Me: "One of the nurses told me she heard you talking in your room last night. Was... someone with you?"
Mr. Çubiry, smiling: "But my good host, did you not know? I have been having visits and have been visiting nightly for almost eight months now, even before my stay at your establishment. Yes, I had a visitor. A great connaisseur, one sent by my tutor, came to inspire me with marvelous ideas. Ideas which will most certainly prove to improve my performance quite a bit. You look suprised. Has the parlor maid not told you?"
Me: "You do realize that all bedrooms are locked tight each night, do you?"
Mr. Çubiry: "Do you expect to trap a starling with a circle of salt? What are such means to one who has danced 'Offrande à liberté' and reaches ever higher? My good man, you see the stage, observe the dancers, hear the music and interpret the story that is told. But do see all that is and makes the performance? Have you seen the expression of the director's face as the dancer graciously recovers from the slightest misstep? Have you heard the vibration of the E-string of the violinist as he adjusts his poise? Have you tasted the tear falling from the cheek of the damsel sitting in front of you at the falling of the curtains? I doubt you have, for you do not see that you are as much part of the ballet as are those beyond and on the stage. That is why it is you who are bound to this place and not I."

The Çubiry dynasty has it's origins as a house of counts in Northern Basque Country. The First French Revolution fell hard on the Çubirys however, leaving them with no county to govern as french nobility fell from it's pedestal. Ever since, the Çubirys have been part of the French bourgeoisie, having a decent capital and succesful enterpreneurship to sustain it. This is the milieu Igon grew up in.

Igon was born in 1804. At a young age, Igon showed a knack for music and a great talent for dancing to go with it. Often, he would start humming and swaying to the music and slowly extend it to a series of jumps, pirouettes etcetera, showing an uncanny balance. At times, he would thank for the dance as if he had a dancepartner or bow for an inaudible audience. At those times, people dismissed such behavior as an act, mere fantasies of a child aspiring to become a ballet dancer.

After his tenth birthday, Igon joined the Académie Impériale de Musique and transferred eight years later to the École de Danse de l’Opéra de Paris, thereby moving to Paris. He graduated two years later, almost naturally joining the ballet company Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris. Two years later, the company's patron introduced a new ballet piece called 'Rêve du Roi en Deuil', starring Igon as the lead dancer. It was after a few months of practice that the patron wrote a disturbing report to the Çubirys about their son's weird behaviour. Though his dancing improved greatly, to a point where people would almost regard his movement as physically impossible, Igon seemed to get 'blended into the ballet'. It started with his nights' rest becoming increasingly uneasy, talking in his sleep and occasional sleepwalking. After a while, he started behaving strange while awake as well: he had incomprehensible discussions with noone in the room and conversations with other cast members would turn awkward when Igon spoke from the perspective of the ballet piece or showed knowledge of personal facts of the other. Igon's parents replied, telling the patron this behaviour was similar, but worse than that in his childhood. Their advice was to take him off the ballet piece, but to have him keep practicing daily on a strict schedule. The response came to late however, as by that time Igon refused to perform, saying he was 'unable to dance solely for esthetic reasons anymore'.

Magic
The first step towards practicing magic is the realization that there is vastly more than meets the eye. The universe is much like a play in a theater. The mortal world is a stage, where the sleeper sees only what is in the spotlights and does as he thinks is reasonable. But the Awakened does more through acting and performing, influencing the audience and making use of the resources available to him: the orchestra, the lights, the curtain, even all that's backstage and to some extent the audience. To perform magic is to be in harmony with the cast and crew; not only through bargains and common interests, but also through knowing the roles and switching yours when needed.

The Spheres
Correspondence
Correspondence is the art of using all space available to you and the knowledge that you can reach everywhere. Moving is ways the audience deems impossible is made very possible through help from a flyman. As such, bargaining with spirits of dimension make such displays available to a practicioner of magic. However, sometimes all it takes is knowing how to manipulate space, just as a performer might know how to operate a trapdoor on stage to make himself disappear.

Igon is a talented ballet dancer which always had been a little out of touch with reality. It was not until his awakening that this became a serious problem as he started seeing and talking to things that weren't there. His background in ballet makes him spoiled and socially inept, though he has an unearthly beauty about him.

I'm thinking of going for Correspondence, Mind and Spirit as the main spheres. I wonder whether I need Prime for Spirit. A rote like Body of Light sounds pretty much necessaru as does the Prime rote that allows you to transfer Quintessence to a spririt as a reward. At least two players already got the sphere covered. Does my character need it?

It largely depends on what you're trying to do. Spirits are not "dump", they will not always do you favors for just some quintessence; they might expect more in payment.
