Green Temple
« on: July 10, 2014, 01:43:21 PM »
And end up in a place that looks like it belongs in a museum.  Or at least an Indiana Jones movie.  The floor, walls, and ceiling are made of stone and carved with strange glyphs.  Covering moss and scrabbling roots give the stone a distinctly overgrown feeling and the occasional crack in the stone that glows with a red heat gives it another feeling all together.

Behind you lies the Gate you came through.  With a shudder, a stone slab rises up, preventing you from heading back through it.

Before lies a rather long hall.  You can faintly make out a light at the end of it.

Good luck~

I turn to look at the stone slab. "Huh. That's...new."
“Hast thou not felt in forest gloom, as gloaming falls on dark-some dells, when comes a whisper, hum and hiss; savage growling sounds a-near, dazzling flashes around thee flicker, whirring waxes and fills thine ears: has thou not felt then grisly horrors that grip thee and hold thee?”

Cory sighs.  "Let's be careful, shall we?" he says.

I shrug. "Fair enough." I point dramatically ahead of us. "Onwards!"

You walk onwards, and as you do, the corridor you're in gets brighter.  Eventually, you walk into another hallway, stretching out perpendicular to the first.  The side of the hallway on the same side as the corridor you just emerged from is covered in the same solid stone, moss, and glowing cracks as the corridor you just emerged from.  The side facing you, on the other hand, appears to be made mostly of open arches, letting in a good deal of natural light.

To the left the corridor appears to head down, and to the right it appears to head up.  Looking out through the arches, you're pretty sure the corridor wraps around like a giant spiral, forming a bowl-like enclosure.  You appear to be half-way up.

"So, which way do you want to, Be--Your Majesty?" Cory asks, with a bit of a laugh.

I point upwards dramatically. "To the top, as befits a queen!"

The Knight bows.  "Then I shall be happy to escort you, my Queen," he nods to Becca, "and my lady," to Ana.

You take the upper path and start walking.  Around and around and around and oh the path splits again.  You can keep going up or you can turn off and walk into this tunnel over here.

I look at the tunnel. "Well," I muse, "up is up. We know that. The tunnel, however, could go anywhere." I brush my hair to the side distractedly. "Besides, it's more likely to dead end sooner."

You start walking through the tunnel.  Like the tunnel you started in, its fairly dark, lit only by the glowing cracks in the walls.  After a bit more walking, however, you notice another light in the distance.  Eventually, you emerge from the tunnel onto a massive bridge reaching out into the distance.  Looking behind you you can see the bowl-like temple structure reaching up into the sky.  Looking out you can't even make out the end of the bridge.  Looking down you can see where the temple reaches the ground, a fairly tranquil-looking meadowy plain.

Ana: Wow~
Ana: Doesn't this look like the sort of bridge that would break away behind you~?

I give Ana a look. "Who ever heard of a bridge doing something like that? If it's even halfway well-constructed, it'll hold our weight without difficulty."

"Why would you say that?" Cory demands.

The Knight waves his objections aside.  "Then I shall go last, and we will look most dashing as we run across air."

Ana walks forward onto the bridge.

You start walking across the bridge.  Its really quite high up.  Looking down, you can see even more of the world below.  As you saw before, its basically just a large, peaceful looking meadow, but you can now see various ruins scattered here and there.  The large bowl-like temple you came from is by far the largest of the ruins, though.

After you get about halfway across, you hear a faint noise from the side of the bridge you came from.

Ana: I thought so~

Its a bit far away, but you can just make out the part of the bridge connected to the temple crumble and fall away.  Its a good thing this bridge is held up by arches, otherwise the whole thing would have fallen away.  Its less good that those arches also seem to be crumbling...

Ana: We should pick up the pace~
