I would be willing to co-dm as long as I'm not responsible for plot development. I can handle subplot, but I'm not good at overarching story lines.

Are there any neat tricks I can do with a psicrysmal? It explicitly gains HD, and therefore has feats and its own skills separate from mine.

My thought was that it might make a good scout/sentry, or grant it stances/binds that provide me a passive benefit. On the other hand, it can't use my ranks in UPD, so no dorje use.

Too lazy to reformat into plaintext again, the updated build is here: http://www.biotaur.com/unnamed-soul-manifester/

So at 8th I can expend my focus on Midnight Augmentation and then regain it as a move action. Next level I gain Psycarnum Infusion, which also requires me to expend my focus. So I guess my choice will be: gain free power points to manifest cheaply, or reduce augmentation cost for big augments.

I suppose I could also do both, every other round: psycarnum infusion/azure talent (non-action?) -> refocus (move) -> midnight augmentation/manifest (standard)

Looks like I should research Hustle.

Any thoughts on Incarnate2/Psion3 vs Incarnate1/Psion5 as entry methods?

EDIT: Also, I could stay Azurin and squeeze Psionic Meditation in somewhere.

Awesome, I'll definitely be utilizing that trick. I may even move Psycarnum Infusion up because of that.

My impression of Azure Talent + Psycarnum Infusion was that it only worked once/day because they are not "bonus" power points. I had planned on using this to fill cognizance crystals.

The original build actually was Kalashtar. I switched to Azurin because I needed a bonus feat, but I don't really remember why now. Since I don't particularly need Improved Initiative, I may switch back. Thanks.

I originally had Open Chakra on my power list, but I don't really see the use for it. Base manifestation opens chakras I already have. By the time I can augment it, I'll already have those chakras too. No one else in the party will have incarnum, so I don't really see the use. Am I overlooking something?

Dominate is certainly an option, but I'd have to get it through Expanded Knowledge. Research is still undergoing talks: the rough agreement at the moment is that powers cost 1000gp/power level (in place of XP) to research, but you can only research one per character level. Either way, it would definitely come late.

We tend to avoid cheese as a gentleman's agreement.

I could go incarnate1/psion5/sm2 instead. That gains me one psion level, but loses me 2 incarnate levels. I have mixed feelings on this: it would give me 4th level powers at the start of play, but I would lose a lot of utility from incarnate.

I'm building a soul manifester for a campaign slated to start in January. The campaign is a premade (Nightfang Spire) being run by a newbie DM. She's run a few one shots before, but his is her first full length campaign. I will be covering the arcanist role together with a warlock. Other party members include a druid, cleric (was going archer, but now looking into radiant servant/knight of the raven), and tashalatora monk.

The campaign starts at level 8 and is expected to run until 12, but may arc from there if things go well. All officially published material is allowed, including web enhancements, plus Hyperconcious and stuff from Dreamscarred Press. A note on house rules: we don't generally allow alterself/polymorph/metamorphosis, that's why you don't see it here.

I have the majority of the build done, I'm just having a bit of trouble polishing it off. As awesome as Inertial Armor is, I plan on just using armor/shield since I have proficiency through Incarnate. I've considered Boost Construct, but I will probably leave that to the tashalatora, since her plan is to summon a construct and flank with it. I'm also considering dumping Improved Essentia Capacity in favor of Expanded Soulmeld Capacity. I've also looked into Extend Power, Burrowing Power, and Linked Power, but I don't have any specific combos in mind. Note that for Linked Power, the power still takes its full manifestation time/cost.

Overall, I'm really looking forward to playing this character. I just feel that it needs a little bit of tweaking to make it whole.

Thoughts? Criticisms? What can I do to bring this build together?

Anyone that gets split from FFA will almost certainly have to redo all of their equipment, since I basically outfitted the whole group.

I'm playing Drax ("Butterfingers") in FFA. I'd like to keep him going since it's the first time I've played an artificer. This is also the first high-op campaign I've been in, since my local group tends toward mid-op.

Just as a reminder, I am willing to help out with this. If sirp or one of the stand-in DMs has specific things for me do, just send me a PM.

We all have emails registered here. If there could be an option of sending a "Miss you" email, the missing player will know his postings are really needed. If he/she still doesn't show up to at least say that RL is crushing his/her skull in, say, one week, you can give him/her a warning of some sort (email too). And, if it still doesn't bring him/her back, then add a -1 to their Respect. With a negative Respect, any GM that receives this person's aplication to a campaign would know that that guy/girl isn't that good to have in the group.

Sending a "Miss you" email is a good idea, though I'm not sure how different that is from a PM. But as others have noted, it would be a lot easier/simpler to just act on their behalf, or even skip them outright.

...due to baby+3yo+workload for last year of PhD thesis...
I'm on the last year of my PhD as well; I can't even imagine the responsibility of two children on top of it all.

I would love to help out, but I've barely played in any PbP due to game stall, let alone actually DM'd one.

Still, I'm willing to help with other aspects. Perhaps I could maintain battle maps? Or something of a similar nature?

(Sorry to revive my own thread, but I think it makes more sense than starting a new one.)

I never did come to a clear interpretation of this mechanic. However, as I am thinking about creating a Society Mind for an upcoming game, it is once again relevant.

From the SRD:
Quote
A psionic character can attempt to manifest a power from a source other than his own knowledge (usually a power stone or another willing psionic character). To do so, the character must first make contact (a process similar to addressing a power stone, requiring a Psicraft check against a DC of 15 + the highest level power in the power stone or repertoire). A psionic character can make contact with only a willing psionic character or creature (unconscious creatures are considered willing, but not psionic characters under the effects of other immobilizing conditions). Characters who can’t use power stones for any reason are also banned from attempting to manifest powers from the knowledge of other psionic characters. Mental contact requires 1 full round of physical contact, which can provoke attacks of opportunity. Once contact is achieved, the character becomes aware of all the powers stored in the power stone or all the powers the other character knows up to the highest level of power the contactor knows himself.

From the Society Mind telepathy class feature:
Quote
Psionic creatures who are willing members in a society mind’s worldthought network (including the society mind himself) may manifest unknown powers from powers known by another willing psionic creature in the network as if they were making physical contact (see the Expanded Psionics Handbook).

---

I believe the intended mechanic is that a persistent connection through the worldthought network obviates the need to "establish a connection." Thus you are always treated as having physical contact, but more importantly an "active connection" is always present, so you can manifest at will. However, the class feature reads "as if they were making physical contact," which is the equivalent of simply keeping a power stone in one hand.

I would love to hear some other thoughts on this topic.

On my previous turn I said I was using "Inflict Critical Damage" when in fact I used "Inflict Moderate Damage". The attack and damage rolls were correct, however.

I was itching to use my monstrous-humanoid-bane crossbow this turn, but I just didn't have the shot. At the moment my standard action is unused, if anyone has any suggestions.

Startled by the skeletel stone, Drax quickly turns to size up the figure and gently taps its knee with a critical resonance. Then he steps aside to let the the more brawny of the group through.
