room, he tells Jones: "So... we're picking up stray dogs now? How will this help our cause? We're in enough trouble as it is. Do you even KNOW who they are, what they can do, who they work for?"

"Are we leaving town, or something? I heard Robert make mention of a 'camping trip', or something.

Who is after us (other than everyone we're not supposed to be talking to)?"

"One of them is being employed by someone unknown to us.  I'm hoping a thorough chat with him will give us some idea of who or what, especially since he seems to be getting used as a pawn.  No offense."

Jim shrugs, resigned to tell his story again.  "I heard a scuffle so I went to see what was going on.  A big smelly fisherman, strong as a bull, took down two thugs and told me he'd pay me to find Thomas Martin.  He told me not to let the 'wrong people' find out.  As the law is always the wrong people this guy is going to try to rip my head off.  I was supposed to talk to my landlord when I found out more.  I didn't break any law, I didn't do anything wrong!"

Jim laughs.  "He was down at the docks and he smelled like fish.  Sounds like a fisherman to me."

Jones looks visibly pale

"Did you see him?  Specifically did you make out any of his features at all?"

Jim gives Jones a funny look.  "He was in the shadows.  All I know is that he smelled like a fish and was strong enough that he could give me a licking."

"What you met was not a fisherman.  What did he offer you to find Mr. Martin?"

"You think he's still there? Waiting for Mr. Martin?

And what do you mean by 'what you met', and not who you met?"

"There is ... no easy way to explain that."

After which Constable Jones brings our two new adventurers up to speed by giving them the same speech he gave the rest of you (which for the benefit of the new guys can be found here: http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=515.20;msg=3498  )

"So you are telling me that the man who hired me was some kind of monster?  Sure, he was stronger than me which is rare and she smelled bad but that doesn't mean he was a monster.  If I see a monster, I'll just punch it in the face and be done with it."  Jimmy chuckles.

"So, the 'fisherman' is from another world? Are we just supposed to kill these things? You said the door is already closed, right?"

"Just because the door is closed doesn't mean anything didn't walk through.  We have to find out why it opened and who is responsible.  Meaning at some point we will be asked to go to New York, and pray we actually make it there, let alone get back.  As for the fisherman, we aren't sure if he's from another world.  We aren't even sure who's side it's on.  Be very careful in your dealings with it, and be truthful.  I ... have a suspicion it won't mind you working with us, but if you lie about it, that will likely be the last time anyone sees you."
