Fused armor destroyed: what happens?
« on: November 14, 2013, 10:37:38 PM »
At 8th level, a bone knights bonecraft armor fuses to their body. What happens when this armor is sundered or disintegrated?
Please, call me Count :).

SRD says that you can only sunder a shield or weapon.  the last line of the entry specifically calls out not being able to sunder armour.

And as for the disintegrate, it either effects a creature or an object.
Creature is reduced to 0 or less it gets powderized, it's equipment is unaffected.
Is the armour now part of you or still considered an object?

Objects get disintegrated in a 10ft cube of non-living matter.
Non-living matter means you would be fine if they targeted your armour.

Would disintegrating it count as removing it, thus killing you?

I think I would go with, if it targeted you, it would be fine.  If it was the target, and failed it's save then you both die.

Armor can still be damaged and destroyed through certain specifically targeted spells and effects and through failing a saving throw on a natural 1. Bone Knight doesn't do anything to change that, does it?

No. If you have the exoskeleton level and this happens, the character dies, no save.

Having the armor destroyed isn't necessarily the same as having it removed though.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

I think the big question is: is the fused armor still separate from the character? or not?

I'm a bit on a limb here, seeing good arguments on both sides of the question.

IMO, the armor can't be removed, but isn't exactly a part of the character like an arm or a leg, so i would say it's a separate entity. That being said, if destroyed, i wouldn't count it as "removed" for purposes of killing the character. A bit like breaking a tortoise's shell doesn't necessarily kill the animal (but would definitelly hurt and the poor animal would eventually die, so don't do it!)
It could be replaced and regain it's lost abilities.
