Are there still openings in this game? If so, I'd like to try a Hexblade. They're probably the weakest of the tier 4s and as long as I don't optimize him much I should be able to party with tier 5s with no problem.

We do have openings, but I'm not sure Hexblade would be allowed.  It has more optimization potential (Alter Self comes to mind) which is part of the reason it's T4.  I'll mention your interest in the OOC though in case Sleepy misses this.

Okay, thanks.

If Hexblade isn't allowed I'd probably go with Paladin

I am glad he did. I never check this thread anymore lol. So what about Hexblade makes you want to play one? We may be able to find a similar class in T5-T6

The major thing that I wanted to do was stack debuffs on people. Namely Hexblade's Curse + Dark Companion + Dreadful Wrath
If there is anything specific you don't want me to use, Jack mentioned Alter Self/Polymorph, just let me know and I won't use it.

I'm also starting to like the idea of going Paladin -> Gray Guard, particularly in a party with other LG types.

Paladin would be fine, and nothing stops them from taking dreadful wrath. Since you were looking at debuffing, we could replace your special mount with the Hexblade's dark guardian.

If I go with Paladin, I would focus more on Smite Evil. I would probably take the Charging Smite ACF to replace the mount.

Since you seem a little wary of Hexblade, I'll probably go with Paladin. I'll post a sheet for you to look over in a little while.

Edit:
Here are

James Valoric
and
Seth Teivel

I went ahead and made both.

Seth would be going straight Hexblade and would probably take Extra Curse (again) and Power Attack for his next two feats.

James would be going Paladin 5 -> Grey Guard and would probably take Extra Smiting as his level 6 feat. Haven't decided on a level 3 yet, I'll probably keep it simple and just go with Cleave.

If you're set on charging then Improved Bull Rush into Shock Trooper is the most common route, assuming you're fine with that cookie cutter option.

I know, but I'm trying to go with something a little different. Since this game is low-tier, I'm hoping I'll be able to get by with sub-par fighting styles that I normally don't use.

You should be fine for the most part, though low tier does not always mean less effective. Gindar the bugbear certainly comes to mind  :plotting

So, am I good to go with the Hexblade, or should I play the Paladin?

Gindar's case was the advantage of a reach weapon and racial HD I would assume.  Plus low levels suck...  lol

Sorry, Hexblade is t4, so please play the paladin.

Yeah, there wasn't much to Gindar lol. Gave him the elite stat block and one level of fighter.

Okay, I'll post him over in the main thread with the other character sheets and start working on his background.
