[D&D 3.5] Interest Check: Gishes Galore
« on: November 17, 2011, 08:47:22 PM »
DISCLAIMER: I am not looking to DM this concept.  I'm just a player.

For a while now, I've thought about how a party of gishes - not ultra-optimized, CL 30+ at 20th level gishes, mind, but those who actually might be missing a few caster levels - would work.  They're consistently among the most popular concepts in board discussions around D&D fora, and have long been a personal favorite.

I'd like to see how such a group would work as a unit against normal-to-hard encounters, from somewhere in the ECL 2 - 4 range to (hopefully) up to the mid-teens.

Would this be of interest to others here?  Is there someone who'd be willing to DM it?  Thanks for reading.

If this gets somewhere, I call dibs on a Swiftblade!
I don't care if I'm the only one or if the entire party is Swiftblades, I want one!

I'd be primarily interested in a JPM, personally.

I'm aching for a binder; I hear they can gish fairly well. So let's see.
I'm here and ready to keep confusing the hell out of everyone I meet.

I'm too busy to do so myself, but I'd love if someone would test out a Ritual Warrior for me.

If homebrew's in, I'll go for it. Otherwise, something psionic, maybe?

Pray tell, who will DM?
I would like to try the Paladin/Sorcerer/Abjurant Champiion mix sometime!

I'd like to go for a more rogue-ish gish. Something like spellthief/wizard/unseen seer/maybe incantatrix if it's not too strong for the group.

This could be interesting, not sure what I'd play though.

This could be interresting.  I'd be interested in a bardic gish, or a psionic one using the Voce warrior in Hyperconscious. Killing through voice basically.
both should be dragonblooded, for a very obvious reason ...

"But, there is one they fear.
In their tongue, they call him Dovahkiin.
DRAGONBORN !"
"-Lady-Captain, we detect 20 hostile vessels against us,  and Erasmus Haarlock's Spear of Destiny ! What are your orders ?
-RAMMING SPEED !

final result : 6 slaughts vessels, 4 imperial frigates, 2 imperial cruisers destroyed. Haarlock sent into the warp. 0 losses. Flawless Victory.

Personally I have always been interested in what sort of divine gish you could pull off (decent BAB without needing to rely on spells) or even a dual casting gish.

Divine: Crusader/Cleric/Ruby Knight Vindicator I suppose, more emphasis on the crusader. Could use another divine class (shudenja?)
Dual: something with fochlucan lyrist...
Bard 1/Druid 4/Green Whisperer 3/Spelldancer 2/Fochlucan Lyrist 10?
Bard 7/Master Thrower 2/Druid 1/Sublime Chord 2/Fochlucan Lyrist 8

The problem that is going to come up is how difficult it is to make a gish at ECL 2-4, most need their PRCs to be any good. You don't usually see effective Gish characters till level 10 or so.

Possibly also a monk-gish
Wizard 3/Monk 2/Enlightened fist 9/Abjurant Champion 5/Dragon Slayer 1
Problem is you only get to caster level 16 by the end, not what I really aim for from a gish.

No no, stop tempting me into more games.  This certainly would be a wild ride of a game.

Another 'gish' idea I've been toying with is monk/ardent/imithid slayer or sanctified mind, using Ardent's weird method of determining powers known to stay at max level powers.

I'd be interested in something like this!
"All the pride and pleasure of the world, mirrored in the dull consciousness of a fool, are poor indeed compared with the imagination of Cervantes writing his Don Quixote in a miserable prison" - Schopenhauer, Aphorisms: The Wisdom of Life

This is of course the issue with making concepts you arent willing to DM yourself.

I could do some sort of arena but I don't really have the time these days to run a proper campaign.
