The Small Rant Thread 4.0

To start this one off, I've managed not to stub my still-recovering toe at all (a miracle in and of itself), but I've nearly run out of gauze and medical tape for it.

And I still don't have any income.

Look on the bright side, at least you're meeting women.

On my side? Decent "women" are a rare breed. I've got all style and no substance, or some substance and no style, or occasionally some substance and some style in an underage package I can't touch with a ten-foot-pole.

I never said they were decent.  If they were decent they wouldn't be dropping out of my life. :p

They're just clearing space for better ones to come along.

I have to get at least a 94 (I think) on my final in Linear Algebra to get a B- in the course.

I got a 54 on the last test, and a 51 on the test before.

I have to get at least an 80 to pass the course, pretty much.

This really sucks, and is an indication that taking a 300-level course in the first semester of Freshman year is a bad idea.

I have 6 days to study, though! During which time I also have a final project for Computer Science. Shit.

Ouch ... I was on the other end of things with Freshman Physics.
I was taking it time # 4 , when the T.A. took me aside and said:
"This class has a very big curve."  I got a B-minus.

Root canal and crown: total cost? $2600, because the pain of the procedure itself wasn't sufficient.

Root canals are a waste of money, it's better just to pull the tooth and likely get a partial.

Just got to India yesterday *sigh* (Me and my parents went for my cousin's wedding). I really don't like it here (WARNING: horribly whiny list ahead).

The place we're staying in has no bathtub in the bathroom and  bugs are constantly getting in. It's also sort of dirty (actually that applies to the general area were staying in too). Even though it's December the heat is just as bad as I remember it being the last time I was here (though everything else isn't as bad, I suspect it's because I knew what to expect this time around). I hate having to eat with my hands since I'm horrible at it. Most people here speak either broken English or none at all (not that it really matters since me and my relatives have nothing in common). All of this on top of the fact that I'm behind on my work and could've finished it up if I wasn't here in India. The nice things here are the animals my relatives keep and a sporadic internet connection (which just reminds me that I could be having better internet at home!).

All of this is really small potatoes though. I can take having a bad vacation. The absolute worst part of being here is that I'm ruining things for everyone else  :(.  Instead of talking to my (extremely nice and generous) relatives I stay stuck in my room until the internet goes out (at which point I walk around like a zombie). I just feel no connection to any of them since I see them once every two years (if that). There's nothing to talk about and the act of talking to them itself is painful. I feel like an entitled jerk.  Not to mention my dislike of India shows (though I try my best to mask it) and everyone can feel it. My dad reacts by getting depressed and my mom reacts by yelling and nagging at me. I think my relatives are too polite to comment.

Does anyone have any suggestions for cool things to do or places to go?  If I can get genuinely interested going somewhere or doing something this vacation would be a lot less painful for everyone.  Also, does anyone have any tips for talking to people who have nothing in common with you and who either don't know your language or only know a little?

God I feel whiny right now. How many people would love to come to India on a vacation?

EDIT: I also like the fifth one.
Please, call me Count :).

My brother is having some issues right now.

So my mom and I are going to be visiting him for Christmas!

So, this is my Christmas schedule:

1. Get home! Stay there for maybe a night!
2. Drive up to Maine to visit for a bit!
3. Drive back down to home! Spend a few days there!
4. Hop on a plane to Germany! My first solo plane ride.
5. Spend about a week with my grandmother, aunt, and father; I haven't seen my grandmother or aunt for about 4-5 years, and my grandmother at the very least is very manners conscious.
6. Fly back! Go back to college!

As you can tell, I'm just going to be hopping all over the place.

I hope I don't have a bad seatmate for the 7+ flight to Germany...

<snip>

Peace Corps pre-game.

Sit down with the youngest and have them show
you the games they play.  Then try to get good at
them while still intentionally losing.
Don't worry about work.  I doubt your bosses have
the stones (!) to go so far away on vacation, let
alone a working vay-kay.  You could say:
The goat ate my work, except it's not really a goat.
Practice saying it with a straight face.
(yes I know you're on the interwebs, "goats" eat wires)

Nope. And I hope I don't have a film crew following me.

Of course, when I heard Carl, I though of this.
