Huh ... well o.k. there wasn't a guide for UD before, so why not !

The better places to put essentia occur at levels
3 7 and 10, and the not betters happen at 1 and 9.
The "good" ~progression is not that far off the
normal progression of new shaping locations.

So yeah, it's maybe a tier down on Incarnate or Totemist.
Totally playable in Tier 4 or 5 campaigns.

If you were worried about skill access, the "Able Learner" feat is the go-to solution.  You can combine this with things like Factotum or Skill Prodigy for more skill monkey ability.

It's pretty easy to be a skill monkey.

Best,
David

(tangent) ... FrankT is doing a hangover review right now of MOI.

Interesting point that MOI , TOB and TOM were all proto-4e trial fliers.

Added a build, the able learner feat, factotum and human paragon.

@awaken_D_M_golem: exactly what I was thinking, there wasn't one, so why not make one. It is indeed playable in many campaings. Thanks for the link to the review btw, it's a good read, especially interesting the backgrounds on how the design proces went in those years (orcus etc.)

@DavidWL: thanks for the suggestions!

Not really optimal, but kind of a funny build for Umbral Disciple: (possibly Azurin) Generic Expert (UA) 1/ Thief of Life (FoE) 10/ Umbral Disciple 9
