D&D 5e / Unearthed Arcana ... give me fluff or give me undeath
« on: October 04, 2019, 02:53:18 PM »
(hey blame the naming on Wilb right?)

https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/unearthed-arcana/cleric-druid-wizard

Eyes of the Night probably needs slightly better wording, but is right up the alley for a Radar build.
Vigilant Blessing could be parsed to use In-combat = roll initiative, as your action touch someone who low rolled or is surprised.  I doubt they intended this, but it doesn't seem too powerful to not go ahead and use it.

Wildfire Spirit scales =  :clap

Onomancy = OK stab at early Truenamer port+.
Oh No -mancy = aDMg uses his "magic" to manipulate the words that encompass existence.
 :)

found the giantitp skill ranks thread
http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=20794467&postcount=26
... this one works, and it's official.

So that's X 2 with 3 feats locked up for a bit.

Would any of the item creation cost reduction feats work on the Gnome Arti abilities? It somewhat seems not.

Any of the general cost reducer feats would work, provided they aren't Arcane specific or Divine specific.
Any of the 3.5e Artificer feats should work too (with no more than a wink and a nod ; hey it's a artificer so yeah).

Anything non-arty class specific won't work.
raw Magic Mantle is quite near to T.O. to make excuses that it would work, and it would, but there's almost nothing to do that with ; i.e. a waste.

Yeah the skills are a little hinky.

3.0e Alchemy
3.5e Craft(Alchemy)
= easy

3.0e Knowledge(Architecture) + Knowledge(Engineering)
3.5e Knowledge(Architecture+Engineering)
= saves the ranks, rules as intended.

Getting a craft as a class skill from this list :
Craft (armorsmithing, blacksmithing, gemcutting, locksmithing, metalworking, trapmaking, or weaponmaking)
can be done the way you're going about it.

... but ... getting to the 8 ranks part early (!) requires some stretching.
Major Bloodline is one way.
Primary Contact feat, and it's prereq Favored feat, is the ~famous "That Feat In Cityscape" way.
Luckily both feat can be retrained away in one level or two.

Otherwise you gotta go PLZ's bard cheese, or worse.

Only real official way to craft partially chaged Wands,
was perhaps the only thing about the class of note.

There was an errata, but buried.  It's just one line too.
Popped up in the giantitp Iron Chef post #25.
http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?571065-Iron-Chef-Optimisation-Challenge-in-the-Playground-XCV
... does make a (cough) small difference.

I couldn't ditch using cheese to make one of these.
Feat Rogue 2 + Cleric 3 heighten, to get in.
Then take 2 Rebuilds, so it's Rogue 1 / Cleric 1 / GArty 7 or 9 or 10 / then what?
idk

options
Nar Demonbinder with list expander prcs
Bard 2 instead of rogue, into Sub Chord
weird limited way into Shadowcraft Gnome goodies (which I'm clueless about)

r.a.i. + errata
Skill Class 1 / X 3 / Skill Class +1 / GA +X , with another caster supplying the CL = craft nearly anything.
It's Tier 5 but useful in an otherwise useless kind of way.
Devices aren't usable with Spellcraft style scroll casting, just UMD.

troacttid on giantitp has an index of prcs that advance casting non-class specific, which "ought" to work on GA.
Ought to.

So as expected, it wouldn't come out, surgery time.

Surgery for that basically involves shoving a catheter up your urethra and blowing the damn thing up with lasers.

I should know in a week or two what the stone is made out of.

Also, protip if any of you ever undergoes the procedure: run a hot shower, hot as you can manage, and pee then after taking a hit of your painkiller of choice.

Turns out you can confuse your brain because the pain from peeing down a damaged urethra is signaled in terms of temperature. So you can fool your brain into thinking your pee is not as hot if there's hot water cascading down your back. Doesn't eliminate the pain but makes it ridiculously more manageable.

And I was just going to eat some Sushi ...

Maybe, sort of, not yet, idk.

“To our knowledge, this experiment marks the first computation that can only be performed on a quantum processor,” the Google researchers wrote.
Bolding is mine.  Curious milestone.

This site claims to have snagged a copy of the original paper :
http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewsr.html?pid=52862
... very dense with jargon and detail.

Subtleties are mostly lost on me (at this point),
but Math had a proof a few years back, that couldn't
be hand checked rather had to be computer processed.
I presume this is on the same conceptual trajectory.

Soulbow PrC is weird.
I think it presumes the Soulknife proficiency transfers over to the ~Arrow.
I think the old wotc psi board just ignored this as yet another CPsi-ism.

Any number of PrCs add a limited # of weapons to the list.

Kidney stone = mega ouch.  Hope it goes well.

Or the subplot line of "The Girl with All the Gifts".

Hey it takes real guts to come forward about Bipolar.

And it very much explains most previous self-medicating.

Welcome to the next phase of your life, janky transition and all.

D&D 5e / Re: Fun Finds: 5e Edition
« on: September 13, 2019, 04:18:38 PM »

Sorry didn't read the whole thread but ...

...any fun finds for single-class Warlocks?

Somebody reads the whole thread, what?

Warlocks kinda have some fun finds.
Blade = don't ; except if Hexblade is available.  <or if your table is mostly beer+pretzels>
Chain = Helicoptor for Gnomes and Halflings = semi-official naughty warning from the Devs
Tome = hand the tome to the Rogue Thief 13, go take a vacation while they do most of your thing

Disguise Self at-will + Disguise Kit + Expertise + 100 gp custom magic item disguise kit sub + Friends cantrip = total chaos in a city
Chain can be replicated by "Leadership" directly http://minmaxforum.com/index.php?topic=18779.0
... and this version of a Warlock is most different and more versatile, not quite at dipping Sorc 2 or 3 though.

The very first UA Eberron back in '15 had a Dragonmark that gives Halflings RopeTrick at level 5.
Use that to guarantee Short Rests, you only get the 1 other slot, but you can effectively short rest nova.
Some of the most recent Demons have Dispel at-will, which obviously counters it.
But even building an entire party around Short Rests doesn't result in too much powah (says who?).

Spamming a limited Hold Monster is kinda boring but potentially late level campaign breaking.
Sleep on 6 of 6 early encounters is also kinda boring, but straightforward r.a.i.

When you put it that way ...  :)

"+ Level" isn't on that list.
"trained only skill check" I don't know zip about to comment.

I vaguely recall a build circa pre-2004 that had a Negative AC to trigger all sorts of stuff.
Otto the Bugbear, was maybe the author, idk too hazy at this point ; clearly didn't catch on.

I do think the intentional Negative build part, is not something that non-informed would do.
Plus the part of a Level 1 + Skill N + Class ability, being better than Level 20 + Anti-Skill N
kinda keeps this at bay.

139
tighter math on Skills

(more) functional Stealth system

Warlock , Psi-something , maybe Artificer (or -ish)

the Warlord they hadn't really thought of yet, but party buffing has always been a thing, perhaps this is Functional Gish territory

Prc's that function as missing class features, for casters CSW

Opinions?
Opinions ?!

Snowsavant described the Skills system kinda like a funnel above level 10.
There's some minor grumpyness on paizo forums about :
"Level 20 + Skill N" is somehow <<<< than "Level 1 + Skill N + Class Ability".
idk squat, but it seems like a type of role-protection.

1 maybe t.o.-ish build has popped up.  Let's call it :  Idiot MacGyver
JaseX gets the kudo, and graystone + Paradozen extend it.
https://paizo.com/threads/rzs42omn?Bards-Eclectic-Skill-Untrained-Improvisation

Hopefully they don't nerf the snot out of it, because it looks like enough of a "build Tax"
that no one has actually tried to make a real solid build of the rest of it.  Or play it.
