Agita and veekie strike again
« on: February 26, 2013, 12:58:44 PM »
Just so you know, it's not like we made these because we like you guys or anything. We just happened to have too many ideas, okay? So don't read too much into it!

Thunderfoot Socks
Price (Item Level): 9,000 gp (12th)
Body Slot: Feet
Caster LeveL: 10th
Aura: Moderate, (DC 20) evocation
Activation:
Weight: 1 lb.

This legwear can take the form of tall boots, long socks reaching halfway up the thigh, or even leggings with gaiters. Their unifying feature is that they cover much of the leg, and grant their wearer extraordinary kicking power.

Thunderfoot socks increase their wearer's unarmed strike damage by one size category. For example, a fifth-level Monk wearing thunderfoot socks would deal 2d6 points of damage with her unarmed strike.
If you also wear a magic item that grants an enhancement bonus to your Strength, you may force any target you hit with an unarmed strike to make a Reflex save (DC 15 + your Str modifier). If the target fails this save, it is knocked flying 5 feet per point of Strength modifier you have away from you, in a direction of your choice, and falls prone. This movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity. If the target would hit another creature or object, in lands in the adjacent space nearest to you instead.

Kilt of Close Calls
Price (Item Level): 15,000 gp (14th)
Body Slot: Waist
Caster LeveL: 10th
Aura: Moderate, (DC 20) abjuration
Activation:
Weight:

This long, broad strip of cloth, silk, or leather is usually patterned or otherwise ornately decorated. It is wrapped around the waist, worn either over other legwear or by itself as a short skirt or kilt. In the latter case, glamours laid on the garment prevent its 'contents' from accidentally being revealed in the heat of battle.

A kilt of close calls grants its wearer a deflection bonus to armor class equal to their Charisma bonus.
If you also wear a magic item that grants an enhancement bonus to your Dexterity, a kilt of close calls additionally allows you to ignore up to your Dexterity modifier in penalties that would apply to your AC (such as from being prone or stunned).

Ribbons of the Charming Assailant
Price (Item Level): 16,000 gp (14th)
Body Slot: Head
Caster LeveL: 7th
Aura: Moderate, (DC 19) enchantment
Activation: Standard (command)
Weight:

These sets of decorative headwear can be of any shape or size, but always come in pairs. They always subtly draw an onlooker's attention towards the wearer's eyes, or towards themselves if the wearer's eyes are not visible.

Three times per day, the wearer of ribbons of the charming assailant can speak the item's command word or phrase and touch a target creature (requiring a melee touch attack if the target does not want to be touched). The target must then succeed on a Will save (DC 14 + wearer's Cha modifier) or be fascinated by the wearer for seven rounds. This is a mind-affecting charm effect.
If you also wear a magic item that grants an enhancement bonus to your Charisma, a target that fails its save is instead charmed, as the Charm Monster spell, for seven minutes.
If desired, the effects of ribbons of the charming assailant can be channeled through an unarmed melee attack instead. In this case, the attack roll is a regular attack (not a touch attack) and deals damage as normal, but is not considered a hostile action by the target. Any subsequent attacks or other threatening action will still break the effect.

Thunderfoot Socks need to make your target not provoke an AoO (or at least not from you) when knocked away.

Kilt of Close Calls seems underpriced, and maybe mandatory for a Charisma-based character (unless you're incorporeal or something). It's cheaper than a Ring of Protection +3, so it's strictly better (other than the item slot used, which is probably about equal) as long as you have a (very reasonable) Charisma of 16 or better. I'm also unsure about potentially counting Dex to AC twice. Then again, it's to mitigate AC penalties only, which don't actually show up too much unless you're a raging charger (a commonly Dex-less, Cha-less option), so that aspect is probably just fine.

True, they probably should. We weren't sure offhand if 3.5 had a provision against forced movement provoking, but now that I think about it, forced movement isn't even a defined system term, so it most certainly doesn't. (Let nobody tell you 4e did nothing right.)

We based the pricing off the Monk's Belt minus some token benefits, plus the extra benefit, but then we didn't remember that that one... doesn't allow armor. What if this one, similarly, disallowed armor? Alternatively, what do you feel would be a better price if it stays as is? Should it be more expensive than a full +5 ring?

What do you think of the pricing on the others? We based the Ribbons' price on a heavily tweaked calculation for an item that casts Charm Monster, but the Socks' price is pretty much just eyeballed.

Belated update borne of no longer being too lazy and Boz finally putting this in the compendium: I put in the clause against AoOs on the socks.
For the kilt, I'm thinking we'll just make it no longer work with armor, then it's closer to Monk's Belt (as was the intention when pricing it). It also meshes slightly better with the general implied flavor.
Monk's Belt:
-Stacks with deflection bonuses, being untyped
-Applies to all ACs, but does not function when paralyzed or similar
-Gives +1 AC over the Wis bonus
-Miscellaneous Monk benefits nobody cares much about, really
Kilt of Close Calls:
-Does not stack with other deflection bonuses
-Does apply when paralyzed, immobile etc
-Gives just Cha to AC
-But also gives the penalty-negating perk

That would seem to balance out the 15k more.
