all-homebrew game?
« on: November 27, 2011, 12:26:09 PM »
I know how hard it is to find a DM for any game... I'm running too many games right now, so I just can't.  But I like the idea of a game featuring all-homebrew classes (no classes from an official source allowed without permission).  I personally have two homebrew base classes to try out (warpsoul and ritualist).

Would anyone else be interested in something like this?  Would anyone like to run it?

Bozwevial has one called "The Fanged Crater" which he was going to restart on here that is all homebrew. Here's the thread. The old one can be found in the PbP section of the old brililantgameologists boards. I'd love to see that get going again...

I am new here but I would also be interested in this. I would love to give the Spellshaping Codices a try.

I would definitely love to play an all homebrew campaign. Not really into the "all monster classes" campaign though.

I have no idea what's going on with Boz's campaign, so I'm totally open to this again.  I'd love to play a Warpsoul...

I have absurd amounts of homebrew classes many mine, many other peoples that I want to play as well.

I would love to play some of my own homebrew, even just for testing purposes.

I've got much the same issue. I always end up playing other people's homebrew before getting around to trying out my own, though.

So, what we need is a DM.

I would play, but there's many people already.
I would DM, but I've never even played pbp, let alone DMed.
If either happens to change(or if the Dm likes to have many players, or if I don't need to be qualified), I'm in.

I DM'ed PbP before I played.  It's similar to running in RL except slower paced and you have to write everything ;)

I am willing to try, if everyone wants me to.
(Is DM'ed supposed to have an apostrophe?)

I'll agree there. The prep for the game is slightly altered since you either need to post a map online as an image and keep updating it, or find some other way to keep track of where everyone is. It's not too difficult to make a simple map and post it to photobucket or something. But yeah, as sirpercival said, it's mostly about typing everything up instead of reading it out loud. And dealing with the slow rate of play.

I wouldn't want to pressure you into anything you're not comfortable doing, though.

I'm cool with it.

I have a few spare half-finished conworlds lying around. Can't be too hard to convert one into a campaign setting. I'll take a look tomorrow.

(Also, is DMed supposed to have an apostrophe?)

I'm sure there's some precedent, but I think in this case It's probably up to interpretation.

So, what sort of campaign rules would you set forth? If you want ideas for how most campaigns here are set up, just check a few threads out.

A few things to think about, for all of us:
HP: Average or Rolled?
Sources: Is it Homebrew only, or just all homebrew classes with options to mix published feats/etc with homebrew ones?
Traits/Flaws?
House rules?
Starting level? Starting GP?
etc. etc.

Also, how are stats generated?

My suggestion is to allow at least SOME published material, otherwise people are going to have problems with missing staples.  How are melee types going to survive without Power Attack, for example?

I'd agree with that, though it depends on your source for homebrew. Some homebrew melee types don't even really need power attack since their other class features make up for it. Still, I don't think it should be Homebrew-Only for everything.

Besides, while there are many classes I'd like to try, some of the ones I'm interested in most are still some of Oslecamo's monster classes. Not solely, but I'm always on the lookout for opportunities to play something from that list. :D

Still, lots of regular classes, and things I've been tinkering with myself, that could be very worth trying out.

If there are room for an other player, I'd be ok to come to playtest some homebrew. I don't have any yet to test, but I'm sure I'll find some here that will catch my eye.
