Ha ha! Yeah that was awesome and you had your fire coat so you took like next to nothing damage if I remember correctly. Killed that boss so quick.

I remember when you and Hudson were heading to the hospital and crossing buildings and that one infected tried to jump up to the ladder and just fell lol and then you guys used a sound distraction to escape the Lurker. Good times indeed.

Thanks man. If I could I would keep going but I have so much on my plate right now it's unbelievable. Maybe...maybe one day I can come out of retirement. We'll see.

In the mean time, I'll see you around bud.

It is with deep regret and much sadness that I must acknowledge the game I am running will no longer be able to continue. http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?board=49.0

I can't continue. Things have changed since the last post and...it's better if I don't go on for several reasons. I'm sorry. I'm in tears as I write this because this game means so much to me. This is not the way I imagined things going and I wanted to finish this but I can't keep going, I just can't. I'm sorry guys. I apologize. I just don't know what to say. There isn't much to say except I'm sorry and thanks again for playing. This board will be soon moved to the retired boards. If I ever ran another game, you guys would be my first choice for players.

Fuck. Just...fuck.

lmao, wow that's funny

For the record, me and Maggie (Lily) are no longer together in real life. I have no idea how this will affect the game as she moves on with her life. Just a heads up if things start to get rough down the road. I'll try my best to keep this thing running no matter what but I can't guarantee anything right now. I know we've come this far. I appreciate you sticking around Gnomeo to help out with the fun for Nathan (this whole game is for him really since he lives too far away for us to play together) and I appreciated the time we had with Mystic and even the short time we had with Pimped (I had to go back all the way to the first couple pages of brilliantgameologists to find some of his posts heh heh). Just wanted to say that.

This is true, although if I remember correctly one can simply edit the text and make it appear as if the roll is higher.

However InvisibleCastle is still down so we'll go on honor for now and use it.

I can't believe invisiblecastle is still down. If it's not up tomorrow I'll find another way to roll dice.

Chuck enters the small clearing, eyes peeled for danger. The path lies ahead towards the mountain. At his feet the remnants of a body remains. He searches underneath the body to find a and an extra clip. In the man's right pocket he pulls out a playing card, a poker card, the Joker. Chuck turns around and looks down at the grey object they saw earlier. It's a lap top computer. The lid is closed and it appears to have seen better days.

Suddenly Chuck's eyes flicker to the jungle. Something had moved in the trees. He could have sworn it. He strains to hear anything but the jungle goes quiet. Even the birds weren't cawing suddenly.

8
Chuck and Lily examine their surroundings. On this side of the river the bank extends a couple feet and then several more of barren ground before a wall of jungle rushes to greet them. To the west the river continues on and on and the jungle along side it. To the north east the mountain peeks up over the tall canopy. To the immediate east not even 50 feet away is the ratty bridge that leads to the small clearing before the jungle gets thick again. From here it's quite visible that the tattered remains that lies in the clearing was once a man. Now just a bundle of ripped flesh and broken bones. The grey slim box lying near him is still ambigous from the distance. The clearing once obviously once some sort of camp judging from the ashes from a fire they can now make out from this angle near the body. Beyond the clearing is a path that seems to cut through the thick of the jungle towards the mountain peak.

The same sounds of the living jungle assault Lily's ears as before, a contrast to the gentle churning of the stream behind her.

Slight delay, back to your normal programming.  :D

Johnson smiles wryly, hearing Chuck's grumbles as Chuck mounts the log and begins stepping across, hands out for balance.

Without warning Hudson gets on the log as well when Chuck is nearly half way. The log shifts. Whoa! Chuck nearly falls off, coming to a crouch and using both hands on the log to steady himself. Hudson wavers, one foot in the air momentarily before finding his footing. They both continue across slowly and step off to the other side.

"Go", Johnson growls to Viona, "Or I'll toss you across".

Viona pouts, puffing her lower lip out, but Johnson just shakes his head. Her beauty couldn't work on him, he was already infatuated with another doctor. She then practically sneers as she steps up to the log. "Ridiculous", she mumbles as she begins to cross, "I don't see why we couldn't use the bri-whoa..."! She slips on her next step and falls straight into the small river.

A litany of curses erupt from her mouth as she swims to shore quite powerfully. "Captain of the swim team", she mumbles as she steps onto the shore. She is now sulking wet from her head to her toes and extremely pissed off looking. "I can't travel like this".

Johnson on the other side of the shore is cackling with laughter.

"FUCK YOU"! She roars from their side.

Johnson crosses quite deftly, even in armor, and lands on the other side. He has a perpetual smirk. Viona gives him a glare that promises death if she can help it. "I can't travel like this", she repeats, folding her arms stubbornly.

The shrieks of monkey's and various caw's of birds mingle in the air loudly where the jungle meets the river. To the east is the small clearing and mangled body/metallic object that lies after the rope bridge. The clearing is the path to the base of the mountain and to the west lies jungle as far as the eye can see.

11
Lily tests the log first and it appears steady. She then climbs aboard it and like a cat slinks across the small river. She steps down on the other side and immediately takes a look around to inspect her surroundings. Here is where the jungle gets thick. The shrieks of monkey's and various caw's of birds mingle in the air loudly, uneasily reminding her of the screeching Infected make. The forest is very thick ahead and she can only see maybe ten feet into it before visibility stops. To the east is the small clearing that lies after the rope bridge. From her position Lily can better see what Chuck couldn't make out. Lying on the ground in the clearing is a body...or pieces of a body. Something had ripped someone to shreds. Near the body on the ground is a metallic looking square. Beyond the clearing is the path to the base of the mountain and to the west lies jungle as far as she can see...which admittedly wasn't much. Lily double checks for danger, then signals to the others it's safe.

Viona snorts. "I don't want to cross the log. What if I fall"? She crosses her arms stubbornly.

Johnson rolls his eyes at her then nods to the others. "Go ahead. I'll cover the rear". He takes up a crouching position and watches out for danger warily.

Hudson looks out for danger too but see's nor hears nothing more than he did before. Taking another sniff he is shocked at the smell of water. It's...pleasant in a way. But it's distracting as well and covers other scents up.

However the smell of Infection is stronger than before.

Wasting no time Chuck dives head first into the observatory. Instantly he notices the change in humidity as heat flushes his face and as he takes a deep breathe he realizes even the air is thinner in here...as if he were higher in elevation and not thousands of feet underground. Moving forward towards the mountain he reaches the river. The river looks to be only ten feet wide and 3 feet deep at the most and is moving about 4 miles an hour. There is a rope bridge with wooden planks that crosses though. The bridge for some reason however, is in horrible condition. It appears to be rotting. On the other side of the bridge is a small clearing before the jungle gets thick. Chuck can see something lying on the ground in the clearing but can't make out what it is from this distance. In the far west he can make out a tree that has fallen over the river and serves as a possible way to cross. Looking at the actual river itself he believes it wouldn't be too difficult to traverse if he had too...as long as nothing lurked in the waters.

Johnson follows the leader, moving in a low crouch behind Chuck and sweeping the area for danger with his rifle. Builder hefts his wrench in the room and has a look on his face that says he's unsure of this course of action. Viona peeks out the door reluctantly looking every which direction for danger.

She nods toward the hill, "the mountain exit is the closest exit from the observatory, but the longest from the prototype's location...". She looks thoughtful for a second, glancing around at the ceiling, she whispers, "I can say more if we continue, not here though, he listens". She speaks up again, "The most direct route to our destination is the far exit from us, the North exit...that means trekking 2 miles through the observatory".

Viona gulps, "It's nearly 2 square miles...there are six exits...normally".

Hudson nods and inhales deeply but nearly recoils from what hits him. So many smells he never knew existed. He could smell the wild flowers, the trees, even the water...and something else. Something that made his noise twitch. Instinctively he knew what it was. The Infection.

He hears the calls of the wild birds and monkeys and looking around he can even see some of them flying in the air above and a couple monkeys in the distance jumping from tree to tree. They appear to be normal monkeys.

Lily sees and hears much the same. However she can see a little better than Hudson can from her angle, the small monkeys jumping from the branches are normal monkeys, not Infected...or at least they show no outward visual signs of being Infected as every other mammal has.

"Well...",Johnson says,"Where to"?

Viona shrugs. "As I said. there are six exits. North, South, West, and East, one tunnel in the middle of the jungle and one emergency tunnel in that small mountain there", she points to the large rocky hill jutting out from the forest.

Chuck approaches the door to peer through the window but as he approaches the door opens itself...or the Rook opens it, either way it slides all the way open and he sees more than he bargained for.

The observatory is beautiful. Magical. Somehow humans transported a section of rain forest to an underground facility. A HUGE facility. Trees sprout up hundreds of feet into the air into a simulated blue sky while vines dangle from limbs in a gentle breeze. Immediately warm humidity hits him in the face like walking into a sauna. Flora of every kind assaults his eyes, plants he has never seen before in his life and to the east a small hill, practically a tiny mountain of rock stands even with everything else in the observatory.

Lily's mouth drops from where she is standing near him. She can't see as much because Chuck is blocking the view but the sounds of a jungle are emanating from within. The sound of running water, creaking trees, and the scattered calls of tropical birds and small monkeys echo throughout the giant observatory.

Thankfully, the screeches she hears doesn't sound like the screeching of the Infected. Chuck sees no visual threats either...although in this place, anything could hide.

Straight ahead Chuck sees a small river, maybe ten feet wide, with a small rope bridge going over it. To his left a thick patch of bushes that covers the ground and to the far right several boulders that seem to lead up to a mountain path.

Johnson steps forward and peeks past Chuck. "Holy shit...".

"No, no, it is an observatory, not a lab...I mean we used their DNA for experiments but nothing virus related. However if the virus has spread there as it has everywhere else...the constitution of the gorilla's, if they have mutated...they will be more powerful than anything encountered so far".

Hudson gauges her reactions. She's telling the truth. While they may have not directly involved the apes in experiments they have probably turned and if so...the next part of their journey was going to be very, very dangerous.

"The observatory is HUGE", Viona says. "Maybe we can sneak around any dangers". She doesn't look convinced though. Johnson shakes his head and mutters curses softly.

As soon as Hudson's words are out of his mouth he regrets the question. Viona is trembling. He can smell the fear coming off her, a sickly sweet and sulphur smell.

"That's...that's a door to the gorilla observatory".

Chuck's words still echo in the air as Hudson takes a quick scan at his surroundings. His eye sight, ever keen, misses no details. The coast is clear, that much is certain, all the doors in the disorientating hallways were closed and if The Rook wanted nothing to greet them then nothing would greet them. The question was how long until that lasted? Hudson hears nothing, the eerie silence has returned, only broken by Lily's voice as she speaks.

Then Hudson takes a sniff and discovers another world. He smells...people. The smells of Viona, Chuck, Builder, Lily, and Johnson, and perhaps himself mingle together. He can't quite place them apart yet. But more so he realized has smelling something else from them... fear, anxiety, confidence, sadness, but he couldn't place those even more. This ability of his needed much practice if he was to make heads from tails, for the moment he was more confused and sure of anything.

Lily finishes speaking and the hologram of the rook nods in return, smiling in way that could set a man to unease. He disappears, leaving the party alone with only one door way opened to them...straight ahead.

Johnson peeks into the room. "It's clear". Hudson nods, wiping his nose. Looking inside the room the party can see the room appears to be a locker room of some sort, a separate area off to the side having open showers. The doors ahead are pure white like the walls and have blue numbers on the front of them reading 1304.
