The true face of 5e.
My thoughts exactly ... (first time for everything, eh)

I still have my 1e stuff.
Most of them rather dog-eared from tweenager use.

Are they gonna have a 1e SRD ...  :blush ... pretty please ...  :bigeyes ?!

By-the-way ... there's  a rather new Mearls v Trollman dust-up
floating around out there. I didn't get the link fast enough.
Oh boy(s).

Tried the Way back machine with the url:  http://community.wizards.com/forumhandler?t=538951

No luck sadly
Dang.
I tried the older boards1.wizard address without the forumhandler switch-o.
Didn't work.

It's in there ... somewhere (?!)
Might need: gleemax or archive or wotc_archive or who knows wtf !!

Detect Evil ... is quite objective.
It just is - the rules sez so.
You can beat it by hiding your aura in various ways.

4e doesn't have Detect Evil ; alignment
seems to be almost nothing but a hint of fluff.

I watched yesterday's Republican Presidential Debate.  The audience was sick.

One of the interviewers mentioned that Mitt Romney's father was born in Mexico.

Audience: "BOOOOO!!!"

Ron Paul says that we should do unto others as we would have them do unto us in the realm of foreign policy.

Audience:  "BOOOOO!!!"

Juan Williams asks Newt Gingrich if he's deliberately appealing to racial resentment when he portrays African-Americans as lazy people on welfare.

Audience: "BOOOOOO!!!" to Juan Williams.

Newt Gingrich suggests that poor  and minority children should be paid to scrub the toilets of rich kids in rich schools.

Audience: *Gives Newt Gingrich Standing Ovation*

Forget the candidates, the audience is the nuttiest of them all!

This.
Part of the Gingrich surge, is because South Carolina
is right next door to his native Georgia. He knows how
to talk and run there. Playing straight to the crowd = easy money.

The thing that's weird about trying to put the various candidates into
whatever "position" box, is most of their positions are sheer posturing.
Obama has been up against the use of the Senate Filibuster on every bill.
Mr. 60% for a while was Joe Lieberman. Then Ted Kennedy died,
but the most important campaign issue was how well the Dem. Woman
knew Curt Schilling the baseball pitcher.
The centrist Repub winner was in on every vote. Obama's
performance for his 2nd year of the presidency is based on that.
Yes it's ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. It ain't democracy.

Meanwhile, the Social Conservatives have no way of convincing
middle of the road Democrats to join them, over a filibuster.
There are certain issues that can't make it over that Wall at all.

Off Topic Fun / Re: Non-Migrant Visas (US)
« on: January 19, 2012, 05:24:22 PM »
It is not supposed to be understand-able. Intentionally. ( no wink !! )

There is still a shortage of Nurses, and there are colleges with short
1 year or so bridge programs between say Social Work and Nursing.
I don't know Philadelphia but there are at least 5 division 1 schools there.
~7 million people metro area, is plenty of work of that type.
Philly has one of the immigration headquarters where visa processing happens.
Convenient ... well let's not get that excited.

Careful who or what you get help from.
Hershey PA has the Hershey's Kisses chocolate factory,
that had front page new coverage about striking workers.
Hard Labor scam, too many hours, too little pay, legally.
I'm not saying you'd get roped into something like that, but it happens.

[partial tangent]

I had no idea this was happening (= clueless).
I go to Google. It's got the blackout bar.
I figure somethings up. (brilliant ! gameologists that I am)
1st search comes up their mini-protest search not accomplished.
2nd search came up like normal.
I wanted to go to Wiki for some car info (complicated RL stuff).
1st search comes up their protest page.
I guess it'll be like google, and try a 2nd search but get the same page.

So I use google cache ; problem solved.

The wayback machine will have it, but you need the thread number.
In this case it's 538951 ; or t-538951 depending on which board biff it's been through.

Heh ... that's where all these twilight girls got their ideas.

I want to "die" and come back as your vampire love slave  :love

Life sucks !! (in a good way)
After Life is even more lovey-dovey.

Every pre-teen Half-Orc knows this.

The breeding rules aren't supposed to make sense.
Saying 1/2 + 1/2 on a 1 can't happen is kinda Real-Life-ist thinking.
 ;)

Mommy, where do babies come from?
Aww sugarkins, first daddy gets mommy some firewine ...  :huh
... and later the village priest says a wizard cast a summoning spell inside your house.
Then mommy succeeds a Knowledge check, and asks the priest how he knew that.
But mommy, I still don't know where babies come from.
Oh right, you asked "where" and I told you "how". Umm ... some babies
come from the Plane Of Shadow, like your sister

If you've played much 4e
... the Companion Characters in DMG2
are nearly too simple. But certainly playable.

I think they should bring in more fan-created campaign settings, like what they did with Eberron.  I found Eberron to be interesting and awesome, and I'd love more rich campaign worlds to play with.
You know what would be interesting?  If they could have maybe 3 or 5 different settings representing different "magic level" play-styles.  Eberron would be a good example of a High/Prevalent Magic setting, while Greyhawk could be the "standard" D&D magic level setting where you might be able to find a few magic shops, and can fairly easily commission items.

What they really need is a good example of a "Low-Magic" setting.  That type of world seems relatively popular with DM's (and even some groups), but because there are no good examples to emulate within D&D, most DM's screw it up and you end up with 15th level fighters begging for +1 swords, and some of the players end up getting screwed in the process.

There are ways to pull off such a thing without screwing the players or their fun, but many DM's seem oblivious to their need to do anything other than remove most magic items.  I know there are home-made settings out there that can do this concept well, but I think it would help a lot of gaming groups if there were such a setting in print, that they could at least point to as the example of the way such a setting can be pulled off without unbalancing casters vs. non-casters even worse than it already is.

+1 ... and/or hide it in plain sight.

Calling the high end "Epic" hasn't worked so well.
Calling the low end "Heroic" doesn't work like gamer presuppositions say they should.
Squeezing these into almost entirely separate game systems = Good.

2e Planescape was a semi-high end game setting.
Great fluff, I say the best the game has done (but that's just me).
2e crunch is kinda off , big deal , that's fixable.

Everybody knows Harry Potter.
Early with the kiddies = super low end.
"My wand (implement) works 40% of the time, and can target Chaos Fey now !!"
Awesome ... hey click on hannah montana.

Ha.
That is completely ridiculous ; but it's happened before and on going.
Technically you want that level of attention to thingy X.

I wonder if they'll use a metacrawler / keyword -type tracker,
just to sort through all the muck that new board will generate.
The pre release 4e board was so much nonsense.

10 000 people !@$# about Lawful Good alignment
52 people talk about linear math mechanics.
That kind of thing.

General D&D Discussion / Re: Ambassador and Archaeologist
« on: January 17, 2012, 06:08:27 PM »
Indiana Jones or Laura Croft = stereotype adventurer archaeologist
Whip is too stereotyped. IJ gets into bar fights like a Monk (not like 3e monk tho')
Could find more powerful magic items, than most Wizard can whip up.
[ Commoner 1 + Artifact ] = starting point to try for balance.

Ambassador is kinda tough. "Diplomacy" equivalent at State or Army level.
Non-combat but still for Encounters , based enchantments / telepathy.
Deanna Troi on occasion, maybe.
Luck bonuses (!!) , some divinations , decipher script , some roguish stuff.
Potions of happy beer / potions of sign this treaty.
Needs to be able to Escape, sometimes a lot.
Extra travel capabilities. Former Army leader or Thrallherd or Summoner.
??

Board Business / Re: Clearing up any confusion
« on: January 17, 2012, 05:46:59 PM »

:D ... You mean like when they clarified which one was Josh ??

I'm behind baldy.
There is a huge difference between:

-posting something slightly off topic - "speaking of gobots I just watchedthe movie"
-posting something off topic - "transformers are better"
-the discussion evolving - "evil gobots are the best"
and
-posting to disrupt the thread - "I am the meta gobot master and you all meta suck"

Slightly Off topic And evolution are fine.  Don't do the other two.

It makes it impossible to have a discussion when someone is yelling in your face.

I am in favor of any system where non contributors cant drown out the people who are trying to do something and have fun with it.

So ... umm ...  :??? ... behind "baldy" is a (real) "transformer" = Josh

I'm still confused ; but that would be really awesome.

The gawd is a secret.
There's a secret about the so-called "afterlife".
The evidence is a deliberate lie, which the secrets gawd has pierced.
What really happens (-ed) is a super secret.
Does the afterlife exist or not exist ... you don't know, it's a secret.

Handbook Discussion / Re: The Unofficial Artificer Handbook Discussion
« on: January 16, 2012, 07:02:28 PM »
Good idea getting the "3.0" out of the title.
This is not for 3.0e Lantan Artificers.
The 3.0 refers to how many versions of this
the original author went through.

Borg286 ...had the most recent BG handbook.
He implied the slightly polemical Tier Zero
in the title, generating quite the !@$# storm.

Psi Arty is also NOT addressed in this. And it shouldn't.
Psi Arty's wait for their Prince to come ...
 :P

It's worth mentioning the Infinity is an Aleph Zero.
I don't have near enough High Math mojo,
to describe what Aleph One is or why it's different
from Aleph Zero. Anyone trying to get that number
via the D&D rule set, is up against not just doing it,
but also explaining what it is.
Remains quite a cookie, for both Pun-pun lovers and haters.

... Size and Number of Bodies: Brown Mold's 'double in size near fire ability' + a continuous fire + Ochre Jelly's Split(Ex) + Continuous electrical damage + NI hit points + Hivemind + Living Wall's Amalgam(?) (from Dr343) resulting in a nigh-infinite number of nigh-infinitely large Pun-Puns that all have one mind and can count as one or multiple people depending on which is more advantageous at the time ...
Oh that's just sneaky  :tongue

... well ... doing a psicrystal Loop with Thrallherd
should get every person alive up to a certain level.
"Should".
There ought to be a response by various grumpy authorities.
If there's no one left to thrall, except for the psychotic'ly loyal
Cleric of Thor, and you go ahead and thrall him = mad Thor.

Arty or Druid that focuses on Summoning
Summoner Wizard type
Mind's Eye update on the AC focused Psion that goes Thrallherd
... sure mix and match.
Heck you could stick a Psion 1 / Thrallherd 1 on top of 18 levels of whatever.
