"I will also go," Tanthalus says.  "It sounds like there is much good that can be done."

"I have read that 30 years ago a dwarf named Draigdurroch led a croup of warlocks in the creation of the tower you mention, and that it was encased in ice not long after."

"Clearly they were up to no good then to have such a thing occur to their tower." Troyas says after the warlock completes his explanation, "One should not delve into powers one does not understand, it always costs someone in the end."

After another few draws of his tea he puts the empty cup back on it's saucer and down to a nearby table, "I will arrange to send a letter of introduction ahead of you to Sundabar, letting it's Regent Council know to expect your arrival."

"Thank you Troyas.  That would be most appreciated.  Now, about that other matter - any luck finding someone capable of enacting a Raise Dead ritual?"

Eoffram frowns at the questions which puts lines in his more human features at odds with his elven half, "I fear you will not like the news there.
Do you remember an Elf who used to live here in Loudwater, Aenan Jalarisala, cleric of Corelleon?
he asks.

The name of the elf does remind you of someone you used to know in your past life and at confirmation the Councilman shows you a letter. He continues as you read the fine elvish script, "I was able to get in contact with him. He communed with his god and found that our friend, Kartanis, is at peace among the Seldarine. He says when a spirit does not want to return, to force it to do so would have some dire consequences."

Galadren frowns at the news, but nods his head.  His old friend deserved his peaceful rest, but damnit, he had a son!  How could he just abandon his child to find his own way in the world so that he could remain in paradise!?

"Then we shall let him sleep."

Galadren sighs, a rising pit in his stomach.  Before they left, he would have to finish what he started, and tell the boy the truth - his father was dead, and Galadren had lied to him.  It was unlikely to be a pleasant conversation.

(We can just time skip over that conversation if you'd like Melblen since that's likely to be mostly just a conversation between Galadren and the boy.  No need to hold things up if we can jump ahead to the adventure where everybody gets to participate!)

The group leaves town shortly after taking care of any remaining business, crossing the river and passing through a number of farms and orchards before wilder country takes over. The first day passes uneventfully, as does the night spent on the edge of the forest. Getting an early start the next morning, you travel deeper into the High Forest. As you move through the wood, the temperature drops steadily and a sharp wind carries an unseasonable promise of winter, even though the leaves have not even begun their annual autumn change.

More time passes, growing steadily colder the deeper into the wood you travel, until finally the sight of the stark white wood of the ring of albino trees that mark the boundary of the Dire Wood informs you that Draigdurroch Tower should be within a few miles of here. However, no landmarks from the maps you carry are visible to navigate by. Everything on the horizon is a solid blanket of white. A cold fog  seems to issue from the very heart of the dark forest and soon snowflakes begin to fall  from the steel gray sky. the way ahead is obscured, and soon the way behind you is overcome as well.

In minutes a winter storm whips around you and comes at you so fast that it both blocks sight and somehow threatens to mesmerize you with its chaotic patterns. A deep chill pervades the area which you were not prepared to travel in, making the dangerous cold ever more so.

"Well, this is unexpectedly sucky."

Galadren grouses, slapping as his arms to try to strike some warmth back into them.
Despite the heavy snow Galadren seems at home in the forest, and wades ahead of the group to scout - which in the instance of the swirling wall of snow, means he gets about two feet ahead of the group.

"I think there's some shelter we can take over this way!  That'll help us figure out where we should go from here to get out of this mess!"

Galadren shouts, continuing to slowly move forward.

The exposure to the freezing cold saps Galadren but he does locate a suitable windbreak for a brief respite from the winds.

Dunor squints in the driving snow and blowing winds. The sudden change could spell disastrous for the group, but the northerner had braved harsh storms before. Bracing himself, he forges on ahead through the snow, clearing a path with his shield for his comrades to follow.

Tulugaq and Dunor are used to travel in driving snow and wind and heartily trudge on as the big warrior pushes through heavy drifts. The storm does make it difficult for Tulugaq to concentrate enough to sense anything magical about this storm.

Shandien stops at the same time Tulugaq having the same idea to sense for magic in the strange storm. He is able to focus through the cold and wind and there is magic behind the storm. "This storm is not natural. The source of the magic is that way and it has some traces of fey power behind it. he shouts above the wind as he points out the direction.

Thespias trys to stay behind his big human companion to use his path. As the group tries to cross an icy pond he slips and slides head first into a large snow drift at the bank.

The intense cold saps strength from the halfling and the swordmage.

The movement on the fallen tree dislodges a heap of snow and buries the large warrior. It takes a long while for the group to dig him out again. By the time he is free of the snow, the storm lightens and only a few small snowflake dot the air around you. You are among some forested hills. The lower portions dotted here and there with small ponds or creeks quickly frozen over in the sudden onset of cold. You forge ahead now able to see enough landmarks to point you in the right direction.
