Setras Ra was once a thriving city, the bustling centre of the Arhosan Empire and a jewel from which the Llethu ruled their mighty land. But as the locus of power for the entire empire, it had suffered gravely in the fighting and rebellions that led the empire from health to sickness and eventually unto death. Certain cities, however, are immune to the true wasting disease of time, and so as people lost the impetus to fight and it became clear that Arhosa was no longer an empire, but rather several score individual kingdoms, Setras Ra changed from being a political battleground into a trading hub, still situated as it had always been on the confluence of three major rivers, each flowing through one borough or another.

With the return of trade came the return of wealth, as merchants, factotums, and other assorted seekers after gold came flooding into the city, all seeking to make their way in the world upon the backs of others. The rulers of the city, still the Llethu giants, found that a modicum of taxation and a good deal of looking the other way made for a suitable source of funds to rebuild the formerly lovely architecture of Setras Ra, and while it does not now sparkle with the glory of its past times, it still remains the largest and most prominent city in all of the former Arhosan Empire. Which certainly explains why people were drawn to its presence.

The first of these was Kat, a young girl who had been raised by her family amongst the animals of the palace zoo, a traditional place they had held since before the collapse of the empire, and one that no one saw fit to take away from them, even at the height of the struggles. She was often found in the presence of Cantra, a supposedly wandering minstrel who had in fact never left the boundaries of Setras Ra, and was instead excellent at picking up stories from those who had, and passing them off as her own. And as of late they had found themselves in the company of Mevra and Kimbal, two young mercenaries who had recently arrived within the city limits. Kimbal was a pleasant young fellow, if not supremely skilled in the art of conversation, while Mevra was the dark and somewhat dreary friend whose company they nevertheless enjoyed.

So it was hardly unusual to see the four of them walking (or in Mevra's case, slightly hovering) around the market, in search of a pretty bauble or two that could be had for cheap, either for themselves or one of the more exotic creatures in the zoo. Which was exactly where they were when a passerby, cloak held tight with one hand, stumbled into the midst of their group, coughed up blood upon Kat, and fell to the ground, gold coins spinning from underneath his cloak as he expired. Instantly, the mood in the market changed, all eyes (and ears) noticing the spill of such rich lucre, and the dead body at the feet of the four friends. Cries of "Thieves!" and "Murderers!" immediately began to rain down upon them, and guards could be seen through the crowds, fighting their way towards the commotion. It was time to act, and quickly.

Kat's eyes widen as she takes a step back and lets out a scream.

She quickly looks around, looking for anyone suspicious.

Unsure of how to respond to this, Kimbal looks to Kat and Cantra to see what they will do since they are locals.  He glances distrustfully at the guards and looks ready to run but he isn't sure how much of a fair hearing they'll get here in Setras Ra.

"I've had a few bad run-ins with the guards around here. They're always asking for favours to let you out of gaol, and that's just for minor offenses. I'd rather not have to go through that again. So, who wants to run?" Cantra looked rather worried, fingers spinning a coin between them with nervous haste.

"Cloaked figures. One with a bag. I'm pursuing." Kat says, before running off towards the figures.
Hmm.

Mevra reaches out to catch Kat by the shoulder. "I can have Mul-Morgen follow them. Let's please not  get apprehended." Her face was hidden as it so often was by her hood, though it still clearly showed grim concern.

Kat nods, trusting her friend's advice. She looks for a crowded area and moves that way, hoping to get lost in the crowd in the same way as the the hooded figures.
Hmm.

The Hegni girl looks up to the rooftops of the market stalls where she typically had her spirit companion, Mul-Morgen, hovering in watch. She pointed toward where Kat had noted the two runners were headed, and gave a quick nod. She hoped Mul-Morgen would be able to see the two culprits, and pursue.

Pausing momentarily as they take in the situation unfolding about them, the four friends then pick up their feet and flee like all the rest of the crowds have done, weaving through market stalls and around clutter on the ground, knocked over by people in their haste to escape. If anyone was looking to rob someone in the market, the stampede of people away from the murder would be the perfect cover in which to do so, as even some of the shopkeepers had fled on first instinct.

Their passage was free and clear until the end of the market square, where a small crowd had formed as people jammed themselves together, trying to exit onto the narrow streets that twisted and turned between the high buildings. Seeing her route forward blocked, Cantra glanced back to see if any of the guards had been able to keep up with the headlong rush across the grounds.

"There's two of them still chasing us! Bastards won't leave us alone!"

There were about five doors she could get to before the guards did, but she wasn't sure which one to choose. One looked like a warehouse, another two shops, a fourth an inn, and the last she couldn't tell what kind of building it was.

Mul-Morgen begins following the fleeing men, keeping track of them as best as she can while still trying to avoid being noticed by them.

Mevra, meanwhile, asked, "Where can we go? What do we do?"

"Simple, do we fight or do we flee?" Kimbal asks, hand on the hilt of his sword.

"In here. We can ambush them.  Knock them out cold and fast." Kat says as she darts into the warehouse.

While the spirit floats off in pursuit of the villains, the living friends find themselves diving through the doors of a large warehouse, the building being rather well stocked with various kinds of goods, sectioned off into little pens by walls and fences. The owner of the establishment must be renting space to the various shopkeepers in the square, letting them store extra goods here for the time being. Thus it was rather a maze, lots of little areas demarcated by various forms of blockage. What there did not appear to be, however, was a back door to continue their flight from the city guards.

Cantra was the first to notice their predicament, fleeing to the back as soon as she was through the gate. "Kat, you idiot! You've trapped us in here for the guards to get at. You better have some kind of sneaky way out of here, and fast. And don't look to me, spellsong doesn't deal well with burning holes in walls. At least not mine."

Kimbal looks around as well, he does not enjoy the thought of being trapped in here.
