I'm past the first quest location and moved on to Luskan. So far there's one main quest line and a few side quests (find my brother, fetch me some mushrooms, etc.).
Some quests have decision points like Mass Effect has where you can use a skill like Persuade to try and get the result you want. Otherwise it comes down to combat.
I found the controls clunky at first, but I'm starting to get used to it. The camera needs to be moved manually and rotated, which can be annoying, but you can pause combat to get the view you want.
NPC ai are pretty good at their jobs (Cleric heals, Wizard blasts, etc.). There have been times where they do dumb stuff like when I directed the Wizard to put a ranged foe to sleep, which he did, and followed that up with an attack to wake it back up again. You can micro-manage, but that requires you to constantly pause, direct, unpause, repeat.
Abilities and spells are cooldown based, with different levels and skill trees based on class.
