Eric facepalms. He looks to Robert:

"I was out earlier and just got here. Do we know where Jones is?"

The COnstable wih the Indians pipes up: "A lot of people would like to know that.  We haven't seen him or Constable Dresden since their arrival back."

The Natives look somewhat crestfallen at that and turn their attentions to you.

"You are acquaintances of Jones?"

Eric scratches his head. "Off the top of my head, no. Robert, do you know where he is? I was busy helping with the walls and looking into other things."

Robert shakes his head. "I've been trying to solve the gunpowder shortage...I haven't seen him since we returned."

Jimmy moves in, deciding it would be best to rejoin the group and find out what the hell is going on.

Jimmy suddenly arrives as the petty bureaucrats turn up their nose at his appearance.

Councilman Bryan reappears "Would everyone involved with this please come into my office?"

As you all enter he closes and locks the door, listening at it for a moment.

"All right, with all due haste, please explain to me what's going on, starting with you." (points at robert)

Robert leans against the wall, arms folded. "I've not been back in town too long, but I was here because I was hoping to find out why my employer was being harassed and bullied into signing a government contract without the benefit of due legal council. After a marvelously unhelpful afternoon spent talking quite a bit to learn absolutely nothing, an elderly man who looked like he should be dead of consumption tried to throttle me. It took enough injury to kill three men to bring him down, and now the corpse is missing. I can't imagine that answers more questions than it raises."

"His corpse is missing because it's ... appearance would be raising too many questions among an already terrified public.  Who is  your employer, perhaps I can shed some light on his problems?"

"The gunmaker?  I've no knowledge of any plans involving him but I can find out something."

He calls in an aide of some sort and whispers to him and sends him away.

"We should have something in a few moments.  Now then you two (points at robby and nans PC's), what are you doing here?""

"I work for the Boss, and I work with Jones." Jimmy replies fairly curtly.

It is immediately obvious that a) that was the wrong answer
and b) this is a man used to paranoia.

It's almost like a cloud passes over his face.

"You work with one of our men, and for an unknown persons or organization you know nothing of.  Not even so much has the name.  You would seem to be fairly trusting."

Jimmy shrugs, unconcerned. "Jones knows his name if you want names.  I don't know your name and I'm talking to you."

"I haven't met his boss, if that's what you're talking about. He and I are on a first-name basis, otherwise.

As for why I'm here, I traveled here from the south shortly before the recent events. Since I've been here, I've been trying to help coordinate the efforts on building the walls and have tried to run down the myriad of rumors I hear from the builders. Most of them turn out to be frightened exaggerations or the ravings of madmen."

"So Jones recruited all of you to some extent?"
