[Classes] Prophet (new NPC class)

Prophet
(Ravenloft 3.0 DMG p.187ff)

Prophets are an NPC class like those found in the 1st party DMG. They are not recommended for player characters, as they would make for woefully underpowered and inadequate characters.

Prophets don't train to become prophets, they are born with an innate ability not dissimilar to that of sorcerers. They could be anything from the old crone offering disturbing insights mixed with her dementia-addled babbling, over the village fool being very right twice a day, to a disturbingly precocious little girl seeing dead people walking around.

Hit Die: d4
Skill Points: 4 + Int modifier
Class Skills: Bluff (Cha), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Decipher Script (Int), Gather Information (Cha), Knowledge (any including Ravenloft, Int), Perform (Cha), Profession (Wis), Spellcraft (Int), Use Magic Device (Cha)
Starting Money: 2d4x10gp
Starting Age: As sorcerer

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: Prophets are proficient with all simple weapons. They are not proficient with any type of armor or shield.

Spells:  A prophet casts divine spells which are drawn from its own spell list. She can cast any spell she knows without preparing it ahead of time, the way a wizard or a cleric must.

To learn or cast a spell, a prophet must have a Charisma score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a prophet’s spell is 10 + the spell level + the prophet’s Charisma modifier.

Like other spellcasters, a prophet can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. Her base daily spell allotment is given on Table: The Prophet. In addition, she receives bonus spells per day if she has a high Charisma score.

A prophet’s selection of spells is extremely limited. A prophet begins play knowing four 0-level spells and two 1st-level spells of your choice. At each new prophet level, she gains one or more new spells, as indicated on Table: Prophet Spells Known. (Unlike spells per day, the number of spells a prophet knows is not affected by her Charisma score; the numbers on Table: Prophet Spells Known are fixed.) These new spells can be common spells chosen from the prophet spell list, or they can be unusual spells that the prophet has gained some understanding of by study. The prophet can’t use this method of spell acquisition to learn spells at a faster rate, however.

Upon reaching 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th level, a prophet can choose to learn a new spell in place of one she already knows. In effect, the prophet "loses" the old spell in exchange for the new one. The new spell’s level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged. A prophet may swap only a single spell at any given level, and must choose whether or not to swap the spell at the same time that she gains new spells known for the level.

Unlike a wizard or a cleric, a prophet need not prepare her spells in advance. she can cast any spell he knows at any time, assuming she has not yet used up her spells per day for that spell level. She does not have to decide ahead of time which spells she’ll cast.

Mark of Fate: All prophets are touched by the Dark Powers in some way. All Prophets begin play with a curse chosen from those available to Pathfinder Oracles. As usual, they grant you extra features on 5th, 10th and 15th level.
When your curse grants you extra spells known, assume that they are of the highest spell level you have available at that level.

Prediction: Once per day, starting on 3rd level, the prophet may make a prediction about an event in the future. The prediction may be as vague as "You shall encounter an enemy on the road." Alternatively, the prediction may be very specific and clear: "When the moon rises in the east, the lost heir of the Ionescu family will return to you by horse in the town of Vallaki." The prediction's nature, accuracy and specifics are left entirely up to the DM's discretion. The ability is meant to be used as a tool for the DM to add atmosphere or plot to the campaign.

Advanced Learning: At 5th level, you can add a new spell to your list, representing the result of personal study and experimentation. The spell must be a spell of the divination school of any class or cleric domain and of a level no higher than that of the highest-level spell you already know. Once a new spell is selected, it is forever added to your spell list and can be cast just like any other spell on your list.

You gain another new spell at 9th, 13th, and 17th level.

The one thing I'll note here is that some of the curses are entirely out of place in Ravenloft (or feel that way to me). Are the DMs supposed to limit to what's really RL appropriate?

That's up to individual DMs. I haven't made a call beforehand, especially as the PF SRD might still be subject to change at any time as more open content curses get added.
