River shrugs. "I suppose I should go. A medic is a traditional member of a good 'away team'. And if there ARE survivors, I can negotiate our fee." Helping those in need is fine. But we're in need too. Of credits.
Hmm.

Ironfist stays quiet.  He's useful if he goes, and useful if he stays.

"That would be me, wouldn't it." Benedict sighs. "Alright, I can keep the engines hot while you three go in and investigate. I'll take her in slowly to give you time to suit up."

"Alright. I want all information we can get as we bring her in." Eclipse was a small colossus, with appropriate sweetness and monstrosity. The few ships that came to Tilmfork decades and centuries ago were female, too, Noa had been told, except two.

"With pleasure. Now, everyone out of my cockpit." He glances at Noa, and adds, as an afterthought, "Captain."

Benedict begins the process of taking the ship closer, scanning the freighter carefully as he goes.

"You heard the man!" Noa shouted, almost cheering. She threw on a helmet and let her grin take over. For all her caution, she was excited.

"Well, what are you waiting for?" She cocked her head and fell back, jogging toward Equipment to get into full gear, gun conspicuously at the ready. "If we have company, I call the first shot!" she said from well down the hall.

River looked at Ironfist. "Hopefully she doesn't break too much this time..." before following after Noa and gearing up. As always, she was glad to have someone else be the one to charge in ahead of her.
Hmm.

Ironfist just sighs and shakes his head, then follows behind River.

Noa had thrown on her gear well before the others even made it down the hall. She passed them briefly on the way to the hatch.

"Anyone want to take bets?" she said.

Benedict flips the intercom switch. "We're coming up on the ship. Want me to try pinging the docking computer, or are you spacewalking?"

"I doubt they haven't noticed us by now if they're still in there. Do what you can." Noa said, pressing the button on the wall. "Keep them busy if we're not talking to friendlies, assuming anyone can hear us at all. Lie about how many of us there are if you have to, but make it sound believable. If there's anyone on board that shouldn't be, we'll need as much of a distraction as you can give us. Tell them you're the Captain if that helps."

She paused for a moment, considering. "If the crew needs help-- if they've been attacked-- tell them we will not let them down. They will be safe." She needed a little bit of optimism.

"Copy that. I'll request docking clearance." Benedict runs a hand through his hair, turns a few possibilities over in his mind--backwater farm boy? half-drunk space pirate?--then opens a comm channel.

"Freighter Jamais-Nu, this is the Eclipse, requesting permission to dock. We were in the neighborhood and figured you could do with some spare supplies," he says, layering a lazy drawl over the words.

Benedict gets no reply from the freighter. He knows that the Eclipse's auto-dock system will be sufficient for the group's needs, and can get the lock-on pretty easily.

That can't be good. Benedict keeps the concern out of his voice, keying up the auto-dock and continuing to talk. "Repeat, this is the Eclipse, requesting docking permission. We caught your distress beacon, what's your status, over?"

Switching channels to the intercom, he says, in a deceptively light tone of voice, "Looks like they're all out for a cup of what passes for coffee out here. I've got a lock, so we should be shaking hands in...ten seconds."

River waits for the ship to dock, as she prepares herself to assess any damage to the crew as well as the amount of their service fee.
Hmm.

Makeup. It wasn't foreign to Tilmfork, but it wasn't too common, or so sophisticated as what Noa found elsewhere. Someday, she figured, it could make for a quick disguise. Today, it was a different kind of safety precaution.

"Six," she counted in her head, flipping out a makeup mirror, and falling back to the side of the hatch. "Four," she said, adjusting where she held it, getting enough of a view of the way forward with as little of the mirror to show around the corner. At two she was ready.

Noa sees nothing dangerous around the corner. It seems like a normal, clean hatch, with a normal, moderately clean room on the other side. No one is there, and nothing seems particularly out of place.

Noa rolled out from the corner and hustled into the room, keeping an eye on the exits.

"First room appears to be clear, Benedict. If anything goes wrong, hopefully these check-ins will give you an idea of where or even what we're dealing with."
