Title: Star Wars SAGA: Opinions on a not so overpowered CT combo
Post by: Rekmond on October 24, 2015, 12:48:40 AM
the CT killers, combos which can take down anything short of a colossal space ship with one round of actions.

Among this myriad of atrocious loopholes and exploits I seek a far more tame approach that won't see my RL group throwing my character into the paper shredder. And then burning the scraps, before burying the ashes, and then forcing amnesia via blunt force trauma.....

I have never gotten to make use of it, but the Scoundrel's *Brigand* Talent tree possesses a nice little article called Easy Prey.
Upon successfully landing an attack upon a foe, I may half my damage from that blow to make said foe flat footed against all my attacks until the end of my next turn.
Unfortunately this Talent requires Cheap Trick as a prerequisite which is not nearly as nice in my eyes, but it can be used towards flavoring the character.

With Dastardly Strike this requires 5 levels of Scoundrel for a 2 turn -1 on the CT (-2 if the initial blow is a surprise attack)

However, turn the character into a dual wielder as either a double blaster or going into the Master Privateer prestige for Blaster and Blade and the CT will tick down faster.
2 turns potential -4 on the CT, not guaranteed, but likely.

I'm looking for advice on either good alternatives or ways to nicely augment this combo, like size large Master Priv. with Stunning Strike.

This game is starting with character level 5.

(and please, no ideas that create an infinite darkside score like the Shatterpoint/Memory Walk combination causes)

I've been away from SAGA for a while, but I feel like there are easier ways to get your target flat-footed.  Trick Step maybe?  Possibly combined with the Prestige Class that gives you extra swift actions (Outlaw, iirc).  I'd have to check.

The thrust of the thread, though, is how much CT is too much?  I think if you're doing more 2+ CT-track a round, then you're just a solid CT-Track killer, and you're risking all that entails game balance-wise.  I'm not necessarily opposed to such characters, but I shove few characters into shredders.

If you want to go mild CT-Tracking, I'm not sure what this combo has to recommend it over a melee dual-wielder with Stunning Strike or even just a dual-wielder blaster with a few resources thrown into stunning/ion shots.

Thank you for the input. I have begun looking for better flat-footed methods, like the Assassin's flanking talent.  And I'm trying to work out a force sensitive assassin as an option, where the CT is just another tool to kill with.

Also, to anyone reading. There is only 1 active SAGA game here, and would seem to be straight up running the Dawn of Defiance module.

I'm looking to playa SAGA  game really badly, and my 4 other communities are dead SAGA wise. Anyone with a place to play, please tell me.

I wouldn't mind a Saga game if you find one.

+1, although I'm a VOIP player (on stuff like Roll20) rather than a Play by Post one.  I also think Saga needs a bit of a house rules tune-up to work best.  It'd really have benefited from a bit more support or a ".5" edition.

Hmmm, I'd have to look through the Saga Index to see various ways.  By the way, if you don't have them, they're these spreadsheets with all the feats, talents, etc. listed in them.

Again, if you're going melee, you're kind of already home:  Stunning Strike + multiple attacks means 4ish CT track in a single round.  The same results can be gotten from stunners.  You'd want a fallback option against multiple opponents, CT killing is really a single target thing, which fits with an assassin.

If you're going force-sensitive, what about the Vanish Talent (Force Unleashed 92)?

You want an easy way to make 'em flat-footed:
Galaxy at War, feat:
Steadying Position.
Prerequisite: Careful Shot.
Benefit: When you are prone and aim before making a ranged attack, your target does not benefit from its Dexterity bonus to Reflex Defense.

Ignore me, that wasn't even close to what you're asking. I shouldn't post when I'm this tired.
