Wasn't there one about cucumbers as well? See, they get shit done. There was, we had a running gag about it for an entire camp when the law was active. It was about how badass we were for defying the EU by buying bent cucumbers straight from the local farmers, that shit was underground I tell you.
There is still a shop at a marketplace in Helsinki that refuses to sell anything but illegal ones. Whenever I visit the place in the morning (which is rarely, I am nocturnal), I buy a few just because of that.Wasn't there one about cucumbers as well? It's sad to think that something as awesome as The Thief and the Cobbler was completely torn apart by way of Arabian Knight. Who cares which anime has the most powerful thing? It's fiction! Someone could always make an anime with the omnipotent Judeo-Christian God as a main character and then that would be the most powerful thing in anime...Two great things that go great with each other (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhObQ5ARtxU)*insert ranting about how destroying a star doesn't mean you can destroy a universe*
People keep going on about that series having the most powerful thing ever seen in anime. Like completely impossible to beat for absolutely anyone from any other series... this annoys me greatly. I think Madoka from Madoka Magica could take them out by pure power or possibly Lelouche (who should be about 30 Int in 3.5 if I bothered to stat him) from Code Geass with enough planning.

Moondog, born Louis Thomas Hardin (May 26, 1916 – September 8, 1999), was a blind American composer, musician, poet and inventor of several musical instruments. Moving to New York as a young man, Moondog made a deliberate decision to make his home on the streets there, where he spent approximately twenty of the thirty years he lived in the city. Most days he could be found in his chosen part of town wearing clothes he had created based on his own interpretation of the Norse god Thor. Thanks to his unconventional outfits and lifestyle, he was known for much of his life as "The Viking of 6th Avenue."

3. *cue Fullmetal Alchemist style hand clapping*
4. ????

This is just awesome: the scale of the universe (http://scaleofuniverse.com/).
Creepy local coincidence is creepy.
So I hear news at work that there's a robbery going on at a bank agency in town. They say there are hostages, including a pregnant woman. I think "man, I wish I could help" but, realistically, I know at best I will hope that things turn out okay. This is near the end of my shift. I go home, and suddenly I am assaulted by an uncontrollable urge to take a nap.
I end up asleep for two hours, and when I wake up I'm a little sweaty. There's a segment on local news about the robbery. According to the newscast, some guy in black jeans and shirt came out of nowhere and proceeded to kick the robbers' collective asses while screaming in some incomprehensible language. Apparently, no one got a good look at the guy, but everyone agreed on the black clothing bit.
It would take roughly one hour and fifteen minutes to run from where I live to where the robbery was going on and back. I was dressed in black jeans and shirt to work today.
But, of course, I was asleep at the time.
Creepy coincidences are creepy. :P
Coincidence? I think not.

Although the Census 2001 also recorded 390,000 Jedi Knights, making Jedi the fourth-largest "religion" in the UK, this does not confer them any official recognition. In fact, all returns with "Jedi Knight" were classified as "No religion", along with Atheist, Agnostic, Heathen and those who ticked "Other" but did not write in any religion.

That tells me that when the zombies come I need to move to Nebraska!
Or it was staged. Poorly. There were cameras in positions that didn't have cameras in other angles (off the ground, near the button, but no object to hide a camera on at that point, and most likely not a "zoom and enhance" deal). However probably fake it was, it was still a pretty good commercial. Also, I doubt the passersby who pushed the button would've just stood around staring had it been a hidden camera deal, though their surprise looks genuine. It's possible it was a half-staged deal, with the stage prepared but the "victims" not necessarily told what exactly would happen.
Oh, and they could have done it a few times and taken the best takes from it. So a half-fake thing. Definitely not a hidden camera deal though.

Yeah it is. I've been reading it since it first came out.
I just finished an archive-binge on it.Alas, not a video game character, even if it does have a few conversions. :P
Needs Kenshiro.

Extra hilarity for the whole bishonen fanboy/girls bashing on the last strips.I just finished an archive-binge on it.Alas, not a video game character, even if it does have a few conversions. :P
Needs Kenshiro.
It's not all about VG characters, but overly-muscled, super macho'd guys. Kenshiro, at least, has the requisite muscle mass to qualify. I'd like to see a Warhammer 40K space marine make it into the comic, too, especially since the novels describe them as nearly 3 metres tall in their armour.
Leonidas is in it and he's not a videogame character either.
Link is portrayed as an annoyance to the macho Ganon, and not a member. Jared is more an adopted "pet". Space marines are physically massive, trained killers, very intimidating, and believe they are right. Whether they have sex or not is a non-point.

On the contrary, the fact they've sacrificed the main macho quality means they're just oversized drug addicts, and drug addicts are not macho.
Also last time I checked a massive amount of their fluff portrays them all filled with doubt, angst and self-guilt over this and that, more than once borderline on emo. They're also renowed for having trouble dealing with simple axes and swords, when even a renaissance army beats that kind of thing (proof:warhammer fantasy, where the human detachments fight and beat the exact same kind of daemons that SM have so much trouble with, and the human detachments don't have all the fancy SM wargear nor can afford to run away from the planet where they're fighting like the SM did countless times).

Fun fact I discovered today: when running laps, I seem to actually become FASTER with each subsequent lap. People should go see this movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2125435/), if you can find it playing nearby. The director/writer/composer is a guy I know (his dad has been friends with my dad for like 50 years). It won top prize at Sundance, and an award at Cannes. It's coming here to the little local 1-screen artsy theatre over labor day weekend and the next week. I'll take my family to check it out. Thanks for the tip. It looks awesome!

I just discovered that the guy who founded FASA (the creator of Shadowrun) is working on a new Shadowrun video game. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadowrun_Returns)
Not involved with the poorly received 2007 Shadowrun shooter game, Weisman wanted to work on another Shadowrun project that had a more "authentic tone,"
the developers would develop a "backers-only exclusive mission which will, tie together the stories of the SNES title and the Sega Genesis title."

It is, but in the end you get to see if you contradicted yourself in your statements and how you can be proven wrong by logical means.Answering honestly just wound up getting me a "Thank you for taking our survey" boilerplate end screen. :???
I got a logcial argument showing where I contradicted myself that consisted of 50 steps....
Don`t know what you are doing wrong :p
Oddly enough, when I did it, I got the response that my responses imply the possibility of a necessary being, with no mention of a contradiction in the analysis.
I got a logcial argument showing where I contradicted myself that consisted of 50 steps....Took it again. Deliberately changed a couple of my answers. Same result as before. "Thank you for taking our survey. Your results have been recorded."
Don`t know what you are doing wrong :p
Oddly enough, when I did it, I got the response that my responses imply the possibility of a necessary being, with no mention of a contradiction in the analysis.
When it asks you if an event X and Y are each individually possible, if you think that if X is actual, than Y is still individually possible, what did you anwer? That's the pinch answer to make the circular argument regarding the existence of a Necessary Being. But by hard logic, if X *is* in fact actual, and if both X and Y were individually possible to begin with, and if he isn't asking you if them both are jointly possible, why would Y cease to be possible if X is factual?

I can buy that there's a last surviving tribe member of anything somewhere in the wild here in Brazil, but I've never heard of this story before (unsurprising as the news here tend to gravitate towards other matters). The report seems to really, really exaggerate and romanticize the actions of the Brazillian government in this regard, however...
US citizens will sympathize with what i'm saying, since many Native Americans abused the fact that their reserves were not subject to taxation to build Casinos and other stuff to profit and abuse the law that was made to protect their culture. That's a point of view on the casinos I've not heard expressed, here in the USA, FYI.

I have, at great length.
The issue is that the laws were put there to protect their culture, but the law is being used to protect their right to hold businesses that are anathema to their original culture.
Why does that make it funny that you haven't heard that?
Because it is a stone-cold RAW vs. RAI debate where RAW is winning due to bureaucracy ad is maintained through heavy manipulation of the laws that stand. It's real-life "you break it, you buy it".
And somehow, we managed to turn "Awesome Stuff" into "Small Rants".

Not all ground targets involve people. Part of this has to do with people not covering every speck of ground.

I went to opening night of my wife's show (http://www.thebroadwaytheatre.org/?go=sho_dtl&sho=585) on Friday, and again today with my family. An amazing show, if anyone is near south jersey, you should come see it (it's running for 3 more weekends).Nice. I remember our little music/theatre department doing that play back when I was first in college.

nice star trek quote. ^^ highly appropriate. and if you got it from the article, then consider it a challenge to find the star trek reference, instead.
Just saying, it'd take less resources to convert Venus to a usable atmosphere than to colonize a planet in another star system. Its just large scale chemistry.
But I don't think colonizing it would be a good idea. You can mine for resources without colonizing. And when you're doing that, Jupiter has more of the resources, but less corrosion, so it would be cheaper (unless the altitude maintenance costs as much or more than the corrosion maintenance) with a greater return. It might be easier to get the resources off of Venus though. But for colonization, you'd need some other planet, at least for now. Hmm actually, I thought Venus was mostly SO2 and CO2, not just CO2, this might be easier than I thought. Things we would need to do: eliminate the acids in the atmosphere, pull the sulfur out of the atmosphere, pull 70-80% of the carbon out of the atmosphere, and pull about 60% of the oxygen out of the atmosphere (this is the end of the easy stuff), get the core rotating (we need a stronger magnetic field, see below for ideas), add a freaking ton of hydrogen and a freaking ton of nitrogen to the atmosphere, use the hydrogen and oxygen we removed from the atmosphere to make water, add some rarer minerals (phosphorous, potassium, magnesium, etc.) assuming they aren't a part of the planet's surface, and begin the process of building a topsoil layer (use bacteria, then fungi, then plants). The bacteria/fungi/plants will pull the remaining 20-10% of the carbon we need to remove from the atmosphere. Then we can FINALLY start colonizing it.
Mars tasks (assuming mass of planet not an issue): get it's core rotating as above (launch an asteroid into it? Or Phobos/Deimos?), begin planting life to begin pulling carbon out of atmosphere, add a ton of nitrogen to the atmosphere, add a bunch (not a ton....) of hydrogen to the atmosphere, make water (though not nearly as much), bring temperature up, begin topsoil construction as above (though note: it got a jump-start from the life planted early on).
So yes, Venus is possible, but Mars would be easier.
Venus is the closest planet to Earth.
Jupiter is much farther away, not to mention the much bigger gravity would make it a much bigger pain to take off harvested materials.
Nitrogen isn't all that common in comets, is it? As for hydrogen, I don't think there's enough in any one comet (unless the target is Mars, which I think might work if we just crash a couple comets into it it should have the composition we need, the only problem is the structure), so the most reliable source would be Jupiter. And mining Jupiter is easier than people realize, since we'd be mining helium and hydrogen. Just skim the top to get what we need. Saturn has a good amount of nitrogen we could mine (easier than even Jupiter to mine). But yeah, for the other stuff asteroids should suffice.Comets would consist of most frozen common gases. Nitrogen is not that rare as they go, while being also heavy enough to easily gather from gravity. Its pretty stable as they go, so it'd remain in elemental form.
About the magnetic field....Given its weather systems, I'd say it's still rotating. Whether it will be if we fiddle with it is a different story of course.
What if we overheat the core of venus, since Venus has essentially the same core as earth shouldn't that provide magnetic field?
Of course that depends on if the core of venus is still rotating enough for this....
Yes,i have no doubt it is rotating, the problem is the speed, since Venus is closer to the sun than earth.....About the magnetic field....Given its weather systems, I'd say it's still rotating. Whether it will be if we fiddle with it is a different story of course.

Though, a magnetic field might not even be that necessary. A sufficiently dense atmosphere can just soak up the incoming beams, and permanent settlements can be underground. It'd be better to have a magnetic field than not have one, but it can be engineered around.
While terraforming is awesome, I feel that it would stay in the realm of science fiction unless we don't get faster than light travel. At sublight speeds, travel between stars takes long enough that it's only feasible if we want to near completely sever part of the population (good for survival of the species, but kinda hard to get any trade going, so no major economic incentives ;))Depends on the extent. The ability to construct a viable ecosystem is vital beyond just space exploration, we need it to create safe habitats and more.
Distance inside the solar system is still important because even if you have the warp drive, as the article pointed out, it doesn't have the precision for travel inside a solar system, just between stars, and then you need "conventional" means to actually get to the planet you want.Venus is the closest planet to Earth.
Jupiter is much farther away, not to mention the much bigger gravity would make it a much bigger pain to take off harvested materials.
When Alpha Centauri is "weeks or months" away according to the article, the distance between Jupiter and Venus isn't significant.
I have no input on the gravity issue.

And gravity is a pretty important issue. It's actually the main problem limiting us right now. Just geting into space (and then back inside the atmosphere in one piece) is doable, but still extremely expensive and you end up having to discard most of the machinery used, leading to even higher costs. And Jupiter has 2.64 the superficial gravity of Earth, while Venus has 0.88.
Because I don't watch that show.
Mind giving me a little more detail, SirP?
To a better discussion: Jack: Are you familiar with the idea of using controlled nuclear explosions as a propulsion method? If we can get a material light enough and strong enough to resist the effects of the explosions, we could improve on the efficiency by creating an actual rocket with the gas expansion coming from nuclear fission rather than chemical explosions. Rather than wimpy little chemical bonds, we'd be turning mass into energy (much larger energy outputs with much less mass).

Well ok, it's not quite at the construction material strength yet.
It sounds like something out of a Dario Argento film: soaring architecture built with fresh blood and sand. It’s no camp horror movie, though--rather, it’s an award-winning proposal from recent architecture school graduate Jack Munro.
“Animal blood is one of the most prolific waste materials in the world,” says Munro, a 2012 graduate of University of Westminster in London. “The blood drained from animal carcasses is generally thrown away or incinerated despite being a potentially useful product.”
In his final semester, Munro carried out an exhaustive study testing his hypothesis--that animal blood could be used in construction in underdeveloped areas where traditional building materials are scarce.
A single cow can produce about eight gallons of blood after it’s been slaughtered. Munro collected blood from four cows for his early tests, adding an antibacterial agent to stave off fungal growth and mixing it with sand. Then, he poured the mixture into a simple formwork and baked it at a fairly low temperature--only 160 degrees. He found that after only an hour of baking, the blood proteins coagulate to form a strong insoluble mass, bonding with the sand. He experimented with making glue first, then moved on to bricks. Compression testing suggests that he hasn’t hit on a concoction that produces a super strong brick, but they are waterproof, a major strength in areas where erosion is an issue.
Munro imagines the bricks in use in arid climates, like the Middle East, where mud bricks are typically used. For his thesis, he presented a design for a brick-making community in Siwa, Egypt, that “seeks to re-establish the autonomy of desert by using the waste blood from halal animal slaughter to create building materials.” Siwa’s agriculture industry has been decimated by changes in the Saharan desert, encroaching upon arable land. Brick-making could offer an alternative income to residents.
Munro’s building contains all parts of the production process: cattle sheds, slaughterhouse, and brick manufacturing facilities. “The building itself is formed by casting animal-blood-based adhesive over a sand dune and allowing the dune to migrate,” he explains, “revealing an interior space that can be excavated and occupied.”
“I believe there is certainly a potential for the real-world application of the techniques developed in the project,” Munro tells Co.Design over email. Right now, he’s looking to raise funds for a prototype single-story home built with his bricks in Siwa.
It all adds up to a strong and convincing concept. A weak point, of course, is how occupants will react to the taboo of living in houses built with blood. Then again, most of the general population is a-OK with the multitude of animal by-products used in everyday products. And at least in Munro’s case, he’s actually upcycling a product that would otherwise go to waste.
Sound crazy enough?For what?
Here's an idea I had this evening.
Velvet Room, the nightclub (sort of).
-Only membership patrons may attend.
-Patrons are required to wear a mask at all times. Unmasking for any other purpose than sanitizing or mask-swapping gets you out of the nightclub for the night.
-A tarot card is assigned to each patron. The methods of choice vary.
-The nightclub is expressly noted as possessing an ultimate purpose, but none except the owner are permitted to know what it is.
-Patrons are encouraged to provide their own exhibitions and entertainment (subject to the house's approval) above and beyond those provided by the nightclub itself.
-Alcohol may or may not be served randomly to patrons (namely some may be getting "drunk" out of stupidity alone).
-Nudity within club limits is discouraged, but not prohibited.

Well duh. Though those two would have to be scrapped if it turned into an actual nightclub though. Here's an idea I had this evening.

I've just spent the past half hour shoveling manure into my grandparents' garden. Hopefully we'll get a better crop next year than this one, especially with the melons.
Slightly related, once you've had homegrown tomatoes you'll forever find Subway's to be shitty.
I really wish I had the money and time to experience some of those games like Persona 3. I -might- be able to get a PS2, but the game would be hard to find I bet and still expensive. A PS3 would probably be better and get it on PSN, and while I'm there I need to get Chrono Cross... I so need a job. Stupidest thing I've done was quit my job at the grocery store for a call center I knew would be stressful enough that I might get fired for having problems.

I initially thought of Libertarian because it sounds very much like how Penn Jillette, the magician/comic, describes his viewpoint when I've seen him do so, and he claims to "ALWAYS vote Libertarian."Sort of. Most of the Libertarians I've met in Ohio could give a fuck less about personal liberty, they just want a society where corporations rule instead of government and it's every man for himself, and you compete daily for even the most basic resources and die if you fall and get left behind. They're selfish sociopathic bastards who want the ability to fuck other people over, and want the law to legally excuse them doing it and justify their personal agendas (most of which involve some form of fascism or social darwinism).
My apologies to Nanshork and the boards other Libertarians, I realize you aren't all like that, but it is frustrating.
About Ayn Rand: she's become the Libertarian messiah. I hate her about as much as you do, and for similar reasons. It's just that when most people talk Libertarian, they think Objectivism. See: Penn Jillette. He's a religious zealot, and his religion is Randism. It involves hating all other religions and trying to convert as many people as possible to the same, and taking over the world with anarchy that protects the rich people, regardless of why they are rich or how they got there.

It's EXACTLY like reverse voodoo. It's a bigger model that is somehow similar enough to a smaller thing that it works in the same way despite being made of different stuff.Molecular voodoo (http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn22440-polystyrene-atoms-could-surpass-the-real-deal.html)
Except that the fake ones are 2000 times the size of real atoms, and the binding is done with DNA molecules.
... wait.
Are they trying to make the Borg / Skynet?
Synthetics and genetics should never meet. These guys need to play more games and watch more movies.
So lately we've been getting a very persistent telemarketer. Eventually, when mom seemed at her wits' end, I took the phone from her.
"I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you're looking to sell us something, I can tell you I don't have any interest. But what I do have is a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you stop calling and erase our phone from your registry now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."
"[long pause] ...we won't be calling again, sir. *hangs up*"

Having been in the industry making cold calls for charities (against my will), let me tell you how to avoid this in the states. When these people call you they have a screen, and they click one of several buttons when they end your call. They have call completed, call again later, and do not call again. They're only allowed to click call completed if they got what they want from you. They're told by the employer not to click do not call again unless you specifically say the words "Under state and federal law it is illegal for me to call me if i tell you to stop doing so, and I am doing so at this time." See under the law they cant call that number again for 10 years, and you could move potentially losing them access to whoever moves in. So if you make a request "please stop calling me" or a statement of anger "Fuck you guys, quit calling me", they click call again later. You have to specifically declare "I am using my rights under the law, blah blah blah" because all those calls are recorded for the dozens of metrics they use to micro manage their employees.
Also some of them will stop calling you if you get offensive. And by offensive I don't mean foul language, I mean saying something way outside acceptability. Way waaaaaaay outside acceptability.I once had a room mate who was one of the angriest, offensive, foul-mouthed assholes I've ever known. Really. I still remember the time that he talked so harshly to a telemarketer, just happening to get lucky that some of the insults he used hit home, that the guy hung up on him, and then called him back, crying and cursing. I actually felt a little bad for the telemarketer, but damn... I have to admit that it was epic. :D
the Brazil part could be a problem...

There's something like that on the Brazilian Penal Code. It's under Art. 129, § 5° "O juiz, não sendo graves as lesões, pode ainda substituir a pena de detenção pela de multa, de duzentos mil réis a dois contos de réis:
I - se ocorre qualquer das hipóteses do parágrafo anterior;
II - se as lesões são recíprocas."
(Quick translation: It means that if the injuries are not severe, the judge can replace the sentence with a fine, in the hypothesis of the previous paragraph ( I ), or if the injuries are reciprocal( II ) )
Bolding mine. There's also the fact that if the injuries are not severe enough to count as actual injuries, than it's no longer a crime, but a contravention (which i believe in the US they call minor misdemeanor), called "Vias de Fato". Which is what happens when there's no exchange of blows, only pushing around and yelling, and it's described on the appropriate law... (Lei das Contravenções Penais).
So basically what that means is that it's pretty hard for anyone to actually go to jail for a street fight, as long as both parties were not severely injured (Injuries that result in a inability to perform work-related duties for over 30 days, permanent disability, early child birth, or puts said person's life in danger, as per §1º). So, you can wail on a guy until he passes out, just so long as all he gets is a black eye and a headache when he wakes up, with no broken limbs or fractures, or at least none that take more than 29 days to heal, and NOT go to jail, just so long as you can A) Prove that he fought back and that you didn't initiate the assault, but it was something that occurred on the heat of the moment B) Convince the judge that you're a regular individual and that it's an isolated occurrence, which means it's best for all parties involved that the sentence be converted to a simple fine.
So it's not like you're going to have the police watching you wail on the guy just waiting to break up the fight when one of you hits the ground, but there's ways of not going to jail because of a street fight.
Are you sure that's still valid? I mean, look at the currency. That's seriously fucking old.
One of my favorite examples of this: it is illegal in Boston to take a bath more than twice a week, but less than once every two weeks. This law was put into place because of a water issue a loooong time ago, and was just never removed from the books. Just do a search for "stupid laws" and you'll get a huge list...
So I wave and take off.So on top of all your other superpowers, you're also Sherlock Holmes. That's pretty incredible.
Whale fishing is illegal in OhioYeah... I grew up there... and promptly ran away like I was on fire as soon as I hit adulthood.
If you want truly fucked up laws look at Tennessee.
So I wave and take off.
I think the fave I found online a long time back was "It is only legal for men to have sex with animals in tennessee if that animal is 9 pounds or less.":lmao
THen again they also say ministers cant run for office so they arent all bad...
I recall a law in England where you can't drive a motorcycle with a bear in the passenger seat. As best I can recall the reason it was put in place is because a museum was transferring some exhibits to another one and one of the people got fed up waiting for a delivery truck for one of the stuffed bears so he put it in his motorcycle and went off. The rubbernecking from this caused quite a few accidents, and thus the law went into place to prevent more accidents. So presumably lions and tigers are still OK, then? :P
Yeah, I lack that mystical thing people call 'common sense'.So I wave and take off.
There's nothing wrong with analysing people (that's a skill we all possess, in a more or less developed state), but I think we should keep those results to ourselves as a way to respect other people's privacy. I wouldn't tell the stranger I saw on the street today that his slumped posture, slight crackle in respiration, very light jaundice, reddened eyes and skin discolouration where a wedding ring would be that they're going through a very stressful divorce and are currently drinking and smoking far too much (probably from a combination of a low self esteem from being middle-aged, overweight and balding, and the fear of a drastic lifestyle change), because I'd have a profound respect for his privacy and right to be left alone with his demons.
But that's just me.

You should change your sig, that image doesn't work anymore... :(
I once worked as a lab tech where I measured out pure, solid caffeine for experiments (related to cancer research, believe it or not). It is hydrophobic, and so readily passes through your skin, so I had to be very careful when handling it not to get it on me. Even a light dusting on your arm above the glove would give you a buzz. :PCaffeinated soap. (http://www.contactcaffeine.com/) ... That's a new one.
Thinkgeek has had caffeinated soap for years. :p

It's hydrophobic? Didn't know that. Also did not know that hydrophobic necessary were absorbed into the skin easily, why is that?I recall it's something to do with the skin's protective coat keeping shit out being oil based.
The membranes around your cells are basically made of fat. So oil-soluble things pass right through them. Your skin is made of cells, just like the rest of you. It's hydrophobic? Didn't know that. ? is this it ?I'm surprised you can just order that... We got it from a chemical supply company (Sigma-Aldrich, IIRC). It's actually pretty dangerous. An overdose can kill you. I took too many of those over the counter caffeine pills once in high school, and had muscle cramps and spasms all over my body for like 30 minutes... It was not fun.

What would I have done with it if it had actually turned up? I don't exactly need a load of super napalm...

When I was an undergrad going to buy something at the campus chemical supply store, I noticed an open cabinet which had in it, among other things, a canister of chlorine gas... I remember thinking morbidly that I could just walk over and open the valve on that thing, and kill everyone in the room. :lmao I still can't believe they didn't even have it locked up. I also remember that there was a back door to the chemical storeroom standing wide open at the time. I could have literally stuck it under my coat/in my backpack and walked right out and I'm sure no one would have even noticed. It was kind of appalling. That's when you decided to be nice and just grab all the 96% ethanol instead?
Also, as for needing chlorine triflouride: haven't you ever had pesky neighbors?
Wikipedia says "Hydrophobic is often used interchangeably with lipophilic, "fat-loving." However, the two terms are not synonymous. While hydrophobic substances are usually lipophilic, there are exceptions—such as the silicones and fluorocarbons."The membranes around your cells are basically made of fat. I knew that......I didn't think "hyrdophobic" automatically meant "fat soluble" (lipophillic?)

So yeah... Did you at least warn the guys at the shop?Nope. I just got what I came for, and left. This was 20 years ago, and back then I didn't give a crap. I would of course report it now.

I'm certain some of you keeping up with the small rants thread knows of that little incident last Monday where I shouted my would-be boss into silence, right?
As I expected, by Tuesday everyone in the company and their fat uncles knew about it. What I didn't expect to find out was why.
The talk I had with HR should have clued me in. She had mentioned clients, except thinking back, there were no clients on the 6th floor (where I work) at the time...

To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society.
The key is you have to pass a comprehension test. And it was only a 4 day reduction, for every 30 days spent, max. Less than a 12.5% reduction.

Yup, and the comprehension test is ministered by the Judge who's in charge of processing *all* of the inmates pleas for reductions, paroles, etc... So i'd bet he's going to be pretty thorough (although condescending, based on the average education level of the inmates), before giving them a "pass".
personally, i agree with Nanshork. I don't see it making much of a difference. It would be different if there was mandatory education for all inmates. They don't get out before they have their highschool diploma, at least. This, i wager, would have an impact. They're not doing anything, as is, and this way, at least they'll have some CHANCE of getting something better when they do eventually leave prison.

Well, thanks to that I've started watching One Piece just to see what it's like. The fat pirate bitch in episode 1 reminds me of my aunt, but much taller and actually capable of doing stuff.

You can but it kind of defies the point, it would be both more difficult and exactly the same as finding the same show on any other site on the internet. Hulu isn't licensed to serve other countries and countermanding their restriction efforts to view the content is just as illegal as finding it on a file sharing site...
You'll forgive me if I find the notion of something being free to watch on the internet based on your geographical location ludicrous at best.

im not familiar w/ any 'international' authority. the UN isnt in that business.
each country has its own laws. most companies have a legal presence in several countries. but not every country has reciprocal laws or enforces them.
As someone who works in the ad industry, actually, I disagree. You have to keep the approach fresh, trying new things, but it is by no means dying. Segments are phasing out, but it still rolls on as a whole.
