Wizards decided to permanently deny us our Giff adventurers and shove some bootleg elephant crap (http://dnd.wizards.com/articles/unearthed-arcana/races-ravnica) in our general direction...
Vedalken are absurd, Simic can use Medium armor competently (1st time in this edition) and the rest are absurd meh, like a 8 feet 400 pounds medium race...

Whaaat? Noooo.
They are the master blue-aligned race, like superior elves, it's not like being the new Mary Sue good at magic and artifice would be broken... Right?
In all seriousness. +2 Int & +1 Wis, Advantage on all mental Saves as a racial trait and you also get one Skill & Tool Prof plus when you roll them you get an extra +1d4 bonus. It's a very useful Race for Rogues, Wizards, and even beatsticks who decide the constant advantage in Saves they lack Prof in is worth missing out on +2 Str.

Yes, and they have it. It lets you count as one size category larger when determining carrying capacity. :banghead

It's possible something similar is buried
within a Monster entry somewhere, idk.
Vedalken are x2 height Gnomes (wink).
The +d4 is the rolled proficiency thingy
elsewhere, but frozen at lowest tier.
They've effectively got Double Prof early.
Restricted to 1 of the 6 specific skills.
Good enough for any number of builds.
Tools expansion in XGE are a must.

Might be UA, I swore I seen it before but I could not place my finger on it.
Just remember that even through it's a flat bonus, it stacks with double prof & Bless letting you access some really nice bonuses at the first level. It's like Skyrim, just steal everyone's pants ^_^

Well, they can apply those advantages to non-spell saves, so it gets a little bit more utility, right? What useful saves they get advantage on that gnomes pass?

SorO ... yeah it's in the DMG alt proficiency roll instead of set value, goes up with normal prof +4 = d8 , +5 = d10 etc
don't make me get my dmg* out (of storage)
Wilb ... say like ghost and dragon fear are Wis saves or Frightened, lots of similars / minor dumpster dive
