Always Accepting Players
« on: August 20, 2014, 10:41:13 AM »
I just want to put this out there -- [D&D 3.5] Everything Trying To Kill You -- is always accepting new players. It is fast-paced and super-deadly.

There is currently no upper limit on the number of players who may join.

The title should say it all, really. ETTKY is not for the faint of heart. All new PCs start at 1st level BUT advance by spending GP. There are no tedious backgrounds or character introductions. We throw you in the pool and see if you sink or swim.

This is like the Dark Souls or Dwarf Fortress of D&D games.

You will probably die but losing is fun!

If it was Dwarf Fortress it would be nigh incomprehensible and full of uncontrollable suicidal midgets. :P

Dwarf Fortress is comprehensible, it just has a ludicrously high barrier to entry. This from a veteran of a dozen-plus fortresses. Some have even survived a few years! ;)

As for the uncontrollable suicidal midgets...

That's why I said nigh incomprehensible. :p

Campaign is, in essence, a hexcrawl. I'm running a tabletop group kind of in parallel to the forum game.

Places discovered in one game are added to the other, and vice versa.

Death toll is currently 3 PCs and 3 NPCs across 3 sessions.

...Apparently people aren't aware of -- or haven't had the opportunity to use -- the building/construction rules found in the PF Ultimate Campaign.

Appropriate PF srd link...

Now, while I'd rather basically never discuss Pathfinder... ever... this subsystem seemed to me at once both imaginative and sane, of all things. It does seem unnecessarily complicated however, which is pretty much the norm for Pathfinder Paizo.

I've been working on a streamlined version, which I thought I'd pitch to my players... I don't know if this interests anyone.

*All D&D.

Ever looked at old rules?

I have copies of 2e/3e/4e PHB mingling on my shelf. I'd have a 1e PHB on the shelf too, but I have to settle for a PDF. (I have DMG and Deities & Demigods though.)

After 3e, nothing really seems complicated anymore.

You're welcome to pop in and add a character build to the thread.

The party's currently in the outpost of "Brook's Hunt," and you're welcome to jump in pretty much whenever.

Bear in mind, you'll have to acquire the capital necessary to begin building -- which may involve dying a few times and willing treasure to your heirs, etc.

Oh, and everything's trying to kill you. :devil

Now to just somehow find some time to set aside to actually think about how I didn't even think of pulling this off...... :lmao

I've been examining the PHB2 Affiliation system since it was released, and I think I had an epiphany this morning. (Long time in coming?) Plus I think I realized why no one hardly ever uses it. I don't know if it's a coincidence that I'm studying to be an accountant -- but Affiliations function in a manner remarkably similar to a small business...
