I totally know what you mean Sneer. That's exactly why I started the game at a lower level :D

That tends to be one of my biggest problems too.  Picking items and then spells.  It was a very long time before I finally accepted that the advantages of specialization outweigh the banned schools, and even now I am often hesitant to specialize, although the presence of Abrupt Jaunt has really been a major tipping point toward that.  And I still have yet to play a limited list caster in any game that has gone on for any significant amount of time.

Although I dislike the lowest levels, sometimes I breathe a sigh of relief if the game starts at level 1, since I don't have to worry about equipment (cause I can't afford any!) and spell selection is from a much more limited pool.

As for the character sheet, yeah.  I started adding in a Reference Page field about a half-dozen revisions ago when I got tired of trying to remember what book that thing I wrote on my sheet is from so I could check the rules/explain to the DM/etc.  The entire sheet is one I've been evolving slowly since AD&D 2nd Edition - it's actually had more than 20 revisions, but I reset the counter when I overhauled it into a 3.5 sheet.  And up to the Mark IX, it has been pure HTML that I had to edit by hand.  This version is finally built on an excel spreadsheet so it can automatically calculate many of those fields.

Updated the build, due to an error Garryl pointed out. I wound up taking Spellthief at 1st level after all. Yay for skill points!  :D

If I go Focused Specialist, and take Uncanny Forethought, can I leave my bonus specialist spell slots open and use them to cast any spell with Uncanny Forethought? Or do I have to use my general spell slots for that? If I can't, I will go just normal generalist or normal diviner specialist.

Since neither DM is replying to my PM, I'll have to withdraw my interest as well. My character obviously interests neither of you.
Hmm.

Wow harsh!  I replied to one of your PM's... I've had a lot going on recently.
If you want to withdraw feel free. If you want to go ahead and post your questions here in the thread that would probably help them get addressed.

Sorry SDK... I got a lot of PMs recently and yours got lost in the shuffle.

I'm ok with the LA thing, especially with no buyoff, but I think dna1 should be the final arbiter of that one.

I understand, but withdrawing nonetheless. One way or the other, this would have an effect on my (not) getting picked and I'd rather (fail to) get into a game solely on the merit of my character.
Hmm.

Well just RAW it looks like it only applies to bonus spells specifically from your Intelligence bonus. How many bonus specialist slots do you have?

The way the feat works is that you can leave a number of slots equal to your intelligence modifier empty, and later spontaneously cast either a mastered spell (as a standard action) or any spell you know (full-round action) out of those slots.
(click to show/hide)

My question was what are the limitations on which slots I can leave open to use with this? Can they be my specialist wizard slots, which normally can only be used to prepare spells from my specialty school? If so, can I still use them to cast any spell? Or does the spell I cast spontaneously still have to be from my specialist school?

If I go with a normal specialist, I'd only have 1 specialist spell slot per spell level. If I went with a Focused Specialist, I'd have 3 specialist slots per spell level. I'd still be limited to a number of slots equal to my Int mod to leave open for use with the feat. I'm just curious which slots I could use for this, and if the specialist restriction would still apply...

I really shouldn't have even asked this question. If I were the DM, I'd say that if you used specialist slots for this that you'd still be restricted to casting spells from your specialist school with them. I had another DM rule that I could use them to cast anything, though, which is why I asked.

I'll go with the more conservative assumption for this game, since you asked us to keep it to moderate optimization. So I'll just be playing a normal specialist (diviner), instead of a focused specialist. And I'll assume that I can only use my specialist slots for divination spells, even if I leave them empty for use with Uncanny Forethought.

I believe this is complete now: Mark X Character Record Sheet: Tyralisa Sen'zarin

As always, let me know if something needs to be changed.  And if someone spots something I missed, should probably have, you know, the old 'Why didn't she...' or 'why...' sort of thing, do mention it, cause I tend to overlook things from time to time even while being excruciatingly detailed somewhere else.

Mostly done. Need to pick skills, and tidy up, and also writeup a proper backstory and description, but I'm already working on that.

It says in the world writeup that damaging spells as well as those that can influence behavior are outlawed. How strictly is this enforced? Could you get into trouble for just having knowledge of such spells? So should wizards take precautions to disguise/hide spellbooks containing them, for example?

Edit: Skills done. Gear done. Just need to write down his backstory and description, really. I PMed you about backstory ideas, dna1.

Some spells are illegal in Gratis. Those spells can have severe consequences, or none. Just depending on who you are, and who you run into.
Its well known that most of the people in the Imperium consider them selves above the law. Resulting in frequent abuse of rules and status.
Just got off work. Super tired :D
I will post here more either later when the twins wake me up. Or in the morning :D :D :D
