Title: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Skyrock on April 25, 2019, 02:53:52 PM
I've set the time a bit before midnight, in case anyone wants a word in private before the fey patron gets within earshot, cast spells or do any other special preparations.

Once everyone is satisfied, we will skip ahead.

Still running the default Presence Aura for the moment. I'm sparkly.

Lobinha and her team are mostly statted up, just still some gold to spend and missing basic utilities like rope and food and whatnot. Do have a lot of waterskins to trigger Lobinha's transformation.

Agree about the text formatting, it is extremely hard on the eyes. I had to mark it just to read it, and probably couldn't read it on mobile at all.

The free bonus feat was originally only intended for PCs, but if you all also want it for minions we can do so. Just keep in mind that monsters will then have a bonus feat, even if it is just something quick and crummy like Weapon Focus or one of the save boosters.

Also, didn't 60 years come with a mark of green hair? Which will of course be much more suspicious in Krevborna than in Touhou, so we could work out something more subtle. (Well, as subtle as a wolf-eared character with a menagerie of obvious supernaturals can be.)

Detect Magic plus Magic-Psionics Transparency plusher  not actually knowing anything about psionics but having an invocation that makes her count as trained in all knowledge skills...

I forgot to specify my weapon abilities for the mind blade and mind arrow. Will edit my post to include those as well.
At this point I've given up on looking for equipment, might just keep a lot of pocket change.

I'm giving in to popular demand - there will be no bonus feat for accepting random abilities. Instead, there will be a bonus feat for everyone. You get a feat, and you get a feat, and you get a feat! Everyone gets a feat!
You had specifically said "everyone" so fair's fair. :P

Knew I was forgetting something
What are you talking about, Lobinha clearly has green hair and speaks in green glowing text.

Would rather keep the forbidden school's original penalty, so how much for a hoodie that can cover her hair and ears (and the fairy's wings)?

Plus hey, judges do wear wigs, so how much for one that could do the trick?

There's more enemies than us, though, so buffing every enemy for the sake of getting minions a bonus feat each is not an equivalent exchange. :p
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: oslecamo on April 26, 2019, 09:19:51 PM
Speaking of buffing, between Lobinha and Anoitecer I'm granting the whole party +8 to initiative checks, then when combat breaks out we switch to the combat auras and give +1 to all allied attack rolls, +2 to all melee damage rolls, +6 to melee damage rolls against flanked enemies, and Lobinha has Tactics of the Wolf for another +3 damage against a flanked enemy (total of +11 damage per hit for everybody if we gank someone), while Nion and Nia the fairy commoners have Bolstering Voice (+2 to Will saves, +4 against fear aura) and Martial Spirit (heal 2 HP per melee hit aura) so I quite ike our odds even if enemies get a free weapon focus or Iron Will. :D
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Raineh Daze on April 26, 2019, 09:57:26 PM
I'm not sure what having that many buffs has to do with an extra feat, though. It just means if for some reason we're separated or something happens to minions (inevitable, it's Gothic Horror), then that's an extra bonus for the opposition.
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: skydragonknight on April 27, 2019, 07:31:43 AM
There's like ten of us counting minions? Seems fine with me. As long as cannon fodder minions don't get any other bonuses from CDTCT. That seems like something only named enemies should ever get. Since the bonuses are from 'just being that good' and vanilla mobs aren't.

Of which most are made of wet tissue paper though, and would drop dead if so much happens as an NPC adept sneezing a Burning Hands spell on them.

Would rather keep the forbidden school's original penalty, so how much for a hoodie that can cover her hair and ears (and the fairy's wings)?
I would strongly recommend that they disguise themselves when they enter civilization - especially as the nearest point of civilization is a radical theocracy full of witchfinders and inquisitors.

A Disguise check of 12 on a Take 10 should be enough to make it past routine observers (assuming Wis +/- 0, no Spot ranks and Take 10, and the -2 mod for disguising). All but Lobinha and Anoitecer would currently fail that treshold, so it might be a good idea to spread out some MW Disguise tools and consumable Disguise Kits.

Done, but I'll still ask if Lobinha and Anoitecer can't just bluff/diplo through checkpoints, or at least aid another the basic minions.

One that still possesses some giveaway traits that you're not quite human, and does nothing to hide that you have literally no stealth abilities to speak of. At least as a statue you can pretend to be scenery. :lmao

... This isn't the monster-feat alternate form, - it's a racial/class SLA Alternate form. I'm not sure if that still comes with giveaways.

(Being able to pretend to be a *human* paladin is subtle, by the standards of a 12ft tall angel statue)

Oh, right, angels get Change Shape.

I presume there is some sort of giveaway in your case because you have no CON score and are thus technically not alive. No pulse or something? But that's just my guessing.

Still, not alive and super high Charisma... you're clearly a vampire. :P

Osle's monster class refers back to the monster entry in the SRD, which in turn refers back to general Change Shape special ability: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#changeShape
Quote
The creature is effectively camouflaged as a creature of its new form, and gains a +10 bonus on Disguise checks if it uses this ability to create a disguise.
It's not foolproof, but a +10 bonus to Disguise is a very solid start. Casual low-level observers should be automatically fooled.
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Archon on May 04, 2019, 09:53:21 AM
... I assumed that that only mattered in the context of trying to do a specific disguise, since the idea of a transformation magic failing to effectively make you look like not-a-12ft-tall-statue did not occur to me.

I'm finally recovering and capable again to sit in front of a PC again for more than a short burst.

So what plan do you want to settle on?
You won't really need to carve your own elaborate wooden gift horse. None of you has the special attention of the Cardinalesse as far as you are aware, and late revelers entering Old Chancel are a routine transaction.

Before replying IC, sense motive to check if how much the guards are lying, in particular if we can sense the minimum level of bribery we'll need to actually get through. 19 from Anoitecer and 27 from Lobinha (http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=18922.msg342726#msg342726).

Also Lobinha setting up Presence Draconic Aura for possible Bluff/Diplomacy.
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Skyrock on June 19, 2019, 01:23:25 PM
As obvious too anyone but the most naïve farmboy, the guards are signalling their willingness to be bribed with the thinnest veneer of plausible deniability. The offer seems to be good.

Both Anoitecer and Lobinha have a good idea of what level of bribe would make the Diplomacy check how difficult:

DC 15: 10+gp per head (120+gp for the entire group)
DC 20: 5gp per head (60gp for the entire group)
DC 25: 2gp per head (24gp for the entire group)
DC 30: 0.1gp per head (1.2gp for the entire group)
DC 35: Attempt to get by for free
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: oslecamo on June 19, 2019, 07:56:36 PM
Since it seems like we're not being "threatened or distracted", can Lobinha and/or Anoitecer take 10 on diplomacy? With the Presence Draconic aura either could automatically reach the DC 30 treshold that way.
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Archon on June 20, 2019, 01:34:56 AM
... angel is non-trivially interested in just giving them the 120gp, but is willing to let someone else negotiate down to 10-25gp.
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: oslecamo on June 20, 2019, 02:14:31 AM
Worst case scenario, Lobinha has a +24 Diplomacy modifier with her draconic aura so she could negotiate down to 24 GP bribe even if she rolls a natural 1.

Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Raineh Daze on June 28, 2019, 10:04:30 AM
I mean, we could attempt dialogue with the super-prissy moral fanatics terrorising the person we need to speak to to force them into their little sect, complete with armed soldiers looking for a fight, but I have no social graces and apparently these sorts of people get in fights with the red guard a lot, so we can just pass the blame later on. They're not the ones important to our goal and less loose ends is easier to manager.

As for other people knowing you're there...

This is why I'm good at stealth. :lmao
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Archon on June 28, 2019, 10:10:44 AM
Sure. Then I guess Zadkiel is going to be taken by surprise by the violence as much as your targets, since escalating to direct combat in the middle of the street, vs. a bunch of nuns is not in her MO.

Expect a lecture at the end, I suppose.
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Skyrock on June 29, 2019, 01:59:17 PM
The alley isn't well-lit, and there are enough weeds and other clutter to get enough concealment to make it to the cart in lowest gear.

The nun (the only one who would have had a shot at spoiling the ambush) can't even spot the broad side of a barn, so Yuki gets a surprise round.

Everyone can already roll initiative for after the surprise round.

Fair. Okay, had something in mind but don't want to delay things any longer so go ahead and start us if you have all the Init.
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Skyrock on July 05, 2019, 06:21:38 PM
24: Zadkiel
20: Lobinha
18: [NPC] Nun + Teen Girls
17: [NPC] White Guards
16: Maxim
12: Yuki
10: Mist
7: Anoitecer

Yuki doesn't profit from Osle's Ini boost as she is too far away, but wouldn't have made a difference anyway.

I'm assuming that Lobinha will hold her action until Anoitecer can turn her into a Miss Wet T-Shirt candidate?
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: oslecamo on July 05, 2019, 07:01:09 PM
Even if the readied action can't be triggered before actual combat, Lobinha still has ranged attacks she would use before getting wet.
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Skyrock on July 05, 2019, 07:15:45 PM
The readied action would have been useful with telepathy, hand signals or the like to coordinate it inconspiciously with Yuki's ambush without spoiling the surprise round, but as it stands Anoitcer seems to be unable to see the forest for all the trees.

NPC round resolved, and none of them can hit the broad side of a barn.

Zadkiel and Yuki can take an AOO against the raven girl if they like (picking up an item triggers AOOs).

EDIT: Also forgot to add the fatigue penalty in the original roll of #1, but would have missed anyway.
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Archon on July 07, 2019, 08:37:47 AM
ooh, protagonist. Must keep alive; she's probably important.

I'd take a stand-still AOO against her if she tried to move, but I don't really want to *kill* people. And ... is it possibly going to be worth it to save it?

(Also, "Barely miss", Hah. I mean, given my heavy armor+NA+Shield, it's probably more like "Hits, goes through a joint,  but still bounces off harmlessly)
Title: Re: OOC Chapter 1
Post by: Skyrock on July 07, 2019, 08:50:32 AM
The raven girl won't move this round, moving up to the spot and picking up the mace has eaten all her movement allowance for this turn.

And the only thing that saved you from being hit was being Medium instead of Large. Regular-sized Zadkiel would have eaten blade.

Current status overview:

#2 31 damage taken - blind
#3 unhurt - blind, cursed (-2 penalty on attacks, saves, ability checks, skill checks and weapon damage)
#4 unhurt
Sophia unhurt - blind

Anoitecer would be next, and the last of that round.

As the encounter is already mostly solved, I will keep initiative order for simplicity's sake.

Status of the remaining guards:

#3 (facing Zadkiel + Yuki) unhurt - blind, cursed (-2 penalty on attacks, saves, ability checks, skill checks and weapon damage), fatigued
#4 (protecting the girls) unhurt

Maxim is next and may already act as I doubt that Lobinha's single readied attack will outright neutralize either guard.

I'm not even slightly interested in killing random girls. Where are you remotely getting that impression.

No need to kill them. Just put the fear of God angels into them.

See, I don't think that works with the crazy fanatic using a mace for corporal punishment and growing dragon scales. Just a hunch.

Your knowledges don't tell you anything about the scales (for that you would need Knowledge (arcane)), but about the relic: St. Haralamb is a faux saint employed by the Archdevil Menoch as a guise:
Quote
Menoch – The Apostate Minstrel
  • Inspires mortals to use religion to enrich or empower themselves at the expense of others
  • Portrayed as a young man or woman holding an ornate musical instrument
According to his false hagiography, St. Haralamb has first led out all the rats out of a small town in the Iron Principalities, and then all of the children to save them from a plague.
In fact, he has sold all of the sons to ogres as food, and all of the daughters to the Siyabid Caliphate as harem slaves.

Mist knows that the nun is on her road to turn into a dragonborn of the sin of Envy, strongly sprinkled with the sin of Hypocrisy.

From foolimg around with the holy symbol, Mist knows that the item grants additonal turning attempts per day, but only to followers of St. Haralamb / the Archdevil Menoch.

@Skyrock what exactly is happening with the nun right now?

And what of that are other PCs willing to let me tell the guard

Whatever you end up doing with the nun.

Unless someone takes active steps to prevent you, you can tell them what you want.

Yes, but I'm trying OOC not to be *too* disruptive as the party token paladin-type. So I was asking the other PCs OOC if they had a narrative they prefered me to try and spin. Because "We attacked them out of hand" is a bad narrative. So we need something better! And I'd prefer not to decide that without any consideration of the other players.

"The scales on the nun were proof of her sins. She was obviously preparing the children for some kind of dark ritual.""

"Their guards got too boisterous and attracted the wrong sort of attention"? It's strictly true.

"They attracted unfortunate attention in [bad neighborhood], leading to the deaths of several guards, despite my best efforts to prevent such deaths. After the fight, it came out that the nun leading the girls was corrupt in [manner], explaining their unwise behavior."

How's that sound? Got a good phrasing for [manner]?

(I prevented deaths with nonlethal attacks, but it still counts!)

Seems legit. Let's go with that.

Anyone wanting to deal with the nun while the angel is gone?

And anyone calling dibs on the rest of the loot? Else I assume that Mist will pocket the potions and holy waters, as she was the last one to handle it, and distribute the junk armaments among Lobinha's followers to be sold later.

Should probably pursue the leads in geographical order.

Bridesmaid lead is the closest known geographically. Eremite lead is taking you out of town.

As for the Seal Ring lead, you'd need to locate the alleged thief first.

Anyone on the other side of the gate who is known to hire mercenaries and who the guards wouldn't dare to question?

I have been told under no uncertain terms by SDK that Karlat's appearance would be considered a good thing. Which, of course, depends on the DM and how, exactly, he'd fit in to the story.

Monsignore Entenwein is the private secretary who handles delicate stuff for Hierophant Lazarus, including matters that could sully the hands of the Blue Guard.

Reuben van Peperzak is a rich merchant looking after his family's matters along the Nocturnal Sea.

Jade sunna Idail is a sorceress from the Siyabid Caliphate mostly sticking to herself, but surprisingly well-connected and handling magical matters for some important people in Chancel.
