"What are you talking about, Saul?" Milo pipes up, "I don't remember any stabbing? Did it happen after the crash?"

Saul rolls his eyes where the beast can't see and says "Yes, you were out to lunch when the stabbing happened, I think. So you didn't see the guy stab him." He makes eye motions towards the displacer beast that Milo can see as he says "stab him".

Darius takes the chance offered by the beast being distracted by questions to tap into his inner heritage, bursting over to the creature with superhuman speed. His mindblade gripped firmly in both hands as he thrusts for where he's sure the creature must be standing.

Milo, emboldened by the blur that is Darius, draws his sword and swings two handed at the tentacled cat-thing!

"Grandfather Rat! And I asked to avoid starting a fight..."

With that, Makala fires an arrow at the displacer beast.

Saul says "Here we go..." and takes a step back, quickly pulls a flask from his belt, and tosses it at the strange beast.

Swining from limb to limb using his hands and feet equally, his long toes gripping the bark almost as well as his hands, Dakekk reached the hightest branches of the tree and looked out. Seeing nothing new, he quickly dropped from limb to limb back to the lower branches of the trees. Turning towards the scuffle, he moves towards it.

Seeing that combat has been joined, Lazaro quickly casts a spell upon the beast.

Dakekk strikes at the beast, using a conjured blade of icy shadows to distract it.

At Saul's well-disguised signal, the battle is joined.  Darius swings hard, surprising both the Displacer Beast with the attack, and himself, when the creature is not where it appeared to be and his sure swing hits nothing but air.  Dakekk, moving right in on Darius' heels, tries to hit what should be the same, wounded, spot, with the unfortunate result of also swinging through the image, rather than the beast.  Saul takes a quick step backward so he can stand shoulder to shoulder with Makala and throws a flask, taking care to aim off-center from where his companions had struck; the flask shatters against the beast's hide, causing it to howl in pain.  Milo, on the far side of the Displacer Beast, swings hard, trying to account for the misses of his companions to gauge where illusion ends and creature begins, but overcompensates and strikes nothing solid.  Makala's shot becomes a casualty of the chaos, flying in front of the surprised Displacer Beast's nostrils.  Lazaro intones words of power, though the rapid movements and noise of the new fight make the results difficult to judge (Will Save: 18).

End of Surprise Round.

Saul curses after seeing that he's the only one who has actually managed to hurt the thing, pulls another flask and throws it, and moves away from the monster and behind a tree.

Quickly mastering his surprise, Darius takes a more measured swing, trying to figure out where the foe is really located.

Dakekk moves, trying to adjust his strikes to hit the beast. With a flourish of his blade and a bit of concentration, he focuses his strikes, trying to take advantage of a moment the beast lost track of his assault.

Seeing that his spell did not seem to have much of an effect Lazaro draws his bow, nocks and arrow, and fires it at where he believes the creature is truly standing.

Milo, determined to hit this tricksy thing, grips his sword with both hands and slashes at what he's pretty sure is the beast's side.
